Damn.. what's with the negativity?

I actually like the poster... True, its not the best one.. I have the teaser one with Leo in a dark alley holding his katana as my desktop wallpaper.

Anyways... I don't like the eye color or their cheeks. However, I the way it looks overall... It just need little polishing, like with the skin color.. it needs to be more scaly, not smooth. And i think the picture quality itself shoudl be slightly gritty. Leo looks menacing.. his posture, his sword.. his expression (if only he had different color eyes), which i like. And I actually like the Lens Flare, Luckoff. Who cares that nobody else in Hollywood uses it?

Seriously, guys... We have two years to go before the movie is released. Laird CARES about his turtles... he wouldn't just give them to people if he knew they would make an half-assed effort.

I think we can be assured that the movie will have a good story... a while ago, somebody posted an interview with the director who assured us that he would stick to continuity and make sure the movie followed the source material.

Anyways... you guys are way too negative... do we even know if this is even an offical poster?

Hopefully the plot/storyline will be good, I can forgive the look of the characters if there is a solid story there that grabs me and doesnt insult my intelligence. But seeing as im fully into the new cartoon show I would prefer them to look somewhat like their cartoon counterparts, or at least come up with a happy medium between how they look now and how they looked in the old toon and comics. Looking at that poster I agree what everyone else has said so far. The skin doesnt bother me that much but the eyes need to be rectified... Id prefer the white eyes. They are spaced too far apart and the head looks like its been squashed. There is too much cheek bulge in them. Again i guess i am biased to the new cartoon look...but geez...that doesnt look like a turtle..it looks like a frog, or a salamander or something.

They still have time to get it right...heres hoping.

Exactly. To both of you.

I mean, come on people! Just be happy we're getting a new movie!! Years ago, this wasn't a reality, and all we can do to be thankful is berate the choices they made on it? It's a serious killjoy to the excitement of it all.

Just be happy we GET a movie.

I am.

I will certainly not go and see a movie I don't like, simply because of the fandom. In cases like that, when it gets that extreme, I tend to turn away from fandom and live my own life, with my personal fandom. I don't give a damn about being a true fan or some fandom laws. I don't really apreciate statements like these to begin with. Sure, a movie is a neat thing, but if it's going to be some crappy CGI-atrocity, I won't go and see it. I'll get it on DVD one day... maybe. But I don't feel like I owe the TMNT or the fans anything.

THE REASON WHY IT MATTERS THAT HOLLYWOOD DOESN'T USE LENS FLARE IS BECAUSE LEN FLARE LOOKS CORNEY. ITS TAKE AWAY FROM THE REALISTIC LOOK OF THE POSTER. AND THAT IS WHAT THE POSTER IS TRYING TO PULL OFF. YOU WILL NEVER SEE A SPIDERMAN OR AN X-MEN POSTER WITH CORNEY LENS FLARE LIKE THAT. THE MAJORITY AGREES THAT LENS FLARE LIKE THAT IS CORNEY. YOU LEARN LENS FLARE WHEN YOU 1ST USE PHOTOSHOP AND AS YOU PROGRESS YOU LEARN BETTERS WAY TO REFLECT LIGHT THAT DOESN'T LOOK SO CORNEY. THEY LOOK LIKE ARMATURES, THE ONES WHO DESIGNED THE TMNT POSTER.

OH, YES!!!! HOTT!!!!!!!!

REMEMBER, EVERYTHING METAL AND SHINNY HAS A EXTREMELY BRIGHT LIGHT, RIGHT IN FRONT OF IT.........LOL,PLEASE.

WE ONLY HAVE ONE YEAR, NOT TWO.

YES THE STORY MAYBE GOOD, BUT WHAT IS A GOOD STORY WITH OUT GOOD VISUALS? THATS THE POINT OF THE MOVIE, FOR GODS SAKE. IF VISUALS WERNT IMPORTANT IN THIS CASE THEN I'D RATHER GET THE STORY IN COMIC BOOK FORM, OR HAVE MY MOTHER READ IT TO ME FOR BED TIME....... PLEASE.

WHEN IS IT ALRIGHT TO BE NEGATIVE? AND KEEP IN MIND I'M MOSTLY NOT A NEGATIVE PERSON, BUT ITS OVERWHELMINGLY OBVIOUS THAT THIS POSTER IS CRAPPY. WHEN ARE WE ALLOWED TO CRITICIZE????????

SO YOU WOULD ACCEPT ANY CRAP THROWN AT YOU, JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE A FAN?????? LOL, THATS FUNNY. I'M NOT GONNA BE HAPPY, JUST BECAUSE I'M GETTING A NEW MOVIE. WE ARE IN THE AGE OF CG AND THIS IS WHAT OUR BELOVED TMNT'S GET??????? I SPEND ALOT OF MY HARD EARNED MONEY AND TIME ON MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS, BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN I SHOULD ACCEPT ANYTHING I GET WHEN THE POTENTIAL IS ENDLESS. I MEAN WOULD YOU HAVE BEEN HAPPY WITH A MOVIE THAT USED THE NEXT MUTATION COSTUMES RATHER THEN THE ONES THEY USED IN THE 90'S, NOW KNOWING HOW WELL THE 1ST MOVIE DID?

