I'm not thrilled the season will end at episode 98 but I have enough faith that the show will get 100+ episodes that I'm not worried. They could start off with a an hour premiere and celebrate the 100th episode of the series with season 5.

Folks are making a good point about "fillers" if the story is tighter in season 4 then I'm all for keeping it to 20 episodes a season. That's plenty really.

Turn-around time wont be effected too much, they will probably be able to air 10 episode batches with a few months between them if they make 20 episodes a season a regular thing beyond season 4.

Happy notes: Season 4, confirmation of Leo's actor

Sad notes: No more Jason Biggs, only 20 eps of S4

I do like Seth Green and his work on Robot Chicken, but I really would've liked to have seen Biggs stay. He had the 15 year old, frightened leader voice that Leo utterly deserves.

There are SOME examples of shows dipping in # of episodes per season only to go back up again. But it's not the most encouraging sign.

Let's just be happy it's 20 and not say 13 or 9 episodes a season... Nick has had shows like that.

Also... just because it's 20 doesn't mean there won't be double-length episodes or something to help elongate it

20 episode season does not mean less filler, it just means less episodes.

I'm guessing the 20 episode thing for Season 4 is when they plan to wrap this thing up with all of the stories and plots. Personally I'd rather have it be just be a known and planned ending of 4 Seasons and leave people wanting more, then have it keep going on and either get canceled at a moment's notice (this leaving hanging plotlines) or become a lumbering low quality zombie that keeps getting resurrected year after year just because it makes money (Spongebob and Simpsons.)

Plus Ciro has plans on how to end the stories and things for every season, just in case this show isn't renewed. I'm betting strongly he's dedicated to delivering a quality product, and hates hanging endings just as much as we do. That's why I admire the man, he's got heart.

Where do you get the idea the show is planned to end at Season 4? The show will obviously go on for as long as ratings and toy sales remain stable to support it.

Nick paid $60 million for the franchise, you really think they paid money to kill a show in only 4 years? Its not like the IDW comic alone gives them that much in terms of sales.

I emailed the author of the article and they said they made a mistake regarding S2 ending June 29th. I was a little worried they were going to push the final four episodes of this season until later this fall.

The article has been updated to note the change.

I'm pretty sure they've already made back their investment and then some so it's not like they'd be at a loss if they end the show in 2016. However, Viacom may be hinging their future decisions on whether or not the movie meets expectations. Nickelodeon will be able to re-air the show for as long as they want and with 98 episodes they'd have plenty to cycle through.

By no means am I saying I expect them to end TMNT at 98 episodes but it certainly would not be out of the question if they felt even more so than before that action animation does not fit their image.

Cool to hear season 2 will end in July. I'm all for that as there won't be any breaks, and that's a good thing. 20 eps for season 4 doesn't sound that bad depending on where they want to go with it. And as for Green replacing Biggs, I'm fine with that, too.

I agree, MW. I think it's great that he has endings worked out in case it does end after season 4. At least we're getting 20 episodes rather than 13 similar to the fate of Clone Wars season 6. I'd be disappointed if the show ended after 4 seasons, but as long as they gave us a satisfying ending, I'd be okay with it. That's a much better run than the great but short lived Marvel and DC shows got. I hope we get a 5th season though. Love seeing my TMNT series lasting over 100 episodes.

20 episodes for Season 4 doesn't bother me as long as we get a tight season with a good storyline; I'm in agreement here - at this stage I'm just looking at it as a season with fewer filler episodes.

I'm not worried about the future of the show when the official press release has the following:

Quote:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ranked as one of the top five animated series for first quarter across all of television, and in consumer products is a retail success around the world
Quote:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a global consumer products powerhouse, winning in every category that has hit the shelves to date. (Source: The NPD Group, Inc., 2013 and 2014). It locked first quarter 2014 as the number-one action figure brand, and it has three of the top five action toys across the industry. Additionally, it was the number-one toy for boys at Wal-Mart, Target and Toys"R"Us, and won two TOTY Awards, including top honors for Property of the Year in 2013. (Source: The NPD Group, Inc., Toys & Traditional Games, Annual 2013-2014).
I noticed that Nick also ordered 20 episodes for S3 of Sanjay & Craig. Maybe that's more in line with the industry now.

I'm glad that S2 will be wrapping up next month so that we won't have anymore ridiculous breaks. As for S4 only having 20 episodes...I don't see it as a HUGE problem, it's really not, I just hope that this doesn't mean that the show's popularity is already declining.

As for Seth Green as Leo...I guess we'll see how it goes. Biggs was a perfect voice for him, PERFECT. I'll really miss him. I'm sure Seth Green can't possibly be as terrible as the guy that's voicing Leo right now, though.

My only gripe with a 20 episode season is my dream of seeing a TMNT cartoon reach 200 episodes may never happen.

I always loved it that TMNT cartoons went on for hundreds of episodes like anime. I always used to laugh at how DC and Marvel cartoons got canceled after like 65 episodes (mostly) and TMNT went on for hundreds of episodes.

We don't know if Season 2 ends in July. The original poster misread the article (it said June 29th, not July 29th). June 29th was an error on the original article on THR. Unfortunately no end date has been given for S2. It makes sense to have it in July/August to be in conjunction with the movie release though.

Hey, I'd love it if the series never ended... but it's a double edged sword. Either you live long enough to see your favourite series get cancelled... or the quality eventually declines enough that they'd end up doing a bunch of stuff you'd probably hate.

I'm sure we'll get plenty of good episodes, and that's the main thing.

It's funny how we're talking about Season 4 already even though we are still in the middle of Season 2 How many episodes for Season 3?

I'm surprised about the cast change for Leonardo. All I can think of is Chris Griffin from Family Guy...

As for the 20 episodes... Hey, it equals to roughly an episode every other week. That wouldn't break my heart..
