Finished up my Image issues tonight.

I really wonder where Gary was heading with the adverse effects the mutagen would have eventually had on the Turtles?

It is the longest running plot thread throughout the entire series that was never given proper chance to be explored.

In Leatherhead's case it was making him regress and more savage, but in the TMNT's case I guess you can say it extended their life spans?

True, but Gary explicitly mentions that the mutagen's breakdown causing LH's regression "would have terrible implications for our Turtle boys too". Plus, Don's living armor mentioned to Leo that the mutagen present in Don's body gave it sentience.

It may not have been a story that may not have been explored for several years, after all Leatherhead is older than the Turtles, but Gary made it seem as if it would have been an issue he would have touched on later on down the road.

Yeah, there were certainly hints as to where that may or may not have been going. I'm not sure it would have been a compatible plot thread with the Mirage stuff that came later, though...

A "the mutagen in our bloods is destablizing" story would be pretty cool just the same. I guess the resolution to that would just be the Turtles reaching out to the Utroms or vice versa and the Utroms restabilizing them all. I think Gary was planning a mini space quest down the line, but I'm not sure on that one.

Aw man, that sounds so awesome!

Reading through the series, it seemed to be the longest running plotline and what would have probably lead into something pretty epic both in scale and storytelling. Taking something so vital to the Turtles as the very thing that gives there being essence, a toxic byproduct created by the Utroms, is rather groundbreaking material in terms of character development.

Damn, I want Gary and Frank to do the Turtles again more and more every day.

I enjoyed Mr. Weasel and the whole cyborg Don thing is awesome. Raph as Shredder, that was cool, it was only fitting Raph would lead the foot. I could go on about this series, ya just got to read it to see it...

My favorite gag was when Lurch turned into a female turtle, an obvious jab at Venus from the Next Mutation, which was airing at the same time the Image series was coming out.

Hilarious. Its funny how back in 1997/1998, we had an extremely cheesy live-action TV show yet the darkest comics at the same time. Talk about polarizing.
