Anything farfetched does not necessarily = comedy. Mirage Turtles was always sci-fi adventure. Not comedy...

There was comedy in those books.

Example, #3 when the couple is thrown into the water and April's van being mistaken for a getaway van.

I don't think even Regular Show could get away with that let alone TMNT.

EDIT: Or did this happen in the comics?

Exactly.

TMNT has ALWAYS been comedic in some way.

Really? Easy to make him an idiot? I don’t find that an excuse from Nickelodeon. But maybe we don’t have anything to worry about. He may be a goofball, especially to kids, but I don’t think he’ll be an idiot. It’s not like Mikey is going to be the Seth Rogen Green Hornet, right? That one was a total boob.

In fact, have you ever considered the personality that Nick is going with may be similar to Po’s from Kung-Fu Panda? That may be all right, but I’m not a fan of Kung Fu Panda: Legend of Awesomeness. But think about it. Wouldn’t Po make Bruce Lee noises, too? Anyway, I don’t care what happens. As long he is as likeable as the others, I’ll survive.

We're talking about the Mirage comics, but it's still a good example of comedy in the series.

Is that him? I think it's the puppeteer's voice.

I was under the impression that the guys in the suits actually read the lines while filming.

The "Behind The Shells" tape shows the puppeteers actually doing the on set voices over speakers, so I'm pretty sure that's what it is.

I think some people need to remind themselves that when the TMNT are on TV, despite any sophistication their series' may have, are at the center of things, kids shows. Cartoons for children. The fact that they're oriented around comedy, is nothing new at all. For gods sakes...

Exactly. It's obvious Mike is going to be the biggest comic relief, it's nothing new. Plus, we haven't even seen any actual footage yet and people are flipping!

Maybe they should go back to making Raph comic relief, since that was well received. The reason 80's Mikey was good is he wasn't forced comic relief in that series, he made a few jokes here and there but nothing major.

I'll give you that, Cybercubed. I always enjoyed that balance of the OT and subsequent films. Like most people, they all had jokes to share.
I'm 100% open to the idea of giving another turtle the comic role, or at least the partner for banter like Donny was to Mikey in the first flick.

Maybe in the new show, Donnie will be the comic relief Turtle...

One can hope.
