"Immaturity"

My mom is VERY controlling. Seriously, on occasion she will see me in my room, minding my own business and playing with my 1980's tmnt (who now have a better shredder figure to face off against, thank you Skabbz) but she'll roll her eyes with disgust at me if she sees me god forbid- playing with my toys.
I'm already 16, so I should have my Learner's license right? So of course I ask my parents to take me tot he DMV. What does mom say? "You can do it, when you've learned some maturity, I mean, you still play with toys!"
Now, correct me if I'm wrong but since when did playing with toys have anything to do with driving? Is it wrong to go ahead and play with stuff I already own? I'm not hurting anyone and for me it's a private thing. Plus it shouldn't be mom's business what I do with my own money so long as it is within legal range. I am in gifted classes and last year I passed with A's and B's. Obviously I'm mature enough to pay attention in class right? I honestly don't see what the problem is.

by the way, you can call me "bob" since Kitsune doesn't really fit in the Kyle's Mom song

Yeah my parents use to get after me but then they realized that I wasn't listening to them and still did what i wanted with my room. I also graduated from college and I don't care.

Perhaps your mother is jealous of your free will. I'm guessing that when she was your age, she didn't have all the liberties you did, and she's lashing out in a way only a parent could, other than physical abuse.

To get what you want, as well as what you need, you have to please them. Play with your toys when she's not home. And if she's home all the time, say you're going to do your homework (even though you may have already done it or have none at all--using the school angle when you're a good student works very well) and then play with them. But be sure to close your door. I remember how your brother is, and you don't want him catching you and being a tattle-tale.

Also, I agree with JDavis. It's a very good point. And Ryo as well. It does sound as if your mother is the real immature person in this case.

My mom doesn't seem to mind with me still collecting and playing with toys. She doesn't mind getting me one or letting me have them. But my dad is the one that'll say something. He always says "Aren't you too big for toys?" I tell him, I may be 16, but I'm still a kid at heart, dad. I sometimes try to hide a toy I buy because I'm afraid my dad will say something smart, or tell me I'm wasting my money.

driving has nothing to do with yer toys, hell i collected my TMNT toys back in high school1987-90, had all sorts of other toys and my mom took me out up to mountain roads to drive.

tell her theres a 32 year old school bus driver on here who has a whole collection of TMNT toys and YES...I play with em...

Buslady and Krow and the others are absolutely correct. You sound like a pretty nice and cool dude to me. Everyone has hobbies, and don't ever let anyone (including your parents) tell you how to live your life or enjoy your life and your hobbies buddy. If there's anything that's totally boring in this world it's sheep who follow the "norm" and do exactly what they're "supposed" to be doing at their age. Doing exactly what people expect of you is stupid. Be your own person, always.

If your parents are giving you a hard time about it, and it sounds like they are, ask them if you can have a serious talk with them about it and tell them that it makes you mad and uncomfortable when they judge you just because of your hobbies. Hopefully, they will listen and be understanding. If this advice doesn't help you out, bro, then maybe you're better off not explaining it to them. But just ignore people who act like that toward you. Take care.

I think toys are pretty healthy for any person to have. I mean, they are really great stress killers. I can see what angle your mum's coming from though, she sees toys as somthing for 6 or 8 years olds and since your 16 she thinks that's abnormal and probably only wants what's best for you. Unfortunately she probably isn't thinking of the positive aspects to toy collecting. By the sounds of it, toys are only a part of your life, not your life itself. Tell her to get over it. She's holding back your life and she should be encouraging you do get out there by getting your L's.

I don't think that's immature to play with toys. I don't collect toys but I still watch Disney movies. Now if that makes me immature I'm immature but that doesn't mean I'll stop.

JDavis makes a very good point. If you are doing well in school, have a healthy social life, get on well with people, stay away from drugs and drink(until you are old enough), then there should be no problem! As long as playing with figures is just a small part of your life and doesn't dominate it, or other areas aren't being neglected, then fine!

If, for example, you had no friends, job and were failing school because you were too busy playing I would see why....but you seem to be doing okay!

My parents have absolutely no problem with me collecting TMNT(although I collect to display, not to play). I'm 19, but I am a member of two drama groups (with two plays coming up soon!), I am in college, I don't drink,smoke or take drugs, and I have a lot of good friends who I go out with regularly. I also have a part time job. Not that I'm trying to boast about all this stuff but my folks know I'm a normal teen who just happens to collect toys.

The whole "immature" thing drives me mad. No-one I know really gives me a hard time over liking T.M.N.T.(It's funny, people are more shocked that I don't drink alcohol then they are by my T.M.N.T liking!) but it irritates me that the class clown who insults people during class, acts like a jerk, gets drunk and sick at parties and is rude to people will not be thought of as immature while us cartoon fans are treated as such.

Parents are funny people and I should know I am one. Maybe there's another reason she doesn't want you to start your driving, but she's using you're toys as an excuse. Maybe she's just worried for your safety.

Once many many years ago when I was 11 years old and a huge turtle fan I asked my mother if I could study martial arts. She told be that I could not because I was too immature and this ninja turtles thing was a five minute wonder of mine. She said she didn't want to spend out the money on lessons only for me to quit.

Well here I am 25 years of age and although I had to wait until I finished school and college I am now 7th Kyu in Shotokan Karate (Red belt) and still a huge turtles fan. Five minute wonder? pfft!

me...i just turned 20 and i still play wit my toys....and i get a simmilar responce from my dad.....he doesn't mind me buying my toys....he just feels that i sould keep them Mint on card and not play with them.....i mean i'm 20 if i "collect" the figs it's ok....poo on that...i wanna play...it keeps me young.....and hopefuly the storylines are better now....
