True. I've learned in my brief stint of 3D animation that organic modeling is a more complex/longer process than hard surface modeling, especially when it's time to render. Then again, it also depends on how fast and how many hours these animation studios are putting in to get the job done efficiently. If we're going with Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes for turtles, we can most likely expect that they're gonna try to go top notch with skin and body modeling/subdivisions, texturing, cloth simulation, UV lighting, rigging the character models, etc. Let's not forget hair simulation for the Master Splinter we have yet to see.

On the other hand, hard surface models like Transformers can prove to be just as difficult as organic ones like TMNT considering what we've seen in the previous TF movies already. I remember hearing in the behind the scenes for TF1 that one of the Autobot models consisted of about 10,000-30,000 individual modeled pieces. Rigging a Transformer with this many parts (making the skeleton) seems like a way longer process than mutant turtle. TMNT will probably have nowhere near that many individual modeled pieces, but perhaps a higher polygon count which slows down the rendering process drastically. Not only do they have to create characters, but CG environments too (if needed).

Motion capture, animation, and rendering is an entirely different process in itself. It all really depends on how hard these studios are working.

Would love to see TMNT detailed to this extent, in another setting of course:

Didn't see this thread when I replied in the other one. To repeat:

"Total vote of no-confidence on the part of the studio. You can tell a lot about how they view their product by when they choose to release it (for example, any horror movie worth anything comes out before Halloween, while any and every horror film released in February is always garbage).

It's smart thinking on their part. TMNT would get MURDERED going against Transformers 4 and the others the article mentions. Plus, since shooting wrapped seemingly so quickly, it would seem that more of it than we thought may be CGI, so it's going to require a lengthy editing and post-production process.

Bottom line, if they really believed they had a blockbuster, they'd release it alongside them, not a month later when they'll have no competition. The movie's bottom line will be better for it, but the move DOES expose that they're still crossing their fingers and hoping for the best with this one."

Also, I completely understand hoping for the best and not wanting to judge things before they're finished. I do. But I'm an analytical sort of person, one who ponders things from all angles, investigates, speculates, tries to predict the end result of this, that and the other... it's just fun for me. I have no vested emotional stake in this movie turning out good or bad. I'm simply of the opinion it will be not so hot, based on everything we know so far. And despite what some of the cockeyed optimists say, we DO have enough facts to get at least a preliminary idea of where the bar for this movie is, and it's low.

That's called "making a preliminary supposition based on facts and evidence;" That's entirely different from "rooting for something to fail". Let me also state, that being overwhelmingly positive about something in spite of all evidence is just as wrong, and irritating, as being overwhelmingly negative about something. Furthermore, this movie may "succeed" at being, as some have speculated, "Goofy dumb fun that's great if you shut your brain off." That's 100% what I'm expecting. That's also still called "A Bad Movie" by any objective, completely unbiased definition. And since we've gotten more than that from TMNT in the past, I was hoping we'd get more than that this time, too.

If it does turn out to be much better than expected, I imagine many of us doubters will be more than happy to recant our positions, while still maintaining that it wasn't perfect and there were indeed things wrong with it. Which isn't "hating"; more like the "I love you but I'm not IN love with you" kinda deal.

It can be a month for surprise hits, though.

Month of release has nothing to do with movie quality. Writing, directing, acting, etc. does. Not that I'm expecting a whole lot from Platinum Dunes, but I don't think this is a reason to be a Chicken Little.

True, Guardians of the Galaxy is opening on week before the new TMNT. Marvel Studios put it there cause, They know they cannot compete against Transformers 4. So it was wise for them to put it in the beginning of August, Paramount putting the new TMNT in August was a wise decision because, when you compare Transformers to the TMNT, Transformers is a much bigger property with a huge merchandising push behind it. Putting the new TMNT in August against a new Marvel property will give it a better chance. After all you have two movies with talking anthropomorphic animals in it. So its a win win for both.

Guardians is the biggest gamble that Marvel has taken so far. I think it's great and I can't wait to see those characters, but it's not like the title is a household name. Turtles have been successful for a few decades, I'm betting the Turtles will gross more. Even though I probably want it to bomb so the property can't be touched by Michael Bay ever again.

I am slightly upset it has been pushed back 2 months because I was hoping for a trailer by November/December but I guess it gives them for time to perfect the CGI.

I just hope we get a sneak peak at the turtles by years end.

I hope Guardians is a success. Anything that breaks the mold of a typical superhero movie.

I hope they don't keep pushing it back. Sometimes these movies take FOREVER. God I hope it's decent.

TMNT now has the 8th of August all to themselves, as Universal blinked first and moved their Dracula reboot to October. Basically, TMNT will more than likely be the number one film that week, unless GOTG is an exceptional breakout hit.

It’s taken from a short article posted on Deadline Hollywood. It doesn't mention the TMNT thing, that was me. However, I find it hard to believe that that didn't factor into Universal's thinking somewhat.

Nathan Rabin's a damned good journalist. It'd be nice to have official confirmation, but I'm inclined to believe this is legit.

How the shell can they do rewrites on a film that's been in post production for months?

There are always reshoots. And if this is true, it's not a good sign. It means they're putting together the movie and realizing that it sucks, so this would be a last ditch effort to "save" it.

Yep, in World War Z they rewrote and completely changed the 3rd act of the movie after viewing the original cut of the film.

Not a good sign if this is true although the rewrite could lead to a better movie.