YOUR LOGIC IS "ILK!". BECAUSE YOU HAVE EXTREMELY LOW STANDARDS DOESN'T MEAN YOU ARE A BETTER FAN, OR BECAUSE I HAVE HIGH STANDARDS MAKE ME A FAKE FAN. iLL.

Agreed, Anarky... I don't like that comment, either. My apologies. Had a bad day, here, so I over reacted.

My apologies again.

I empathize with both sides on this... I would undoubtedly go see it no matter what because I am soooooo happy we are getting this at all. I also understand and mostly from being in an animation/film dept. at my university for four years that the look will kill a movie no matter what the script is like with very few exceptions. It would kill me to hear all my teachers and peers rip this movie apart simply on looks. It would become another CGI joke, popular with fans but widely laughed at.

The bodies I may be able to live with. Limbs with musculature inside them take a long time and are ridiculously complicated to create even by the most well seasoned modeler. I see why they made the limbs the way they did with thickness instead of precise muscle.

I really hope that they push the faces in and create a jaw of somesort I don't see how they are going to succesful shape a mouth that way. They should have modeled using reference from highquality figurines or even from the original costumes. It is very true that a movie poster this early is just a prototype and under all the rendering there is skelington of little polys and nurbs waiting to be moded...subdivide and conquer people (I gave 3D up for the most part so for all those who know far more about Maya then me, feel free to laugh at the references I don't have in correct context)

Laird does care and I believe his is hovering over that studio as much as he can. I am still looking forward to this movie

The one positive thing that stands out about this poster is the cranial structure of Leo and how it closely reflects that of his head in the first-ever Mirage comic. But like others said, the eyes are too far apart, the colors are kind of.... I dunno... bad. The texture looks okay. I think there's a lot of room for improvement, though. There's still a little over a year left for this to work. Hopefully, the designers can utilize that time in reconstructing the model of their turtles.

I want to stay neutral on this, I already seen the debates on "Superman Returns" and the new CGI Transformers movie...and asa fan of both plus TMNT I'm just going to sit back and wait.

I agree with you on the whole "If it's a good story I can look past it" idea... but the best thing would, of course, be something where my jaw is hitting the floor every step of the way. Something where I go through every second of the movie.

It may turn out differently. Maybe they will miraculously find a way to look their mouth move properly the way it's designed. Maybe that's only a concept design. Perhaps the story and animation will blow us away so we don't care about the looks of the TMNT's heads. I don't know. All I'm saying is looking at that image (which isn't even new to a lot of us), I don't really like the design.

So while I rant and complain, I am giving the other aspects of the movie (and even the possibility that this isn't the final design) a chance. I'm not trying to be so negative as to drag others down. I'm just callin' it as I see it.

I actually like what I've seen of their bodies. Thick wrists and ankles not only make them look sturdier, but they also are faithful to their early Mirage incarnations. I like it. I hope we do get to see a little bit of musculature though. That'd be way awesome.

And again with the head design. That little "barely there" jaw/chin... I keep having visions of bad CG kids shows when I try to think of that moving with speech. I think if there was only one thing I could fix about this picture, it would be that. The rest just conflicts with my personal tastes, which isn't so bad.

Oh, and the lens flare? Yeah, like LUCKFF said... They're not used in Hollywood because any idiot can open Photoshop and slap down a lens flare. There's a time and place to use them... and you never use it this way. It does look really corny.

Ok I understand this CGI thing is new to everyone. We are used to animated on paper as well as live action. But let's just give thisa chance. If it sucks, we tell Peter issucks and to never let it be CGI again.

Negativity and constructive criticsm are two different things. The call on the style needs to be said to make something better. Design is extrememly important, I am thinking maybe just maybe for the sake of getting something out to show this time the movie really is getting off its feet they threw whatever models they had in the backgrounds. Those may have been three models ago for all we know. If it's not then there is nothing wrong with pointing out the style is a little undesirable. Heck if I didn't get my butt kicked a little I would never get a good movie or character out.

Has it occured to anyone that this may be the only imagery out there (which no doubt are months old) these places have available to them, and so they are slapping them up on their sites in poster sizes? As was stated, Photoshop can easily manip these things into what we see that has sparked such a debate. Grain of salt, people, grain of salt.

Unhappy

*sigh* I hope this isn't their final version. First, I think the design is snake-like, as LUCKFF said... And even with a lackluster design, the least they could do is give them some texture. The skin looks rubbery smooth in that cheap computer way.

I'm glad they didn't just do a translation of the live-action movie turtles(which I'm not terribly fond of, due to their creepiness/vague semblence to turtles) Why couldn't these guys just study turtles and get some inspiration? Come up with a new, but good design? Instead of generic reptile head, why don't they just go for turtle-based heads... I mean as far as eye-spacing and snouts go? The cheeks are way too... sharp. So exaggerated, they don't even look like turtles. More like dinosaurs, if you ask me.

