Pretty sure Munroe had mentioned it on the boards back then... just in case anyone's considering playing the "Wiki = BS" card.

Is anyone concerned that they still cannot decide on a final script?

Concerned only about the fact that this movie will likely come a lot later than I hoped it would. I'm sure there will be one eventually, though.

Better than just rushing into production on the first script that came down the pipe.

There's an awful lot of movies coming out in 2012 because the year is 2011.

TMNT will have to deal with a buttload of movies in 2013, because as 2012 rolls in, a lot more movies will start production.

It's not like we are going to have less movies in 2013...

But for now it's out of the way of the gigantic blockbusters that are trying to catch the same audience as TMNT.

If a person has to choose between Batman, Spider-man, Avengers, Superman or TMNT. 90% are not going to choose TMNT.

Summer is filled with blockbusters, especially comic book movies. I go to see more then one movie, in fact, I usually see all of them and in most cases, the theater is packed. People love big budget movies. If TMNT was being released in 2012, I think people would just be psyched over the kickass summer instead of moaning that they have to decide which movie not to see.

I think the main reason they have it slated for 2013 is because the script is being written, so giving the pre-production, filming process, post-production and marketing, the executives know that there is no way that the movie could be released in 2012.
I doubt that other summer blockbusters being released moved the date to another year.

Also, I doubt TMNT, even if it was released on the same day as Avengers would tank. All 4 TMNT movies thus far have grossed a lot in the box office.

But why not give it an extra advantage if you can?? I mean why release it against the Marvel juggernaut title when you could refine the story and wait one more year to release it??

I get what your saying, but I also know a lot of people now-a-days that pick and choose movies much more carefully because of the 10 dollar plus price tag to go so I think any advantage the film can get to get more people into the theater is smart.

Not saying that behind the scenes things are not what could hold the release up to 2013 but I also think a market already saturated with comic book films for a year is not as appealing as a summer where you are probably only going to have one or two since I can't recall the last time they did like Batman or Superman two years in a row??

But remember, Warner Bros are hoping for a Justice League movie in 2013 (though I doubt that will happen), so TMNT would probably already be battling two giants from Marvel and DC.

That being said, the marketers at Viacom are treading carefully and they are using time.
They are premiering the new comic books in 2011. A new cartoon in 2012. A movie in 2013. They are slowly adjusting the market for the new Turtles.
Also re-appearing in the same order when they were originally conceived: Comic (1984), Cartoon (1987) and Movie (1990) but at double speed cause it's Viacom.

Summer seasons are always full of big movies however, 2012 is especially crowded and with huge names that have already made tons of money and it was very easy for TMNT to get lost in the shuffle. I doubt 2013 will be as crowded as this year which also crowded and I can see TMNT doing good with the competition this year, so it'll be fine in 2013. Counting the movie isn't out until 2013 we still have plenty of time for a final script, hell MIIIB started shooting without a script.

You can watch more than one movie! And I think TMNT would probably have a bigger fanbase than say, The Avengers (and their members).

Yeah...I dunna. The Avengers have been around longer and they have some top tier Marvel heroes. As much as I love the Turtles, there are probably more people who dig the Avengers.

I'm not a fan but I can certainly say that there ought to be no "probably" in that statement. There ARE more fans. Has to be, I figure.

Yeah, Hulk definitely has more fans. Ironman has become very popular. I doubt Thor has more fans than TMNT, but the fact that he's a Marvel property and is tied into the "Marvel Cinematic Universe" or whatever gives him the boost. And Captain America looks like it's going to be a great flick.

The Avengers, and Marvel in general, have a huge fan base. They are known so far for putting out decent movies that are fun and family friendly. Sadly what is taking a lot of parents to the movie theates right now are children. A Marvel made movie is something they can both enjoy. With that said I think they are moving ahead with TMNT smartly.

Releasing the comic this year will get the older fans interested in TMNT again. Next year they will be hitting the younger crowd. So that way in 2013 there will be enough people knowing that these characters are back, or being introduced to them for the first time. I can wait as long as it means I get a decent movie out of the wait.

Iron Man alone has made more than all 4 Ninja Turtles movies combined. Liking them is fine, but take off the blinders.

And now the studio that financed Iron Man is financing Turtles.

Viacom are good business men.

Basing the possible success of a new movie by comparing Iron Man to the 90's New Line movies is like comparing the New Line movies to the 60's Iron Man cartoon...

Sure you can see more than one movie but in 2012 there are like 6 or 7 movies that most people in that demographic would choose over TMNT. Not everyone has the money to see every single movie in theaters.

That last statement is insanity. How can you honestly think that? I want to know.

He wasn't talking about the possible success of the new movie. He was talking about the fan base of the two franchises. Iron Man is just plain bigger than TMNT right now and it doesn't look like that's changing in 2012.

I disagree, people would choose TMNT over Superman and other of those examples, TMNT is a classic franchise, it might not have the iconic reach as other heroes like Spiderman but that does not equal guaranteed box office, you can bet Transformers 3 is going to do just fine with Captain America and X-Men. And Transformers is not as big as either of those franchises, yet the movie series is/can be more popular.
