Army of Darkness vs Re-Animator

I've been waiting for this to come out forever. It got delayed for a couple months, and the prologue (Re-Animator #0) has still yet to come out. The Evil Dead trilogy and the unfortunately underrated Re-Animator trilogy are some of my absolutel favorite horror movies. Seeing as how the last Re-Animator flick, Beyond Re-Animator, was so disappointing I've been looking forward to a genuinely good and gorey Herbert West story for quite some time.

SPOILERS

Spoiler:
It picks up right where the last issue of Army of Darkness left off. Ash gets blamed for all the corpses found at the S-Mart and the cops cart him away...in an Elvis costume. He's deemed looney and gets taken to Arkham Asylum up near Miskatonic University.

Herbert West happens to work there, performing his experiments, and is in cahoots with some old member of the Cult of Cthulhu. The old man lets West use the Necronomicon to improve his re-animation experiments in exchange for giving him access to the Chosen One (Ash) so he might summon the Old Ones to Earth.

The whole issue is mostly a set-up for the series and West is only featured rather briefly. It doesn't seem to follow Re-Animator continuity too well, but then, this is a comic based off the Evil Dead franchise. Nothing ever sincs up quite right.

West seems to be written with a little more emotion than I'd prefer, but for the most part he's depicted very closely to his movie counter-part (at least from what I've read so far).

The series, like the last 2 Army of Darkness minis, introduced some throw-away buddies for Ash to team-up with. I won't be expecting either of them to survive the mini. I was sorta hoping Ash would go it alone this time rather than be saddled with some 2-dimensional sidekicks again.

Overall it was just a set-up so I can't really say it was bad or good. However, being an Evil Dead, Re-Animator and HP Lovecraft fan, I couldn't help but enjoy it.

Also, there were four variant covers. I normally don't fall into the variant cover trap, but I just had to have these two:

I picked this up as well, and it was alright. Not much happened so I won't pass judgement until issue 2 comes out. How many issues is the mini?

Oh, and I picked up the Gabrielle Dell Otto cover, and it was the best part of the book.

Well, #2 is out.

Spoiler:
I'm getting a little sick of Bad Ash beingin every arc; I was hoping for a break from him this time. I know he's been Ash's nemesis in every Evil Dead flick (he was the invisible evil in ED 1 and 2) but now it's just getting tedious.

Still, the plot twist at the end looks promising and they explained why West is being written so out of character (yay!). Things look like they're really going to heat up in #3, so I can't wait.

Last Wednesday.

Re-Animatore #0 still hasn't hit my comic shop, while I've heard otehrs say that they've gotten it. I wonder if it's one of those limited edition printings and now I'll have to eBay it for twice the price?

the part about Ash being put in a loony asylum is suprisingly suspicious as the new Evil Dead game plot

I have number one of this miniseries. I haven't been able to make it to the comic shop lately cuz I've been busy and I didn't know when a particualr comic on my subscription service list came out. They hold a comic on my list for two weeks and then if I don't show up within two weeks then they no longer hold it. I just hope they aren't mad cuz I didn't show up. I thought they were supposed to notify me when a particual comic comes out. I'll be goin' to the comic shop on Friday or Saturday so wish me luck. Good to see that Ash is fightin' Herbert West cuz I got tired of Evil Ash after a while.

Irecently picked up issues two and three at my local comics store. I'm really intrested in the direction this miniseries is goin'. For issue #2 I got the Nick Bradshaw cover and for issue #3 I got the Mel Rubi cover. I really liked how Ash went to that Alice in Wonderland place and he came back to the asylum. The next issue looks like it'll be good. I wonder how Ash'll survive against his dopplegangers that approached him in #3. Is he gonna grow back to his normal size? I can hardly wait for the conclusion.

I also have a question: Does anyone know when Tales of Army of Darkness and Army of Darkness #5: Old School will be comin' out? I haven't seen 'em on store shelves yet and I figured that they'd be comin' out after this current mininseries or next year. If they already came out, am I able to order 'em of off any websites?
