Which catch-phrase do you prefer, Cowabunga or Booyakasha

I don't think you have to worry, I don't think kids are gonna even be able to figure out if they're saying it right, which is another problem with it. It's clumsy and unnatural.

I like both also. In all fairness, Booyakasha is a lot less established so its an unfair comparison IMO.

I much prefer the catch-phrase "Cowabunga". Just as a word and how it's used I've always liked it, but "Booyakasha" sounds odd. I'll get over it, I'm sure, but it sounds like such an odd term to replace it. I don't have a problem with "Cowabunga" being replaced, it's just the word that they're using isn't, in my opinion anyway, the best choice.

It's not random gibberish, and it's not booyasha. It's booyakasha.
Booyakasha, also booyaka, also booya, is (from a combination of what I can find and what I know) a slang word likely originating in the Caribbean, possibly Jamaica, and gaining some popularity as street slang in the US around the 1980s (and gaining a much wider spread in the 2000s through Sacha Baron Cohen's "Da Ali G Show"). It's almost certainly derived from onomatopoeia of a gunshot echoing, although it's usually used to express approval or enjoyment.

In the sense that it became popular through a different TV show, it's kind of similar to Cowabunga. I think that came from something like "Kawabonga", which was from Howdy Doody or something. I guess Ali G is the new Howdy Doody.

But as to the OP question, I don't really have a preference. Cowabunga made sense in the 80's. Surfers were saying it then. It was a thing. These days, Cowabunga is mostly associated with the Turtles, so nobody really says it in reference to anything else anymore. Booyakasha, in a sense, is the new cowabunga. It's a thing people say in sort of the same context. But I hope they don't end up over-using it the same way the '87 show over-used cowabunga. Catchphrases in general are kind of played out.

I prefer cowabunga, but I will openly admit that it's because of nostalgia. Maybe booyakasha will grow on me, but it's just an awkward word to say.