Let's face it, guys. TMNT is an old franchise. Talented, creative people would rather work with franchises that aren't ancient and haven't been dragged through the mud. Unfortunately, while Superman and Batman are classic, being from their "good ole days" era, TMNT is from the 80's. Much as we may be attached to such gems... much of the older generations hate the decade (by older, I mean baby boomer and slightly younger). At least, that is the impression I have gotten from teachers. So we shouldn't be surprised if this movie stinks to high heaven. I'm still bothered by who they have gotten to direct the film -- take a look at Mr. Munroe's resume. And pray he's creative genius waiting to happen.

The only thing I like about the design? They gave Leo red eyes. I remember, when googling pictures of pond turtles, one species whose males had red-yellow eyes. Very cool, IMO. Gives them that scary freak/animal look.

Doesn't mean I like the eye structure/design. They look like pokemon eyes, IMO. But eye color? Yes. Finally, something other than the generic brown/black shtick a lot of versions have. I hope maybe they'll add some flecks of other colors, if it so happens this ain't the final design.

But other than that, I am not at all enthused by these dinosaurs. Hoping for major improvement. Although I doubt we will see any. TMNT is too old a franchise to get any serious treatment (and as far as I know, there are no creative powerhouses who are really enthusiastic about TMNT. I envy transformers. They have Spielberg in their vast arsenal...)

Look, it doesn't matter if the TMNT look weird or not, this is a very early teaser, probably with not all of the kinks worked out of it yet. In a few months time, another poster will most likely be released, so it's possible that the TMNT designs will be changed at least slightly by then

So kick back. Relax. And don't complain about it until we know what the TMNT will look like in the final form *sips coke before going hyper*

I know, you're totally right on this one... we still have over a year until the release, so... anything can happen. Maybe it'll turn out Pete Jackson has always been a TMNT fan and --

No. I must eliminate my expectations. That way, I won't care if it stinks, and if it rocks, I'll be able to enjoy it all the more.

However, I stand by my opinion that, IN ITS CURRENT STATE, the designs still need work.

EDIT: Hey... just noticed something kind of... uplifting. This doesn't seem to be an official or even preliminary movie poster -- note the words at the bottom of the pic: "For licensing opportunities, contact 4kids entertainment." I take it then, that this was just a teaser for interested INVESTORS. (That's why they didn't waste their money on heavy-duty graphics. That's why the turtles have that photoshopped skin and confounded lens flare.)

Luckoff... let's just agree to disagree, alright? I don't see anything wrong with the lens flare... I think its a nice touch myself.. *shrugs*

I have been looking at the poster for a while, and I have to say, the eye color are starting to grow on me. They make Leo look intimidating... However, I do not understand what people mean by saying that the eyes are too far apart? They seem fine to me.. *shrugs* How close are they supposed to be?

I don't like the skin texture.. its too smooth. It needs to be more rough, more scaly. The colors are "meh".. could use more variation in skin tone.

I will say that i am going to wait before making my final judgement, and that I have faith in Laird to ensure that the movie will be successful, and I think you guys hsould too. Laird wouldn't just let the franchise crash with a bad movie.

And I think we might be jumping slightly to conclusions. We know NOTHING about the way that the turtles will move from this poster. We need clips or trailers to be able to accurate judge the CGI animation and whether teh jaw structure for speaking are alright. Maybe it's the poster itself that makes the skin look bad, and it will look better when we see some actual clips? Just a thought...

I understand you guys want the movie to be as good, and constructive cricitism is good, but I just feel like you're completely bashing it before you guys really know anything.. *shrugs*

Oh my I couldn't take the complexity of that one. I mean King Kong was great and all but a three hour TMNT movie? Though maybe he could have some nice input on the designs.

Yeah I'm gonna say that those designs don't look to promising. But we will have to see after we have seen the final product. Hope it doesn't have that look but we shall see.

YOU'RE RIGHT ABOUT LAIRD IceRash78. I FEEL BETTER THAT HE'S LOOKING OVER THE PROJECT. LETS JUST HOPE HE HAS ENOUGH CREATIVE POWER TO CHANGE WHAT WE HAVE SEEN SO FAR. AS FAR AS THE BASHING, I AND EVERYONE ELSE WAS BASHING THAT STUPID POSTER. WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT CAN HAPPEN. WE WEREN'T BASHING WHAT WE DIDN'T KNOW. ALOT OF US INCLUDING MY SELF WERE USING THE WORDS "IF IT ENDS UP LIKE THIS, IT SUCKS" ETC...NOBODY HAS MADE FINAL JUDGMENT YET.

ALL THE PICS WE HAVE SO FAR FOR THE MOVIE:

I REMEMBER THIS BEING UP ON EBAY. ITS A PAGE FROM A MAGAZINE. IT LOOKS SO STUPID I HAVE TO BELIEVE ITS FAKE. I HOPE IT IS.

THIS WAS THE 1ST REAL LOOK WE GOT.

THE FOLLOWING TWO WERE FROM THE COMIC CON

LEO IN THE SHADOWS

NOW THATS MUCH BETTER LENS FLARE.
