Tales of the TMNT #10 (Spoilers Ahoy!)

The official TMNT site has the cover of the latest tales comic up. Apperantly the jewish thing Donatello goes up against is a Golum. No..not the Pokemon or the LOTR character, but rather the Golum creature last seen in Gargoyles. Quit litteraly a creature braught to life to protect the Jews in Prague. Why is a Golum in NYC??? Guess we'll have to read the issue to find out.

There's also a backstory about a Utrom searching for the edge of the universe. *L*

What??? He is??? *flips thru issue 11* Well how about that! There he is!

I kinda thought I'd recognized the Golum from somewhere but I guess Don befriended the Golum and we'll find out how they became friends. Perhaps he's the protector of NYC's Jewish peeps????

So this issue of tales is one of those "Now you know the rest of the story" things.

I thought it was obvious that's what this issue was going to be about, I even mentioned it in another thread(maybe the Tales #9 one?) The thing from the cover looks like a golem, and they had suggested a Jewish theme for this one(and golems are from Jewish tradition). I hadn't noticed he was at Splinter's funeral though.

And even though I shouldn't care, this bothers me too much. It's spelled golem. Gollum is the guy from Lord of the Rings.

It was a very interesting read. hard to follow at parts, but only because the paneling was a bit off. but otherwise, it was an interesting read.

Just read it.

I like mythology, particularly crypto-zoological aspects, and I remember studying the Golem stories for a little while.

It had a nice twist-ending, too. Certainly one of the better issues of Tales.

How did you guys get it already? I checked 3 stores and they all told me that it hasnt been shipped yet. They said their site says this week but not when....I always get screwed around here when it comes to comics. Hell 80% of the stores dont even order TMNT anymore! Some of them just have issue #18 and below and when they do have the new ones their in a subscription box. Which they wont give me because I dont buy 5 or more comics a month. Well I would if they came out on time

We need to revolt against our comic shops! I know you know how much of a pain it is to get comics out here. I mean sure I could order it online but I get it faster if it's in the store. Usually cheaper too

This issue was rad. The art was really great. When an artist uses the tones in a certain way, it can really give almost a 3-D effect, or at least a real feel of texture. And I love the Utrom back-up stories that have been running in 'Tales', too.

No, it shouldn't matter what part of the US, Canada you're in (unless maybe you're 6 days sled ride from the nearest airport or something). Basically, a lot of you guys are getting the runaround. I guess I'm really lucky around here. We have four comic shops in Des Moines, and they all order TMNT and Tales and don't have minimums for subscription boxes.

ANYWAY, all new comics come out on Wednesday. You can easily see shipping lists at www.diamondcomics.com, which tells you what's coming out each week. So, if you don't have the new issues of TMNT or Tales, it means either your store actually did not order them or there is the slight chance that Diamond Distributors mixed up the order and didn't ship it on time to your store. I am an avid comics buyer and I've only had this latter situation happen a couple of times.

The fact is, a lot of comic shop owners are lazy jerks that only care about the latest, trendiest, watered-down garbage from Marvel or DC. Sitting down and ordering each month's comics can be a really time-consuming process and a lot of shop owners just breeze over stuff they don't care about from small publishers.

So, in closing, if your shop says that some title hasn't come out yet when many other people here have it already, your retailer is PROBABLY LYING.

Also, Mirage doesn't always give Diamond enough time to post it on the site. So sometimes the comics just appear.

With Mirage only publishing one comic a month, it can easily be lost. Also, the comic isn't on a bi-monthly scheduel but a 60 day one. So that is why it sometimes seems like it takes forever to get the comic.

I went to comic book store today and they didn't have it. I wish Diamond Comics was more reliable. Better luck next time. Well at least I was able to pick up the newest Marvel Milestones.

I have noticed that usually the week that it's on Diamond's shipping list most stores will get it. Occassionally some areas will get it a week or two before it's on the list though. Tales #9 didn't show up here until it was actually on Diamond's list, though some other people had it 2 weeks before that. And back when Tales vol.2 #1 came out, for some reason I was able to get it a week before it was on Diamond's shipping list.

I think part of the reason is that Mirage is small & therefore not able to get smooth release dates the way larger companies shipping out thousands more can. Diamond uses more than one warehouse, so it's possible that the shipments just arrive early or late sometimes to some of the warehouses.

I know about 2 years ago, the comic shop here would actually get everything a day early. All their shipments would come in on tuesdays, because the warehouse was close by & shipped everything as soon as they got it. Then he had to change to a different warehouse, and everything comes in now on wednesday like it does for most comic shops.

I got #10 yesterday, but I haven't read it yet. I'll post some thoughts here once I do. I do really like the little Utrom backup stories, though when they first started doing that I thought the stories were just weird- actually they still are weird, but I've come to expect that from them now.
