To add on to what Powder said. It's a coincidence that both of them have antagonistic roles, are feline characters and have eyepatches. (though Hob's is on the right, while TC's is on the left) It's as much of a coincidence as Red Skull from Marvel and Black Mask from DC.

You're thinking of Newtralizer, as far as Ciro's childhood character goes.

But yeah, they're both original characters and have absolutely nothing in common beyond a few superficial physical parallels.

Yeah, I'm fairly sure both characters were carried over from his youth, but I dunno where I read/heard that. Might've been NYCC's 2013 TMNT panel.

Man if deviantart existed in the 80's you would be able to look up Ciro's Newtralizer and Tiger Claw OC's when he was a teenager and say, "Hey, look at the fanart character who became an official TMNT character a decade later."

I can't decide if using an OC you created as a child for an official product is charming or cringeworthy...

One one hand it is kind of cool for the person doing it, since it lets them make their childhood imagination come to life and I get the appeal for doing that. On the other hand you should remember that TMNT is not Ciro's own creation, so pointlessly shoehorning in new characters (especially characters based on childhood drawings) just comes across as something out of really bad fan fiction...

Not all fan fiction is bad. For that matter, neither are all OC's. I've seen some really amazing ones, in both categories, and yes, a few real stinkers, too. but I've also seen some incredible re-imaginings of canon characters in fan fiction that were actually BETTER than the original versions. (*cough* Venus *cough*)

As an example, Ed Greenwood, the creator of the Forgotten Realms novel and game world, began with a simple story about a character that he wrote when he was only 9. He kept writing stories about both that original character, and many others he created over the years. The original character's name? Mirt the Moneylender, who went on to become one of the most well-known (and most loved) characters in that entire setting! While he WAS the creator of that world, others have since also contributed characters and stories to that shared world, including Drizzt Do'Urden, Danilo Thann, and many others who have all become staples of that world. So it hardly matters WHO or WHEN the creating came from. What matters is whether it's GOOD.

True, but EVERY new version of a series needs OCs too. Look at everyone complaining that all they're doing is rehashing 80's character, after 80's character after 80's character. Maybe Tiger Claw and Newtralizer are childhood characters, but they're cool. We also got Fishface and Rahzar (I don't really consider anything about him related to the previous Rahzar. All he has is the name. It's like calling Pigeon Pete 'Koya'. Nothing in common at all) which were both entertaining for a while.

^Plus is really self-pandering if most of them are going to be toys meant for 10 year olds that was designed by a 10 year old or is it a brilliant marketing move?

Well I'm not saying there isn't a need for new characters but I don't see much point to Tiger Claw. After a season and a half of having this character around, the most character development he has had is thinking Shredder has crappy priorities. So unless they can figure out something to do with him, I'm not going care about him.

And no, in case someone is going to argue this, having a mysterious past and cool gadgets does not make a boring character any less boring.

This is more then true. This is the same problem with Hun to many 90% of the Shredder's henchmen. Most of them are just physical obstacles to being the guys who are...just there saying one liners.

Season 1 with Bradford and Xever was something interesting and although it was most of the time it was just them bickering over stupid ****, but what it made it interesting was that they had clearly came from different backgrounds with Bradford being pompous and privilege, and Xever being a skeevy street rat.

I could say with Baxter Stockman. Before he became baxterfly, he was more a character but after the mutation, he become more stock then character because now he is just a guy that makes creepy stuff in the basement and although it's a least something that stands out but it's a huge step back to what he was before.

I really hope they do something with Bebop and Rocksteady because these two are only ones that clearly hates Shredder's guts but are still kind of scumbags themselves. These two have so much potential.

The only thing I'm really anxious to see is who his rival is. Maybe the kraang mutated a bunch of cats decades ago & his rival is also some kind cat mutant(Old Hob). I actually hope it ends up being Usagi Yojimbo, it would make sense if they keep Usagi as samurai like in OT.

But Usagi belongs to another property. The only reason Stan Sakai had allowed the use of Miyamoto Usagi was because he was friends with Peter Laired.
