At what point did anyone say Tristan was a bad writer as of colored masks? I specifically said that the change wouldn't affect the quality of the stories themselves. Y'all missed the point...

I think you guys are all in for a genuine shock and treat.

And I do genuinely appreciate the love you guys've shown. Like I said, it's been tough getting back into the swing of things, and I'd love to do more, but that's not my call at all. Tom's doing a pretty amazing job of things right now and I know there are some surprises in store over there as well.

Well in case I myself haven't been clear enough, I have no doubt in your abilities, Tristan. I'm sure all the turtle work you're doing will be as killer as in the past. Not like I'm placing rainbow blame on you either my dude. I'll of course read it without hesitation, but as I said before, I merely worry that it will be come permanent in time. And again, I'm aware that has nothing to do with your involvement.

It's fine for the cartoons, and even certain comics (like Archie, toon spinoff stuff) & films, but I hope this line stays "ours".

I like the colored bandanas for other series'. But I feel that the "darker" comics belong in red. Pretty sure I made that clear several times.
If the tone is light, go with colors. If it's a little more action oriented and gritty, go solid red.

It does seem odd that this horror crossover is the time they decide colored bandanas.

I know that no one has said that Tristan's story will suffer because of the multicolored bandanas, but a rather large deal is being made about it. Heck, maybe it's a temporary thing because the other members of the IDW universe fighting the "infestation" can't tell the turtles apart...I dunna...

And I bet that'll irk some people. The Turtles in a superhero team to stop Cthulhu.

Making their headbands multicolored permanently would just be another strike against this series for me. I'm already struggling to accept what I've read already. I haven't even gotten to the part where I like the book, even a little.

We haven't read the next couple of issues of the core series yet... the "Hey guys, now that Raph is back, wouldn't it be great if we all wore color-coded bandannas now?" scene may yet be coming just in time for Infestation 2.

If this happens, its possible enough backlash from fans would get them to revert back to red bandanas. Remember Kevin is still on board.

I have not read Infestation 1, sooo is it a crossover event or just "the same horrible thing happens in all comics we make"

if it is a crossover, I wouldn't mind the turtles using colored masks so the other mooks can tell them apart, making the colors they choose a "homage" to the toon. And later at the end of the event the turtles ditches the colors thinking "that was silly" or something like that

I do not think they would do such a silly ( sorry have to say that ) thing to change the color bandanas without any reason after they find Raph.
Even any logical reason ( if there is any ) is not inside my acceptance limit but if they will do it that way, i am really wondering how they shall do it.
I am reading the book now. And enjoying it. I am 100% sure that i do not like the new origin one bit. Maybe i am forcing myself to enjoy the book cause that there is a new TMNT on racks. And cause that the origin and some other things are different, you do not know what shall happen and this increases the enjoyment.
For me, so far the book was not bad, but it is not anywhere near to showing the fans what real TMNT is/was.
I am still believing that, this colored bandana stuff was born in the first place cause of lack of coordination between the teams at IDW ( which pains me ).
We all know Tristan's writing will be very good but i am one of the guys who really really hate colored bandanas. The point is. I do not hate the old toon,( ok sometimes i hate, but not that much ), i do not hate the 2000s toon.
I do not like what they do. Trying to merge two different things.
After all colored bandanas are not just visual stuff. They are symbols of the old toon. It is not important how mature the story is written. For me that color bandana stuff is as important as a comic being black & white or colored.
I am sure that there are lots of guys who are not thinking the same way, but that's me.

If that colored bandana thing will be only in Infestatation books i can live with that. But if spreads to main series , i am pretty sure that, this will change my look upon the book in a pretty large way. Negatively.


And people always complain about "event books" or such stuff twhich are made to increase the sales at Marvel & DC are generally ruining the quality of that book...
I am not saying this colored bandana thing shall decrease the quality of the book storywise or artwise but it is a bit of ironic that again an event book will be responsible of that color change, even at a smaller company.

Myself, I couldn't care less about the turtles' origins, or the color of their bandanas. Origin stories bore me, and red or rainbow, they're still turtles who are ninja to me. That's all insignificant.
I'm a really bad stickler about consistancy, whether or not they're going to stick with one thing or the other, and lately I've been working very hard on letting that go the best I can. This is just a comic book after all.
There's no reason we should be getting as upset about this as we are.

An origin is part of who a character is and so is their look. If Batman's parents were kidnapped by aliens instead of shot dead in an alley I think his purpose, life views, and choices would be a lot different. Also if he had a hot pink mask and cape instead of black I think that might play against him more then anything.

Those things do matter. In the interest of making things "new" and "edgey" people think they need to change **** that was perfectly fine before. Look at the new Moon Knight book for example. The writer just threw the established character and setting out the window and completely revamped his personality despite it taking place in the same continuity. Now he acts like Spider-man making constant wise cracks. They abandoned the split personality thing and his constant inner struggle with his urge to kill in favor of having Captain America, Wolverine, and Spider-man manifest as personalities instead. This not only makes no sense, goes completely against the established psychology, but it's clearly a half-assed way to draw sales to the book by having top tier characters in every issue.

Did these changes need to be made? No. The way he was before during the '06 run was perfect and the books sales were fine. Everytime since then when they've tried to revamp Moon Knight they've failed. Vengeance of the Moon Knight was another example of a chuckle head writer handling the character poorly except he made Moon Knight's costume and personality similar to Batman.

I've read a lot of turtles books, dare I say virtually all of them, and for the most part the turtles always feel like the turtles. Unless the book was a crossover being written by another writer or a parody. This new book hasn't felt like the turtles at all to me and slapping different colored masks on them isn't going to help with that. When I think of the comic turtles I think of red. That's just who they are. When I think of colored bandannas I think of silliness and despite the 2K3 series being a little more serious it never brushed the level the comics had.

Regardless of what you think of the colours, Mark's art is ****ing amazing. I just saw the first page and am blown away. A character I'm particularly attached to from the Mirage days looks fantastic!
