Finally got around to my submission... Drawn on a piece of scrap paper, with a National Guard pencil, a Nintex free ink pen, and colored in Photoshop...



I think I am gonna have to vote for Pizza Face this time around for the next contest...

Didn't have to much time, filled to the brim with homework still, so I made a color pencil drawing. I might try to get one more in.

The turtle sign on the back makes me think of Goku's shirt from Dragon Ball! XD

Sorry it is kinda bland, I only had a few crayolas pencils in my backpack when I was on my bus drawing it.

I almost didn't manage this month. Slash refused to pose properly and we ended up having words. After a dozen pages worth of sketches, we compromised with a bland pose I could practice digital coloring on. However, the computer with Photoshop has a really crappy monitor so I end up with levels like this. *heavy sigh because it's too early to start punching things*

Is there anyway to make an exclusive poll? Where only the people who have commented/contributed to the last 4 challenges can vote? Other people who just speculate are voting without leaving feedback or participating and its making us draw lame characters.

I voted for Maligna, myself. Like Lord Dregg, I think alien warlords have potential if done proper.

I voted for Maligna too, aswell as Dregg in the last poll. The thing with April & Irma is, they're humans. In the case of April's redesign challenge, out of the tons of entries, you, myself, & Ulisses were the only ones to truly re-design her... ya know, taking Casey's role, being a robot, or an utrom. With the rest it was simply a change of clothes, basically (no disrespect to any of ya, the art is still quality work). Thats plain ol' boring. With crazy mutants & the like you can really go all out! If irma wins its just gonna be the same thing.

Ha! I heard that (just didn't want to say it myself).

I guess with Irma the situation is a bit different than April, since April has been done at least five or six official ways as it is (computer programmer, reporter, antique store owner, ninja in training, descendant of the mystical despot May East, etc.), wheres Irma has only been done once by the Fred Wolf cartoon (or twice if you also count the dolled up manga special). I think there is room for innovation with Irma, just not sure how much.

But, yeah, I feel like the danger of these challenge events is that the emphasis focuses more upon the technical quality of the art itself rather than the creativity of the actual redesign concept.

YES.

Kali in April's case (it was immaculate though just a new outfit, please take no offense).

& likely Tigerfog this time around (You're a beast when it comes to digitial coloring but... it looks just like regular ol' slash to me).

I hope you two don't mind me calling you out, but hey think of it as an inverse compliment- you two are the most artistically gifted in here lol...

Ideas to surpass it? Like public voting or restrain the voting to the social group?

I would like this to be something to everyone, not just for an Elite, but I have the same concern... great characters get surpassed by lame ones...

I will have to think about this... and like always I´m open to hear any suggestion.

*rolls eyes* Really, if I had a dime for every contest I was in where the most creative, imaginative works were overlooked for *teh pretty!* I wouldn't be looking for a job right now. And in my opinion, it is the "lame" characters that need the redesigning and the four done so far were some of the last characters who needed that redesigning.

But as long as we're airing out, my only complaint is that any text that goes along with the picture, such as backstory, isn't included in the voting. For me, a character design and redesign includes non-physical traits as well, a full development, even though I know this isn't a writing contest, and I don't want it to become one. Just speaking for myself, I usually design around what would make a better story. Others want to go as extreme as they can. Both are valid visions.

The word "redesign" is going to inspire different people differently, and unless you limit voting to one person/a small panel with guidelines for what they're looking for, that's always going to be an issue. (That's NOT a suggestion, by the way. Don't do that.)

I'm very much in agreement here, Kali. The last two character redesigns I've done have been an attempt to create a rough backstory. The biggest reason I voted for your April redesign was not simply your excellent style, but the fact that you were trying to integrate the OT and NT character history. Wonder Dookie Dan is doing similar things over at his blog. To me, that is the best kind of redesign, as opposed to just flashy fan art.
