As much as I love the Turtles, more than likely they will not enjoy such a run.

Right now Nick/Viacom is cashing in on a rare sweet spot in commercialism: you have us first generation fans who grew up with the OT/Turtlemania who are now late 20's/mid-30's.

You also have the second generation of kids who are now college age and over the "cartoons are for kids" kick that happens in the mid-teens.

Plus, mixed amongst those generations is their kids.

While the toon is targeting the kids, of course, it's no secret they are squarely hitting us older fans for the nostalgia factor.

Thankfully, their product looks to be a good one thus far, and will probably have a nice 5-7 year run before Turtlemania II begins to fizzle.

At that time, Nick/Viacom will retire the IP to let it hibernate for a few years before beginning yet another iteration.

Honestly though, it'll be intersting to see what future incarnations of the Turtles will be like because this one is shaping up to be a cool blend of old/new.

Well it's TMNT Gen 3, but I don't see what's so hard to believe a 7-10 season run when the 4kids show lasted 7 seasons on an obscure network, and this show is Nick's #1 priority airing on the main kids network.

Will they let TMNT go away again? Of course, but that's after it will have run its course.

Companies don't spend $100 million+ on something without the intention of making that all back and a profit.

Yeah, with Peter Laird's financial backing.

Try again.

But that doesn't mean they're going to waste more money if it doesn't work.

It fails? It's gone.

Each of the three TMNT series have aired in different eras of technology. The first aired before the Internet was important, so word of mouth was the key for that series to be successful, and at a time where there were many didn't even have cable, the series was a success, riding a tide of toy commercial-oriented toons and the rise of video games which led to its great marketing. Even before the cartoon aired according to the introduction in the first graphic novel from 1986, it stated that there were already hundreds of thousands of fans, figurines, RPGs, and T-Shirts.

The 4kids series seemed to play off of three camps: the original Mirage audience who enjoyed seeing their comics adapted into animated episodes were already starting to have children by that time, the college-aged audience who grew up with the OT who have just gotten past the "cartoons are for kids" myth, and some young fans who just happened to discover the series. Unlike the Fred Wolf series, the Internet became an important tool to market this series as episodes started to be posted online with the rise of Youtube and Social Media. However, since it was still rather soon after the Next Mutation/Image bizarreness, it didn't quite tap to its full potential.

Nick's Turtles come at a time where technology is everywhere and smartphones/tablets proliferate, with the Internet even more sophisticated as ever, making that key to marketing, given how fractured television has become nowadays. Still, it will take lots of great reviews and our support to make this new generation as big as the first one. There are many more franchises out there to compete with, including the one that faded TMNT's first generation, Power Rangers. This series needs to prove that the show is entertaining and a superior product to all of the competitors. However, with so much money spent, it is more important than ever for this series to be profitable for Nick, as if it turns out to be a mistake, don't expect Nick to promote TMNT for long, and it may be hard to sell since Nick doesn't want all that red ink. The upcoming holiday season will be a huge test since everyone will be indoors with the cold weather watching TV/playing games, shopping for merchandise, and hopefully sharing some positive thoughts about the Nick era. It is us fans that dictate the franchises fate, not the creators.

I am pretty sure it doesn't work like that, otherwise Fast Forward wouldn't have happened as that was an attempt to sell more toys. 4kids foot the bill for the majority of the animation costs and Playmates toy sales had to do well.

And Viacom/Nick is a billion dollar company. Look at how much they're promoting the show, all the tie ins, the $100 million investment, no way can they allow it to fail or they'll have the biggest bomb on their hands in years.

Thankfully its likely to do very well, it's airing on Nick in a good timeslot where most will be able to see it and the show looks like it'll easily pull in little kids based on the humor and action we've seen so far.

I wouldn't worry about the show not doing well, it's going to do great, especially now that it's on Nickelodeon. Nickelodeon is one of the Best Networks for kids and it is extremely successful. Plus, Nickelodeon has promoted the show in so many different ways that any kid who has been watching nick recently should know about it. By the way, am i the only one having a hard time imagining the show getting cancelled and a new incarnation to follow in the future? it's just that nickelodeon has spent so much time and effort in the new series, that i can't imagine it getting cancelled. Who knows, it may become even more popular than spongebob and keep going for 15 years like spongebob is. Either way, this show will be great and i guarantee it will be successful and last for quite a while.

Very true, with Nick owning the property 100%, they wouldn't cancel the show just to do another one 2 years later...makes no sense.

The only other option is if Nick sells off TMNT to another third party, but that is probably unlikely as well.

It's true. They could throw, say $100 Million at it and if it doesn't find an audience it can still bomb.

Not that I think or hope it will, but just throwing money at something doesn't bring results.
