I just want to post my thoughts really quick. I thought the premiere was excellent! I was a neutral fan of TMNT when younger (I grew up with the 4Kids series) but watching the new series resurrected my love for it. The animation, while at times awkward such as with an empty NYC, was pretty good for a TV show and the fight scenes were excellent and I was pleasantly surprised with the violence it got away with. What I loved most though was the portrayal of the characters, the turtles felt like actual teens to me while still keeping those loveable quirks we are familiar with. I didn't even mind that April was made into a teen, the one thing I was most worried about was Rob Paulsen as Donatello since I felt he should have gotten back his role as Raphael. But I'm over it, I actually really love Rob as Donnie and I love the rest of the cast as well, especially Greg Biggs.
Just thought I would make my opinion. |

I fully agree about NYC being so empty. It does not feel like NYC at all. NYC has to be alive and busy, even at 3am in the morning. I live in San Francisco which is tiny in comparison and even it is bustling at all hours. NYC must be on a whole new level.
But we know these are clearly budgetary limitations, not just creating the models but animating them. That, and it kind of gets in the way of the story, the turtles couldn't fight out on the street without 20 people seeing them within about a minute. I really hope this is something they address more as time goes on. NYC is a BIG, busy place, the turtles can't just run around all night and only bump into 2 or 3 people. It is rather lazy. One thing I love about the first TMNT live action film, the film starts off showing NYC and how big and busy it is. Then you learn about this hidden secret hiding in the sewers, part of what is interesting about TMNT is how they can exist in this environment and stay undetected using their ninja skills. It's a side of the mythology that I really want them to stress more. Anyway, suspension of disbelief is a useful ally. |

I like it.
Leo being a nerd over STASlookalike (when it's usually Mike), Don and Raph having arguments (when it's usually Leo and Raph) and Mike is not as annoying as his 2K3 (his short attention span IS worrying though) are really interesting quirks. A lot of Raph fans say he's badass and I go "Yeah, ok.", since he IS the popular Turtle. But this version shows he's the best fighter of the four, outclassing *gasp* Leo. His action scenes are pretty awesome as well. I didn't mind about teen!April. She was funny in the brief moments the show featured her. I feel bad about Don (once Casey shows up eventually) because him crushing on her and jumpstarting the plot is adorable. And her poor dad. :/ Splinter plays like a sarcastic overprotective dad. Love it.

Maybe they believe its was only a clock! or Maybe an ornament that Splinter fit on the wall when they were young and they did not know what actually represented (not the same one true pizza, than a picture/draw of a pizza)...
just rambling.....

I can't stop thinking about the relationship between Goliath and Elisa in Gargoyles (Season 1, 2 and the Clan-Building Comic books - wait..., even in the Marvel comics) when it comes to Donnies crush on April.
It was so well played out how they slowly fell in love with each other (very, very slowly), how they knew that a Gargoyle and a human could never be together and how they finally ignored that preconception and were ready to take the consequences. There were so many feelings in this..., especially when both dated someone else for the Halloween party. And above all I think it's great that Greg Weisman had the guts to write such an objectionable storyline, that's nothing to be sure for a kids show - a Disney kids show! I would really appreciate something like that for 2K12. If it's just fodder for some funny, goofy moments...., then I think it's dumb. And to be honest I'm afraid Nick doesn't have the balls. It would be awesome if the show gets it's own movie, ala reverse Kung-Fu Panda. I'd love to see the Cg models bumped to feature film budget, especially Splinter. He would look so awesome with proper fur.

I really love all the 'NYC is empty! It should be busy!' talk.
Take it from someone that lived in New York for most of his life, the area where most of the episode took place was not Manhattan. It was clearly Brooklyn or even The Bronx. Those areas are quite dead at later hours. All of New York isn't the city. Now if there's a scene of the turtles in Times Square or something and it's still completely empty then there's a more valid complaint.

Yeah.. uh Elisa and Goliath should never be compared to anybody period. They are the best love story in comics and toons period imo. What Don has is a fricken boyhood crush and nothing more.

Besides, keep in mind that Archie comics used that same iteration of mutagen as well to turn a human teenager into Mondo Gecko, a human marine biologist into Man Ray and a human spy into the Chameleon. Infact Shredder even explains how it works to the Chameleon before he sprays the poor bastard. |

Agreed Jephael. I mean, we're already talking about a series with four, bipedal, intelligent, Ninja Turtles...I think mutagen that mutates something into being more like the last thing they touched is hardly something that jumps the shark here.
That and, they haven't really stated that to be the case in the show yet, though that's got to be how it works - though I wonder how in the heck Hamato Yoshi stepping on the rat counts when he had his shoes on...

That kinda sounds like "this forbidden love is alright and acceptable, but this one totally isn't" to me.
