I'm sure many of us have had that exact thought. But then we have to pinch ourselves and wake up.

Too bad, though.

Just saying, Rise of the Planet of the Apes had a budget of 93 million dollars: http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=riseoftheapes.htm

Full motion-capture for the Turtles and Splinter can be achieved no problem on 100 million. Where the Wild Things Are looked bad, IMO. Their faces were very well done, to be fair, but the body movement was horrid. They all moved like Big Bird. They just looked like men in clunky suits, which is what they were.

So excited for this! And I find that a very interesting time to release it and with the cold weather I will have the perfect excuse to stop into the theater and see it a few times

Holding off my opinion on pretty much everything else until I actually see something

Honestly, I think putting TMNT up against The Hobbit 2 is foolish, for sure. The Hobbit is going to be huge. I don't see Superman and Wolverine as a bigger threat than The Hobbit...

I am just hoping one get's released towards the start of the month and the other towards the end. That way the wealth can be spread out a little bit more between them. At least hopefully Turtles and Hobbit should be close to it for action/ effect films at the time hopefully, since Harry Potter's done and I think after the last film Narnia is pretty dead in the water and those were the only other Holiday franchises I cant think of.

Good thing is that films that come out in December have the strongest holds. In a lot of ways, its one of the best times to release a movie. If the budget of TMNT is a mere 100 million, you can bet your life that this is sure to spawn a very lucrative franchise. The TMNT brand still holds a lot of weight around the world.

Here's the IGN report: http://movies.ign.com/articles/122/1220708p1.html

Nothing of note other than this sh*t-head's comment:

I agree. Personally, I'm much more likely to see several movies in the course of a month if the weather is cold. I normally only catch one or two movies in the cinema during summer.

If they can make a sin city movie like the graphic novel why not tmnt ?
I've been calling for a TMNT DTV animated movie (in the same vein of the DC animated flicks) based on TMNT #1. Glad to see there are other who would like to see something like it.

....well, maybe some of us will grow to be working in the movie business and have a pinch at it someday...I mean wasn't there an incredible example for something that would have rocked big time but it wouldn't see production and then some fans got together and knocked it out of the park...hmmm what was that again?...oh yeah, I got it:it was the mother****ing incredible image issues 24 and 25!!!!!!

I was so excited when this was going to be the 25th Anniversary DVD. The idea of having the actual first issue as an animated movie seemed to good to be true. And like they say if it sounds to good to be true it is. As we saw it didn't happen. I'd love to see it happen someday though.

Then again one day I'd love to actually see Eastman and Laird's main story done as a set of DTVs. I think having their story as they originally told it would be amazing.

That said I know that isn't what this new movie will be. However I'm still excited to see the TMNT on the big screen again. I'm going to hold off trying to guess what we will see for the moment. Whatever it is I hope they spend the time and energy to give us something that old fans and new can both enjoy.

The thing is. If they make a damn good dark and gritty move with some Sin City style. It'll bring so many more people to the comic series and maybe even spur up some new ones.

I actually think a Sin City style TMNT movie would have the same reaction as the last movie: "WTF? No Krang? Where's Bebop and Rocksteady? And the Shredder was missing, too! I wanted to see the Technodrome!"

I feel like you have to start small for villains. Say shredder and the foot clan. Then maybe in a sequel add shredder testing the mutagen on a warthog and rhino.

Sadly, as much as i love krang. It may be too far fetched. But i'm no writer.

Oh, you mean to the 30-35 year olds who are long, long out of the target demographic of films of this sort?

As much as I'd like the new movies to not draw from the OT but from the comics I fear that's what we will see. I've come to accept that with Nick that Bebop and Rocksteady will be playing a much larger role in things then I'd like.

That said I'd like to see something that isn't a direct formula of the first two movies.

Yeah, the adults who would be the target mature audience of a serious and dark Ninja Turtles film. The same ones who would bitch that stuff from the OT wasn't present.

You're really not seeing the bigger picture.

A super successful TMNT movie in 2012 (or 2013, or 2014, or whatever it ends up being) cannot be "for" any existing faction of the fandom. It will not become a blockbuster on any sort of virtue of "nostalgia," be it for guys like me who only find a lot of merit in the source material or the clusters of people who replay Fred Wolf episodes every couple of weeks or so.

It needs to be provocative and exciting for brand new viewers in modern demographics that make quirky martial arts actioners successful. And focus group limiting things to what children of a certain age are supposed to like is falling into the same age-old trap that a lot of would-be franchise makers fall into. C'mon, think back a bit. Kids aren't entirely stupid... when they're kind of told "This sort of thing is what you should be watching," they kind of become hip to it. They resist it. Kids like to know they're watching something with a bit of an edge, something a bit above what society tells them is above the cut of their jib... it's what makes it provocative.

And we're not talking about an R-rated Turtles movie... I'm talking about a pretty hardcore PG-13 Turtles movie that would strike a perfect balance of demographic vs. faithfulness to the source material, something that's never been tried before.
