Oh, didn't mean it as a slight. The character wasn't designed or intended to be as irredeemably evil as the Joker. There have been several points in the comics where she's attempted to redeem herself, or has shown genuine human compassion. And there was a pretty-good solo title a while back that showed that her perception of reality is distorted, and she didn't fully see the reality of the violence she's surrounded by or committing, instead viewing the world functioning with Looney Tunes rules.

Generally she's on a level where she can work as a villain or a sort of anti-hero as the story requires without straining believability too much. Making her into a mass, deliberate child-murderer completely destroys that "line".

Because of course everyone's problem with Harley's sexiness is their own lack of sex.

You want some Batman characters who should be practically nude? Poison Ivy and White Rabbit. Sexiness is part of their character from day one (in White Rabbit's case, that's all the poor one-story only rogue has). Overt dripping with sexy is not who Quinn is supposed to be.

Also, sexy =/= half-naked in every case. Plenty of folks found the skin-tight harlequin costume sexy in its own right. Like, classy-sexy. Not desperate-sexy like New 52 Harley.

And, yeah, how else should I read "too revealing, too slutty" etc. It reads like a bunch of angry nerds doing what they do, waving the big SJW flagg. I get that you could have gone a different way, but you can do worse than Robbie.

Anyway, there are lots of Harley costumes, this isn't my fave, and I wasn't really drawing attention to the shorts as Sexy. Robbie is sexy, Gadot is sexy. WW has never really been "Sexy" in the comics, and Zena is what I expected from WW. I hated Zena. So far, the little bit of WW they put out, looks good, but we'll see. I think you can do strong women without resorting to masculine tropes, or using physically masculine women; I think it's a novel approach.

I put up a gif of Robbie, looking dead sexy. Her face. Not her a$$. First response was about booty shorts and a tirade of she looks ridiculous, and SHOULD actually be in a black and red, skin tight, clown suit...

So, yeah... it's not outrageous. It's not nuts. If you wanna get nuts, we can get nuts....

Wait, not. Should've copied the Suicide Squad animated movie costume. That would've been perfect. It is literally the original outfit, just made more realistic. Instead of a full rubber suit, just tight pants, a crop top, boots and then a pullover mask which could've been left out. Still "able to bring in 14 year old boys" while not making her a total slut. Checkered design and everything.


Seriously, why did they decide to turn Harley's checkered pattern in to two face -esque. That my biggest complaint. All you had to do was flip the colors on the jacket to be opposite each sides ponytail/short color...

I dunno, there's something to be said for the understated awesome that is her triple diamond leg tattoo. I just don't know if it'll be distracting enough for me to be wondering if her bootyshorts are going to give her a yeast infection by the end of the movie.

You can't have classic Harley in a live action movie, she looks fine. When Harley was first introduced in comics she didn't really fit in IMO and now she fits in much better. Some of her "slutty" costumes are terrible but some of them fit her character perfectly.

If you have to strip someone down to near-naked levels to make them look "sexy", you're not trying hard enough. There's nothing "wrong" with it, necessarily, and certain contexts almost require it... but most of the looks DC's given her in the past 5 years just don't seem like they're trying very hard. There are plenty of ways to preserve the idea of the original look and update it for a video game or a movie or whatever, without just saying "scantily-clad Hot Topic girl" and calling it a day.

I don't think anyone's disputing that. Because... I mean, it's indisputable, come on. But I think the conversation tangented from that; it wasn't replying to that one GIF directly, necessarily.

Aside from the one bending-over shot, it didn't feel like they were going for the New 52 "desperate T&A" angle quite so much. Which is good. I'm already convinced that Robbie's performance alone is going to make that character.

Except that there's nothing what so ever unconventional about Harley Quinn. She's 100% generic. She's a gun moll for a hood with a clown fetish. Victim of the Florence Nightingale trope. Cleric. I'm a social justice cleric. If you're going to try and toss Social Justice around like it's some sort of shameful thing, at least do me the courtesy of getting my class correct.

B. It's not novel for a strong woman to not be physically "masculine" what ever the f*ck that means, that's status quo. Yeah, I'll give you that many a crap writer has written a "strong woman" as just a "man with tits," but to claim that this is the norm? No, i don't think so.

Gadot looks great, and it's a boon that she's ex-military, but she's not an Amazon.

Again. Not loving the lack of pants. The ink is nice. the pigtails are a nice touch. A pair of shorts that covered her thigh gap would have been better.
