Oroku Saki & Quarry

Hey Hey...

Sorry if this is already being talked about somewhere on here....

Did I hear there was going to be a figure made of Oroku Saki? or has it already been done?

If there is one, can someone post a pic.

Also, I was wondering what the deal was with Quarry being held back....was it to do with the sculpt? (imagineably the legs) or do Playmates not 'do' reasons?

Cheers.

....Hmm....well the closest i can think of is the"armourized shredder"figure
(head atleast)......and "mutatin' shredder".........no clue on quarry... maybe Playmates freaked when they found out quarry was female!?!...
And she IS nude

A lot of people thought the reason she was held back was that her claws and the spikes on her shoulders and arms were too sharp for kids. I doubt this was the case though because the new prototype picture is still the same sculpt. Playmates have never said anything about her being held back. Like you said, they don't 'do' reasons

I was thinking that may be possible, women do not sell as well as men in kids lines, infact I'm not sure if they sell well at all...

You would have thought though, given that fact that she is a creature lookin' thing, they would have just released her anyway, assuming kids wouldn't feel soo 'immasculated' (sp) buying a figure like her, as opposed to buying people like April or Karai...

I don't have Stone Biter or Razor Fist yet.....I will wait & buy all three of them together when Quarry gets a release...

hot women tend to sell better than anything else. Fantastic four movie figures, case in point. How many of you saw invisible woman (no that's not a joke) I found her only twice out of the thousands of things and human torches. Sure she was shot packed, but she would have sold better any way just because she's freaking jessica alba!

Plus playmates already released april, who is in fact a woman I'm sure they wouldn't keep rereleasing her every wave if she wold bad.

I think it actually might have to do with the nude thing, that was pretty weird... maybe for a movie, but a kids show? Though I don't think kids would get it anyway, she's basically just a monster, and razor fist and stone biter had to be nude as well and that means there's little boys playing with naked men toys, and though that sounds like something michael jackson would dream up, well I have nothing to finish this sentence with....

It seems to often be the case with toy companies that attractive, younger women are made & older women or less attractive women are passed by...

Spider-Man - Aunt May
Buffy - Joyce (though she may be geting a release soon)
Star Trek - Galoob 1988 - Dr. Beverly Crusher
Star Trek - Playmates 1992 - Dr. Beverly Crusher (released later though)
Seaquest DSV - Playmates 1994 (?) - Dr. Kristin Westphalen
Harry Potter - Mattel 2003 (?) - Professor McGonagall
Masters of the Universe - Mattel 1986 (?) - Queen Marlena
Masters of the Universe - Mattel 2003 - Marlena/Sorceress (getting Staction release)

To name a few women who I have been disappointed by their absense from any toy line.

They did....& as I found recently, they released Irma, Venus, Mona Lisa, that evil vampire chick & that little green chick....so I would never say that Playmates are opposed to releasing females at all.

I guess it could......doesn't make any sense though....as said, she is no more naked that Razor & Stone....or the Turtles....

I had thought it may be troubles with those oddly shaped legs of hers....

Note:
I really think it's up to parents to make sure they buy their kids female figures & also play with the kids, teach them how to properly incorperate females into their games.
Sure, the women are always there in the comics & TV etc. but kids perception of girls is still that of their mother & sisters or chicks at school...not the newer butt kickin' style the action genre has pushed these last few years.

Most of us are probably too young to be parents (well, i'm 23!) but think about that....It would certainly help us get women released if kids felt comfortable buying & playing with them...plus you would be helping your kids human growth from a young age....

Hows that for some 'old man' advice

They did make an Aunt May figure, and it backfired on them. She was a mail away back for the famous covers line and they ended up with so much backstock it's not even funny.

Honestly Aunt May works different, you wouldn't really want an uncle ben figure either, it's more because they're old than anything else. What can they do, play grandparents with your action figures? There's no rapid punch or action kick or anything that kids would think fun. Might as well play with your real grandparents.

Heh... I just had a mental image of a kid having his grand parents on strings like a marionette (sp?) and making them dance around. heh.....

Quarry was held back because she was half the size of the other Underground monsters so they figured she wouldn't sell as well. That's what Dan told me when I emailed him and asked him why.

Really? I had no idea thats what happened...but Dan would know best...it does seem like a silly reason though if you ask me...

I am not doubting Dan or anything, but she seemed to be "heavier" than probably the Utrom was and the Utrom flew off shelves. I understand that a lot of parents would probably prefer paying $5 for a figure three/four times the size of the let's say Quarry, but the Utrom is by far one of my favorite figures.

And if that is what they are worried about, throw some cool "extras" into her box to make her more desirable (although I don't think they need to.. she is going to be impossibly hard to find when they finally get around to releasing her)

Well I guess compared to the size of Razorfist and Stonebiter she just didn't stack up. It wasn't that the other toys in that series weren't the same size as her. It was that she was a monster like Razorfist and Stonebiter and she was small. I guess they figured no one wanted a small monster. Playmates is weird -_-

And I just remembered that someone asked Turtle Tracks the Quarry question and he answered with something similar. I don't remember what issue.

Actually I was wondering about that....

Razor & Stone were quite huge in the show, Quarry was much smaller, but still quite a bit bigger than the Turtles....did they follow through on this scale? or haven't we seen Quarry near other TMNT figures?

She looks taller than the turtles but we haven't been given any photos of her next to them.

Just by holding her back, they have created such a desire to purchase her that I am dreading the day I have to fight with the collectors and children alike to get one!

As soon as she hits eBay I'm going to get one, so no fighting in the stores for me
