Better direction and writing? Its a kids cartoon made to sell toys...
And yet its writing is far superior and mostly holds together while the movie's was terrible and ridden with inconsistencies and really basic plot holes.

Just because something's made for children doesn't mean it can't be enjoyed by adults, or that it can't be written well from objective storytelling standards. Not all children's stories are created equal.

Besides, even movies for kids should be well-written. There's no excuses there.

You expect too much from a movie based on fighting talking turtles; stick to your kids show

I'm sorry it bothers you that I expect movies to be written well. I guess I'll stuck to the cartoon show about ninja turtles and the movie about a talking racoon and a tree man that managed to pull that off.

He really doesn't, though, given the quality of modern Comic Book Movies.

Well, to be fair to the people who made the new movie, I don't think their demographic was adult cartoon watchers

Ooh, so dismissive!

You're right, though. Their demographic is everybody, kids and adults alike, cartoon-watching or not. And they've managed to appeal to them all very well with a quality product they can all enjoy.

And they do that by taking care to write and produce them really really well.

Yeah but that takes talent.

Too much to ask for the folks involved in this production.

From all the reviews that have come out, they really didn't know who their audience was. Let's not forget that the franchise is 30 years old and the phenomenon was at it's absolute height 25 years ago. They obviously wanted to capture that demographic with all the OT references and inspired decisions.

It's kind of all bumming me out too. I don't like the Nick cartoon at all--in fact I'd say it's very sloppily written with little care for its ongoing plots. It does seem weird to me that everyone loves it and not the movie. I haven't seen the movie yet though so we'll see.

Actually, I think people are responding pretty well. Sure there's a lot of people who don't like it and a lot who do....but there aren't a ton of flame posts raging against it for unreasonable things.

I've mostly just seen people argue their points to each other rather calmly.

How is that depressing?

This message board is depressing me . The whole lot of you is way too oversensitive and overemotional to have any real discussion. Feel like I'd like to leave.

It's just part of how a lot of fannish internet discussion goes. Fans tend to get a bit more worked up than a lot of other people as it is, but add the internet to it, and you've got the GIFT in full-force.

I'm the same as you, I watched both movies.

Just ignore the haters and carry on loving what you love.

Seriously if I hear one more person say that I'm expecting too much from a movie with 4 talking turtles I'm going to lose my mind. Do you really like TMNT? Because honestly, dismissing the turtles like that makes me think that you don't care what they do with them. You should look back at all the incredible art, stories, etc. that has been done with them.

And the point of this thread is...?

Why do ppl insist on starting a whole new thread to express one damn thought that easily fits into already existing threads?

While I agree with the OP that this place has become a bit depressing with all the fighting, if you really wanted to step back from it all, there wasn't a need to draw so much attention to yourself as you walked away.

That's really unfortunate. You're not the only one either my friend. It's a given that some aren't going to like what they see but.. last night with a few posters it was obviously an attempt to create paranoia. Go see it again anyway lol. It's even better the second time around.

Hearing all the mixed reviews, I still wondering if I'll enjoy this movie or not. It's pretty much the same problems I had with GOTG, but then again I really love the nick show for the turtles, because I find the plots on the show poorly written.

i'm hopefully seeing it today and i'm proooobably going to have big issues with it based on the early responses... i'm not pre-judging it but, i am usually right about this feeling.

my biggest fear? that i end up strongly disliking the film and yet it makes TONS of money (so lots of 'bad' sequels)

I don't care if other people don't like the movie. I know some of my friends will hate it too but I enjoyed the hell out of it and so did my friend that I went with and in the end that's all that really matters.
