How old is Splinter?

I was wondering just how old (people years) Splinter is. I mean right now he looks pretty old and decript but he seems to be very viril and just as active as his sons. At first I thought he was really old because his fur is grey/silver but in the flash back episodes when the turtles where little kids and he was considerably younger his fur was also grey/silver and he looks exactly the same as he currently does, so maybe the grey fur isn't a sign of ageing but its natural coloring, which could indicate that he is still reasonably young. My guess is that Spinter is about in his 50's in human years which isn't that old.

Although when Slinter was just a rat before he was mutated his fur was more of a tawny color other than grey , so maybe being mutated had an effect on his fur coloring.

How old is Michael Jackson's nose?

You have your answer.

(I guessing between 50-60.)

I'm just saying that every makes Splinter out to be this ancient border line senile rat that is well in his dotage.

I mean I think that in all the version of Splinter I've seen.

Live Action Movies

Classic Toon

New Toon

New Toon Splinter appears to be represented as the youngest and active and Viril of the Splinters, who has no problem kicking ass and taking names.

The other vesions (classic toon, LAM) portray him as being rather weak and frail, although when the situation calls for it can kick ass as well. But tghese version seem to show him as very old.

My guess is the equivalent of late 40s, early 50s. Young enough to still kick butt, but old enough that he's starting to slow down and feel his age.

Real rats have short life spans compared to humans. They reach puberty around six weeks, maturity around six months, and senescence probably around 1.5-2 years. Pet rats may live up to 3 years (4 is pushing it), but wild rats don't live even half that long.

If the guys are 17 years old in human years, then Splinter is over 500 years old in rat years. That's pretty gee-darn old! 1 human year equals roughly 30 rat years. However, in actual solar years, he can't be more than 2.5 years older than the turtles.

Let's pretend Splinter was 1.5 years old when he mutated. We'll pretend that's long enough for him to have gained maturity and picked up all his killer ninjutsu skillz, plus allow for Yoshi moving from Japan to NYC. In that case, Splinter was the equivalent of 45 (rat) years old when he mutated. If he had continued to age like a rat, he would probably have died about a year and a half later, but he apparently adopted a more human aging rate.

Assuming the guys are 17, this scenario (1.5 years old at mutation) puts him at a minimum of 62 human-equivalent years old. My guess is he is still aging faster than a human would, so it may be more like 70-80 in this scenario. He can still kick butt, but the guy is no Spring pup any way you figure it.

In my experience, when animals show greying due to age, it's usually only noticable in the whisker areas, and maybe at tiny bit on the eyebrows, tail, or undersides. I have really only witnessed this on dogs, cats, horses, goats, and cows, and have no idea if the same may apply to rats. Even if it does, I don't think the writers/artists on this would know.

Well, there was my tricksy use of the word "IF".

Depending on which series you mean, the turtles can be anywhere between 15 and 50 (?). But I think in the current show they're now 17. *shrug* Make them any age you want. LOL

I'd say Archie Splinter looks even younger:

(The Animus War, part one)

Just look at him - he hasn't even hit 40 yet!

Yeah, "Elvis lives" - rock on, sensei.

I'd say that he's about mid 50's, possibly 55. If he can take Shredder on by himself (as he has done on at least one occation), he must have some life in him yet *waves about a flag with Splinter's name and face on it*

Oh my freaken' word!?!?! Thats Splinter He do4esn't look anything like classic toon Splinter, he looks like some reject from a Mickey Mouse Disney movie, Holy Crap!!!

I still think that Splinter in the new toon seems to be the youngest (or is the least frail and weak) of his incarnations. In this version Splinter seems to only walk with a cane because he got hurt at the Battle Nexus place. So if that injury never occured he would probably wouldn't even need a cane to help him walk with, so its not because of old age that he uses a cane, unlike in the old toon or live action movies where it appears its because of old age.

He uses a cane because he's a P-I-M-P.

Come to think of it, "Master Splinter" makes a great pimp name.

I think Splinter may be in his fifties early sixties at most. I guess the TGRI mutagen caused him to age as a human.

I think Older Toon Splinter is the youngest because Hamoto Yoshi Human looked to be in his eairly thirties. The turtles are mutated fifteen years later would put him in his mid forties. unless the his rat side caused him to age faster.

Movie Splinter look really old like late Seventies eairly eighties.

lol at the Master Splinter pimp line.

I thought Old Toon Splinter definitely acted older than that. I wonder if turning into a rat could have sped up his aging. Man, sucks for you, Yoshi.
