Or do you mean that they wouldn't settle for a modest profit rather than the next BIG thing? To be realistic, I've never heard of anything close to being a blockbuster that had anything to do with Nick. That's not to say they can't surprise us. I just don't count on it.
Pretty much what you said in your second part. TMNT made a profit, got another film greenlighted, but wasn't by any means a blockbuster. I feel a lot of this had to do with the story, but I think we have pretty much covered this topic fully in the TMNT thread.

And while no Nick hasn't had many blockbuster films under their belt Paramount has and it's always a possibility.

I am just trying to stay hopeful until I am given reason not to be anymore.

A thread on this board maybe 7-8 months back. It was a big news item around here.

Probably the same reason TMNT Part 4 was -- it was contractually obligated to be PG.

Which is crazy.

Murphy said the movies had to be PG so they could sell toys in MCDonalds or Burger King happy meals.

Hiring TV writers to do a movie script? Doesn't bode well. If MI 4 turns out any good I'll be pretty surprised. Either way that'd be the only feature they've written. I think the film should be written Star Trek style where a non-fan views the whole franchise for the first time and then writes a script based on what they pull from it.

That's a load of BS. Transformers had Burger King toys.

Not completely, but CyberCubed had his info wrong. TMNT had to be PG so that they could have a toy deal with McDonald's, which will only do toy deals for PG and under movies. Burger King, however, will give toy/promotion deals to PG-13 movies.

Well, that deal was for the 2007 movie, under the [sarcasm]brilliant business leadership of Gary Richardson[/sarcasm]. Paramount, presumably, has the freedom to not be so blindly driven by a few extra dollars from a fast food chain.

No. There probably is no deal for the new movie yet because it's not even written.

How in the hell are we supposed to know? I would assume so though, as this is supposed to be Paramount's next Transformers.

Dude, you realize Star Trek was written by "TV writers", right?

Both Orci and Kurtzman wrote for "Alias" and such masterpieces as "Hercules" and "Xena", not to mention the critically acclaimed Bruce Campbell series "Jack of All Trades". More recently, "Fringe" and "Hawaii Five-O".

A writer is a writer, a script is a script. The biggest constraints with either is time and budget limitations.

To be fair I doubt PG-13 would have made TMNT 2007 a much better movie, the problem with the film isn't that its too kiddy. And the McDonalds deal probably did help more people watch the movie in reality, too bad the toys were absolute trash.

I don't think the movie is in development hell, more likely it was moved from 2012 because of the competition, we will get a TMNT film sooner rather than later even if the whole production is a mess. I'll take sig bets, new movie comes out by 2014 or you can have my sig for a year! It only takes 2 years for the bet to pay off!

BTW the transformers toys were for the animated show not the actual movie IIRC.
