I prefer the "connected shell" look, since a turtle shell is supposed to be one piece. Like you said, it adds a sense of "realism".

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a franchise that reaches back decades spanning multimedia far and wide. Originating in print with the Mirage parody publication created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, to live action film and multiple television incarnations, being best known for their infamous CBS saturday morning cartoon which ran from 1988 to 1996. We are usually a music feature site here at Street Date, but we couldn’t pass up such a cool opportunity and exclusive scoop on the street date of the brand new version of the TMNT. The story of the terrapin brothers doused in a toxic ooze which transformed them into the fearsome foursome Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael. Trained by their master, Hamato Yoshi (AKA the humanoid rat “Splinter”) return to the sewers of New York boasting an all star lineup of voice actors including Jason Biggs (American Pie), Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings; Rudy) and even the original voice actor for Raphael, Rob Paulsen… now taking on the role of Donatello.

New fans can expect a completely new take on the story of the mutated terrapin with a contemporary setting which also includes MANY homages to their broad history to keep the life-long nostalgic ‘sewer-heads’ coming back as well. **SPOILER ALERT** – Although this is a complete reboot of the franchise, there will be plenty of throw-backs to supporting cast such as Leatherhead & The Rat King (confirmed) and even classic crossovers such as The Flaming Carrot (for those of us hardcore fans who grew up on the TMNT). This rebirth will prove to be a perfect heritage continuation to bring parents and their kids together on common action packed and comical ground.

Aimed at kids 4 and up , The style derives heavily from the increasing popularity of imported Japanese anime series while incorporating lots of American pop culture relevances much like the original did. Each of the turtles also has a very distinct personality and physiology: From Leonardos swift & lean leadership, to Donatello’s meek & scrawny geek-hood, Raphael’s bulky brutish force and last but not least Michelangelo – the playful runt of the family. Sidekick and direct line to the surface world April O’Neil comes back younger and smarter while training with the wise but very assertive Master Splinter. (yes, this time Splinter is also on the front line with the turtles in the fights.) We also have heard that the Shredder is more intimidating and terrifying than ever… the perfect ‘Darth Vader-esq’ Villain to lead the factions of Foot soldiers along side the invading alien horde, The Kraang. We had an invitation to go check out the Nickelodeon Toy Fair and you can tell from this exclusive sneak peek that were looking at a pretty awesome new take on the Heros in a Halfshell.

The Sewer Lair playset will cost approximately $99, with action figures hovering around the $8-9 range, and the deluxe, classics & vehicles nearing $15-20 except for The Shellraiser which costs a bit more but will be totally worth it as it’s a full playset in itself. The Shellraiser being a personal highlight for me at the event as its the new incarnation of the “Party Wagon/Turtle Van” … except this time around its a modified subway car…cool!!! Check the new toys out on toy store shelves in August of this year, with the new TV series premiering on Nickelodeon in the fall.

We spoke breifly with one of the creative directors and he told us some things to look forward to include: A new thrill ride at Universal Studios called “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shell Shock“, an accompanying iPad/iPhone mobile app & video game featuring the turtles and speculation for an all new feature film is looking good for 2014. It makes me giggle too LOL. I think Don's gap tooth looks kinda cute, like when a child has it too, but I don't really know if I like it, though. Does it make sense?

And for that last bit of information... I don't know what to think. Sometimes I think it's going to be awesome and sometimes not... I know we won't really know until is on TV, but still what do you really think?

I just realized Leo's sheaths are both on the same side. I love that look, very Mirage.

And I really hope they meant references to the Flaming Carrot (among other obscure stuff from the Mirage days) , and they don't actually put him in this show.

Wow. Awesome pics and info. I actually don't really mind the side sheaths for Leo. It actually makes sense for him to have them that way. So. Leatherhead and Rat King will be in it? Cool. Can't wait to see them. I don't really like them referring to Mikey as the runt of the family though. Yes, he may be the youngest, but he's not a runt.

Is that a little battle damage at the top of Raphael's plastron in the new group shot? Haven't noticed that before and it's a nice touch!

I'm SO excited to see Leo's katana sheathed to one side like in Mirage. I remember Rose said she though that was his design after the preview thing and I'm really happy it is. Just one of those little things I have always wanted from the cartoon version!!

Yeah, it seems to be like a battle scar or something. I think it's a nice touch indeed. Shows they've been actually injure and contributes to the whole being a ninja thing As well as Donny's missing tooth I guess Maybe you are right about the reason why they keep Donny's mouth close most of the time.

I don't mind where Leo has his katanas, but I do wonder why they change them in the first place...

He didn't appear in the 1980's show. He's his own character with his own comic series, they just happened to do a few crossover issues.
Give him a google search.

Based on what we've heard, it sounds a bit different than the storyline going on in the comics. Plus, I think it might be to early to bring in Old Hob since he's still new.
