Future Tense TPB

Considering the series ran for 72 issues, and the good stories really got going around issue 30 or so, the book had a really solid run, with great art and solid plots. Welcome to the club

I always thought Archie picked up as soon as they stopped writing it as an adaptation of the cartoon, as far as artistic merit is concerned.

Woohoo!! My book came! It's sooo kewl to see all my fave characters in B&W (Ninjara, Mezcaal, the Mutanimals, ect).

But has anybody else gotten a sig on the envelope it came in??? I was about to throw it away when I noticed it had a waay kewl drawing of Raph with the words "Best Wishes!" under it. I don't recognize the signature under Best Wishes tho... the initials are B and R (Roq? ).

When I finished reading this, I didn't see Dreamland as fun as Future Tense. The TMNT seemed to be each on their own things through thier own company building, which isn't so different then TMNT Vol 4 issues in that sense. But they can still get together and handle things. Ralphs in a relationship. Leo has a student squad. The end was neat with Donatello fixing up his former buddy to handle the end of the world problem. The brain stuff was weird to the overall story IMO. Was it like a drug for aliens so they can dream? Hitler's brain going to his own past was sort of neat. I guess it had a sorta don't mess up the past or the future is screwed dillemma. The TMNT cyber suits was cool. I guess to me the FT trade just showed bits when there seems to be more in between already told. So the second story was ok for me but nothing compared to the first story, 'cause that one made things so neat. I liked how the MM #7 issue had relevance to the FT story arc. Armaggon and Merdude (can't remember the names) showed up again from that issue. Still I'd like to see more maybe of these books.

There are indeed more relevant issues throughout the series.

Issues 35 and 36 (which are before the Shark trilogy issues) reintroduce Shredder after his absence for 10 or so issues, as well as Verminator X and the Stones of Mecca.

55-57, and some back up stories in the issues prior to those, focused on the future Turtles coming back to present day to help the Mutanimals.

While these issues aren't essential, per se, they're fun stories. (Of course, since we don't have the Forever War arc yet, who can say what's essential?)

You know, looking through the TPB again today and comparing it with the original comic, I noticed something I hadn't before. In the TPB, the scene where Hitler shoots himself has his blood pouring down into the ground, and the white panel where he does the deed also has blood. However, when you go back to the original books, none of the blood is actually there; it's been covered up by the coloring process.

Yes, you can thank Archie for that. Same as when the Mutanimals are slain on the beach, laying in pools of black fluid. Creative team's intention was that it be red blood.

It'd be great if the rights to publish TMNTA/Mutanimals ever got freed from its mire of legal red tape and company mandates and received the proper collected editions they deserve. I don't see it happening, but it'd be great.

I always thought the Mutanimal's mutated blood was black, since it was rather plain what the fluid was intended to be.

Barry Grossman (Archie's colorist) did the same thing during Future Raph's flashback at the beginning of the Future Shark Trilogy:

He colored the blood black instead of red.

I never had trouble accepting it as blood and I never thought that their blood was "black". I just accepted it as a concession to TMNT Adventure's being a children's comic, and that if we were going to have blood at all, it needed to be a different color.

Yeah, fingers crossed.

I know IDW seems to be good at getting the old comics collected in trades. Maybe they can get the rights someday.

I keep thinking they'd be good for the TMNT reprints too. Those tome reprint books of John Byrnes Next Men in B&W shows what a Mirage TMNT trades could be like from them. IDW seems so much into the licensed stuff and just as Dark Horse, Boom Studios and Dynamite Ent. are doing with such properties.

Dark Horse would be pretty sweet too. They've been releasing all those omnibuses the last few years of Alien, Predator, Buffy, Star Wars,etc...
