I don't care what his motivation is so much, as long as he is a carbon copy of Gus from Breaking Bad, I will be happy (that guy is RAD).

First off, the pilot was just a test thing as others have said. Maybe Baxter will have better motivations once the show airs, as others have said. Frankly, I can see Baxter geting upset because of getting fired and wanting revenge.

Frankly, I think there needs to be a really good reason for him to be fired, like some sort of illegal activity.

That's definitely true. Either he did something illegal or he was late multiple times because he was doing something on the outside. That could work.
