When I really think about what I've seen of the new toon, Mikey's nunchaku were used but it was always implied that he hit whoever with them. From what I've seen, they never really showed him making direct contact.

Same goes for a lot of scenes in the first movie where he'd be fighting while carrying his nunchaku in hand. Most of the time he was hitting an enemy with his fist or holding both sticks and hitting them that way with the sticks (a perfectly viable technique in a realistic sense). However, I don't really remember him actually swinging and hitting someone with them (or at least attempting to) more than a couple times.

Also, we know that the production team, Mr. Laird, and Mr. Munroe are making sure that the fans will enjoy this. I'm putting my trust in them that even if the nunchaku are edited around, it's nothing worse than any other time in the US that it was only implied that Mikey hit someone with the nunchaku.

I'd still put that scene in during the credits just to spite censors, though.

[edit]First Movie:

-- Apartment Battle --

Mikey swung his chucks at two Foot Soldiers at the very beginning of the battle after the "Nunchaku Duel".

The "Wheel of Fortune" scene has Mikey holding both sticks in his hand as he spins.

The exact moment Casey busts in he hols both sticks in his hand and smacks a guy upside the head.

All other offensive maneuvers I saw on his part included multiple knees to one Foot, a punch (I think), symbols, a kick, another punch after Casey frees him from a nelson, some mostly offscreen stuff where his chucks were in his belt, and some deadly wisecracks.

-- On the Farm --

Mikey swung one stick under his armpit chambered it there (presumably after swinging it at one of his brothers while training).

He also punched a punching bag several times.

Some more practice footage where he's swinging at his brothers but never connects. He did get a good kick in on Leo, though.

The same armpit chamber was shown two more times as well.

-- In the Sewer --

Too much fog at first. It's totally implied through sound effects that the TMNT use their weapons, though.

After that he's hitting with the sticks leading a Foot Soldier back to April so she can knock him out, but the sticks are in his hands.

-- In the streets --

Punches, kicks, nunchaku strikes, but never swinging them to hit someone.

-- Rooftop --

Three swings, but he was in the background so it was hard to see.

-- Shredder --

I'm pretty sure he swung against the Shredder but I'm not going to look closely.

My point? This won't be much different than the first movie in terms of chucks usage.[/edit]

Most of the violence in the new toon is implied-- it's not just Mikey's chucks. You never see Leo or Raph using their pointy sides of their weapons to inflict bodily damage. Don has the most freedom, IIRC.

I still don't honestly see whats wrong with Nunchucks or why they are banned, or were banned in the first place! No link? No explanation? Nothing?

the reason why nunchucks are seen as "worse" by censorship is that they are deemed to be more "accessible" to children. The chances of a 5 year old running around with a katana are pretty slim, but tie two sticks together and BAM!

I know because it was all the craze on our street...one crazy kid had two thick metal bars tied together with a dog chain!

Also nunchucks are deadly enough and exert alot of pressure on whoever they hit - easily enough to break bone.

The same can be said for Donatello's weapon, the bo staff. When I was a keep, and had to do some real life street fighting (mainly because there were some teens who loved running around, beating up kids, and trying to kill them), I used alot of bo staff typed reasons. Bambo sticks, the stick part of a broken hoe, trust me, that thing is easier to find that nunchucks.

FWIW, it's easier to do accidental damage with 'chucks than with sticks. But I don't understand the ban either. I imagine that it was some politician's way of showing that he was doing something for public safety to please his overly worried constituents.

Chucks are also far more lethal than a bo, and much easier to conceal.

Yeah but a katana sword is more lethal than chucks, and easier to control.

They didn't allow nunchaku demos at tournaments where I lived because they were known to break and the loose stick would fly into the audience. As far as why it wasn't in the movie, I've no clue.
Some states don't allow you to even transport any of those weapons in your car, and that includes the bo staff. I think the authorities allowed it if you proved you were going to a tournament or dojo class with them.
I don't remember the details on that, though.

This ban on ninja weapons makes me wonder if it's just old fashion racism against Asian culture. Because you can also easily conceal a gun, and that is far more deadlier than a nunchuck.

I know that technically here in Indiana the law on swords is that you can carry one if you keep it in the sheath and in California if you can prove you're walking to or from your martial arts school for class/practice/training/etc. then they likely won't have a problem.

Not to mention kids can easily get their hands on guns somehow. Look at all the school shootings we hear about alot lately.

ahhhhhhhhh but see the constitution allows for a person to have firearms....not martial arts weaponry.

There are all kinds of laws from state to state that restrict martial artists.

There is also a law here that is called "registering your hands" if you are a black belt +. I have to literally register with the city and the state about what training and schools I have been taught in...much like someone applying to carry a gun...so that if any crime is comitted (ie a murder) and it is determined that it was as the result of some martial arts prowess, they can come question me.
