You're not the only one - that bit caught me right in the feels! Also, confession time here - as great as SAINW is, it's my least-watched episode/an episode I skip a lot unless I'm in the right state of mind for it, because it's such an emotional kick in the balls for me.

I know, I'm so feeble.

Maybe they could kill off a villain by having them fall off a building or a building collapses on them... I dunno.
Wasn't Dr. Falco/Rat King killed off when Splinter moved aside while on a cliff as the Rat King tried to swat Splinter, and fell off the cliff in the ending of "Of Rats and Men"? ...And therefore assumed to be dead?

Yeah I did, I actually had tears in my eyes.

I think he's alive and he survived his fall, maybe his rats saved him. I doubt that could kill him off that quickly as he's only been the Rat King for 2 episodes (3, if you count Monkey Brains). I expect he will be back in season 3.

Yeah, he could be alive. **shrug** I guess typically when characters die off in cartoons for children, they use the falling off the cliff scene (into a bottomless pit) to imply that, but you never know.

Yeah, they killed a few characters in Gargoyles by having them fall off a cliff/building. It also had a high death toll too as a lot of Gargoyles in stone were smashed and also in the 4 part episode City of Stone, where every human in New York turned to stone and then Demona smashed up some of them.

If they do kill someone off in TMNT, it have to be done off screen. I wonder who could be killed off if they go down that route, (maybe ICK or Kirby). I do wonder that when Karai was put in that metal casket, it could be foreshadowing a death (not Karai) is going to happen soon.

I hope that Rat King isn't dead. He's a great villain. I think they're under-using him in this show, but they're not giving him that great of plots besides take over the mind of Splinter, so I can see why they aren't using him. Plus, he doesn't contribute to the story that much.

Maybe not a physical death as but a proverbial death of a character. Kinda like how they were saying that when Donnie had that second mutation in the 2k3 they were saying that he was losing his mind in that form, but they were also implying that he would die in that form if something wasn't done.

I doubt the Rat King is dead. Nick made it obvious in "The Wrath of Tiger Claw" when Mikey said, "We're forgetting something, something the fate of the world can depend on," and Raphael responded with, "The Rat King?" To me, it foreshadowed the Rat King's return.

Hmmm. That's a good point. Hopefully he's still alive so he can return in season 3.

Just now getting around to posting my thoughts pertaining to this episode because of exam stuff. I loved it, of course. There hasn't been much of a chance for me to re-watch it yet but once things settle down, I'm certainly planning on it. I love all the Fot/Shredder/Karai stuff, so I was glued to the screen from the first scene. Well, we all saw the Karai mutation bit coming, but it was still sad. I love the idea of her being a sort of shapeshifter. Guess we'll have to wait and see if she'll be able to act rationally in her more humanoid form. Also great to know that Baxter is still able to speak. Like I said in the Kabuto thread, chalk it up to him being extremely depressed about the whole mutation thing now and then. Great episode and looking forward to the final 4 of season 2.
Yeah, I was wearing an eye patch because I had my retina surgery the day before the episode aired. It sucked though because I couldn't see anything so I didn't know what was going on. Good thing they replayed the episode the next week.

Nope. Just standard retina surgery to fix a retinal detachment in my good eye. Wasn't fun not to see anything though. I hated it. But that does sound funny now that you think about it. Would have been hilarious if it had happened this year instead of in 2003.

I remember they took a break after that episode and the cliffhanger was absolute HELL.

For a cartoon, this was a seriously emotionally charged episode .
The hug scene was so, real.
Brilliant episode.

IDW is the best version of TMNT

If they make a TMNT reboot movie retelling the shredder battle/origin, I won't buy a ticket.

Yeah, even though we all knew the Turtles would survive and all.

Still, it was just "Wait, what's going to happen next?!?!" kind of like this series.

This episode was intense, and very emotionally charged. And I really liked how Mikey handled himself in this episode, he was comedic, but comedic for a big reason: annoying Bradford and Xever.

Great to know more back story between Splinter and Shredder, and with what happened to Karai was really well done even though I don't care a whole lot of her new King Hsss make-over.

So, I know it's a cartoon and all, but does it bother anyone that when Karai mutates back she's wearing her human outfit? Haha. I know lots of other cartoons do things like this (such as Hulk ripping out of clothes, etc) but it's still a little silly...

I am surprised none of you mentioned How to Train Your Dragon, a critically acclaimed animation meant for all ages, managed to get away with character dismemberment and character death.

Yeah, I know, but that's the way it goes sometimes. We'll get through it.

It doesn't bother me per se, but I totally was thinking about it after the episode. I was like... "So does this mean that she has mutant clothes if they can shapeshift with her?" I have waaaay too many thoughts sometimes.
