In the meantime, a bit of trivia for you (and an answer to your question). I was inspired to bring Koya into the mix after I found this amazing fable online:

http://zeluna.net/japanese-fairy-tal...dedfalcon.html

We were planning on creating a new mutant eventually, and this was the story that gave me the idea to turn Shredder's feathery pet into our newest baddie. All design credit goes to Ross Campbell, though, and what an awesome design it is!

Talk soon…

Awesome! Thanks again,Mr. Waltz! Also, for clarification on is Koya a hawk or falcon.

Maybe I'm strange but I honestly feel like this was one of the best issues of the entire book. Aside from loving where Ross has settled style-wise, I loved this number because of its focus. It had one setting, one cast. I'm so sick of the typical format where it goes back and forth with different groups and scenarios every two pages, that pacing irks me to no end. Here we finally get to take a breath, and actually talk about things instead of grazing over them. It's a blessing to have something mellow and text-heavy, that has depth without being melodramatic or cliche. It didn't feel like a written for trade issue for once. As I said in the beginning of my post, now that Ross seems to have found his groove with his version of the IDW turtles, I'm really really digging it. The character designs for April & Casey are particularly nice (as Vegeta said, it's nice to see her lookin' thick, too). I liked his Leonardo issue, but in all honesty, it fell a little flat for me in comparison to his past work and assorted fan art pieces. This, however, man... I want him to be the main artist, period. I love Mateus' work, I REALLY do, but I feel like it's just a little too commercial for the turtles, personally. Everything about their past books has always screamed indie, and so I've been a bit put off by the "big 2"-esque art... Ross really gives it that underground feel, despite how polished it is. It doesn't conform to industry standards, where all humans have this same comic booky face & such. It's unique, and soft, but still packs a punch. & I hope neither RC or MS take offense should they see these comments, I adore them both. Anyway, really really solid stuff here.

man i LOVED this book! this is going to be a great arch. i agree with powder that it is refreshing to see a more mellow issue/arch that is rich in story and depth after the last action packed arch (which was also amazing!). the art is amazing. i love April's new look and am just thrilled in general

I liked this issue too. It did feel a little short for some reason--but maybe all comics do. Personally I'm a much bigger fan of character development than action. I enjoyed the first 5 or 6 issues of IDW where there was lots of talking--and I'm glad there has been talking moments throughout, because books feel way too short if they are all action.

I love Campbell's art. I can see how the detail Santolouco provides looks more "mainstream," and I prefer his humans, whereas Campbell's art is almost "cute," but I like that although Campbell draws the Turtles with different builds, they don't look too different. They looked too unequal with Santolouco and Mike's buckteeth were practically ruining the comic for me.

I am seriously worried about Alopex ending up with one of the Turtles though. I'd rather they stay single. Their in-family interactions are not fully developed yet.

It's fun that Raph is developing into the pissy turtle we all remember, but Don has lost his IDW edge! I hope it returns.

I loved this issue! While I prefer Santolouco's art I think Ross Campbell's is perfect for the issue. One question about April: does anyone really still wear top pony tails like that??

I didn't expect to be so damn intrigued by the end of this issue. I'm going to be wondering all month how April's parents and Stockgen tie in to everything

You really can't beat the action sequences drawn by Santolouco, or Bates, but Campbell's art carries so much more emotion that so far his style fits the somber unsteady nature of the story that's being told.

This issue was a breath of fresh air...not that City-Fall was bad, it was just so tense and fastpaced.

It's been a while since I participated in comic discussion, but I just read this issue and I wanted to come in and say that I loved it!

I like the character development with Alopex, and seeing Leo have to overcome his brainwashing. Campbell nailed it on Splinter's expression after Leonardo's comment. I really felt for the poor rat.

I really liked the way April was drawn in this issue. It's good to see that it wasn't just my imagination that she was drawn to be curvy. It's nice to see that April has a different body type than the average comic book girl. I hope any future artists on the book stick with April being a little heavier. It reminds me of the Invincible comic where Atom Eve gained some weight. I almost expected Mrs. O'Neil to point it out.

I also liked the little details, like the way April is pressing her toes down on the floor during the meeting with her parents. Maybe she's supposed to be a little nervous with how her parents meeting meeting Casey goes? It was a good way to express emotion through the character's body language.

Can't wait until part 2!

This book has became a must read, it feels like you guys have struck your groove and are moving away from the typical "Hey guys, heres another TMNT character from the past were updating".

While thats fun, this issue really sucked me into the characters and drama that you have been amazingly crafting. Just when I think you guys are hitting the bottom of the well, you keep coming up with more gold for us to cherish!

Keep it going, this is in my must read for anyone out there.

Great observation I thought Ross nailed it on character's facial expressions!

I also agree with Raven, The series is really hitting its stride.

Loved this issue! Really great stuff, I really loved Campbell s art as everybody says it really fits the story. I like what he' s done with April reminds me of what Ryan Ottley did on Invincible when he made Adam Eve thicker, I think it gives a more realistic depiction of varying body types. I cant wait for Santolouco's return but this is some good work from Campbell. I cant wait to see what Aprils mom has to say about Mr. O'Neil's time working at stockgen. Really looking forward to the focus on Mikey next issue, I also the #30 has the best cover of the entire series so far with #28 running a close second .

I've always liked the art on the IDW books, but this past issue has the best design for April O'Neil. I'd like to see it as an aspect of IDW's April O'Neil, that she's a little "bottom heavy". It doesn't have to get brought up all the time, but it finally gives her a distinct look.

It's kind of getting me thinking, there are so many different versions of April over the years, why not one that's plus sized? They tried it out with Invincible's girlfriend in that comic, and it was interesting to see a character with a different body type than the usual superheroine.

I also think that this issue is the best April O'Neil has been drawn in the series so far. I hope they stick with the "pear shape" she had in this issue.

Got a wee bit carried away. I guess I was really interested in getting other 'Dromer's opinions on it.

I meant in the context of the story, like they don't necessarily have to have to make it a constant soapbox thing on April being full figured and proud.

I love a full figured April, as well as a black April as Eastman originally intended it. But I barely noticed that she was full figured.. she just looks normal to me!

They got April pushing 150. Looking good AF. Thick thighs an booty. Mmmm. Nice way to slow down the series let other things develop and put them in a setting where anything can happen...but I just have a feeling come summer time *kevin hart voice* "its about to go down".

I don't post very much in the forums but this issue really made me want to come on here and let Tom know how much I enjoyed it. I was sorta let down by city fall...It didn't really have the emotional weight I was hoping for and it just felt like a bunch of things happening for no real reason and there wasn't much city falling going on. I was beginning to think this book had lost me. But not now. I'm back on board and can't wait for issue 30! And I hope Ross stays around for a while. I think he is my favorite TMNT artist ever.
