Wow, can someone post those pages?

"Insane in the Membrane" was really disturbing... Baxter's face, his finger falling off, the horrible screaming, him hallucinating that April was his mother... *shudders*

I think these are the pages that were mentioned, from TMNT Adv #59:

There are a few preceding pages of Mikey being interrogated, but you can get the gist from these: nothing is shown on-panel, but the pain he's in and the ruthlessness of the work is pretty clear.

That honestly is a terrifying example of 'break the cutie'. Mikey would have stopped being the cheerful surfer dude after all that. Blinded, tortured, and soon thereafter de-mutated back to a normal turtle while still being self-aware the whole time. ouch dude. Just ouch.

I think I was about 10 or so when that arc came out and I absolutely loved it. Up to that point it was as dark as I'd ever seen TMNT go.

This entire arc was fascinating to me, pretty much because I had only known the 80s cartoon prior, though I got into the 2k3 series later. To me, this version went very dark compared to what I was used to but I never thought it went too far, at least not at this point. The thing I found most interesting about this arc was that after all that crap that Mikey is put through...he still chooses to save the life of his tormentor.

Yeah, I thought it was an important moment in showing the moral difference between the "Good Guys" and the "Bad Guys". I really enjoy the Archie series.

He was at a certain point defeated, blown mostly apart and forgotten about. Fast forward a few years, in Donatello: The Brain Thief mini series, we come to find Donny took the remains of Baxter (who we see is still fully conscious) and kept him in a basement for years. He was just held captive there, given little to no stimulation, nailed to a wall. Later in the books Donny carelessly kills a stray dog 'for science' and starts rearranging cockroaches body parts giving them cybernetic add-ons & such. It's just... creepy.

So there's a full dose of spooky stuff! Lets hear some more!
I've seen a lot of fanart around that depicts Donnie as a psychopathic mad scientist, most famously in the fan comic TMNT Gaiden. I came upon it so often I wondered if the idea had been inspired by past comics. I guess I have my answer now. I also recall people mentioning how Donnie's other comic incarnations were very hateful and bitter towards humanity; a far cry from the gentle-natured Donatello from the 2003 series.

Now that I think about it, his darker side seems to be hinted at in the Nick series, with his stalkerish behaviour towards April. Brrr.

I wouldn't say he's hateful, just kind of a loner in some respects. As for Gaiden, I believe that fan-comic predates the storyarc in which it was revealed Donnie had secret science projects.

Wow. Can someone post the rest of this? Leo's and Don's smackdown, and Mikey's conversation and aftermath?

Jumping back to Powder's original post there, I think he may be misremembering parts of the Brain Thief mini-series, unless he's referring to some other event.

Dontello fights a sentient bit of Baxter's cyborg body that assimilates cockroaches, and, later, Don is forced to sacrifice a dog to it in order to get it to take on its form (where he solves the problem by telling it to "stay" interminably in a blocked-off part of the sewers). He shows a lot of distress over that last part.

The Baxter thing is absolutely messed up, though, and is portrayed as such.

I think Baxter's mutation in 2k12 is pretty disturbing and twisted.

He's defenseless with a mutagen collar around his neck, and can't do anything about it. Watch the mini canisters breaks and he whimpers and groans helplessly in the dark, alone. The way he cries, clasping his face with his palm in the final scene is really sad and sympathetic.

Boy, am I late to the party. At first I wasn't sure what I could add that hasn't already been mentioned, but I did just recall that part in Leonardo Cuts Loose where that exercise machine had Don, Mike and Raph all pinned down; which has always freaked me out a little, especially when Raphael screamed "Let go of me!!!" It felt like something out of a bad snuff film.

Actually, it's like this, right?

Raph tries to kill Mikey in Mirage.

Raph tries to kill Mikey in 2k3.

Raph tries to kill Leo in Mirage (he threw Leo through a barn wall, and that could have killed him if he hit his head just right)

Raph tries to kill Leo in 2007 movie.

Raph tries to kill Casey in 2012.

The single most disturbing thing in the entire story? That the *creator* of the character, as well as of the entire TMNT universe, actually thought that was a logical, necessary story to tell. He thought it was good, and by telling it, it's implicit that this was always where April's story was meant to go, and I for one refuse to accept it, because it's horrible. Clearly, though, we're meant to accept it, because he wrote it and charged us 4 bucks for he privilege of reading it.

I'm 100% convinced the "April is a drawing" storyline was the end result of all the acid Laird ("allegedly") took in college. It's the only logical explanation: Major league flashback horror show. That sh*t never really leaves your brain, you know, it just kinda floats around in there which is why people have flashbacks. Don't do drugs, kids.
Yeah. Exactly. Is it wrong that I felt Laird was lashing out at the fans with this? It was so pointless and, well awful to treat a character this way.

I was only able to read part of this story ark... Wish I could have read the whole thing.... I loved every page I did get to read... I don't guess there is any place online where these can be read is there?
