to clear up confusions about the new show...
Hi folks, I've been browsing this forum for months and have finally decided to post in order to clear up the questions and misunderstandings about the new TMNT cartoon show. No, I am not an authority on this, and am not in any way associated with Mirage, just a big fan of the original Mirage comics series.
From what I can tell by reading the synopsis on the official site, the new series will closely mirror the original comic book, which ran for 62 issues. For those of you who have not read it, here is a quick rundown. In the first issue the Turtles fight the Purple Dragon gang (just like in the mini-comic in the Fox Box), they later retire to the sewer where Splinter tells them their origin, which is much more like the first film in which Splinter was originally a rat, not a human. The last part of the issue features a battle with the Foot Clan, who are actual ninjas, not robots, and Shredder, and Shredder is apparently killed. The second issue begins with Baxter Stockman, who is indeed a black man like in the new series, and his assistant April, who is most definitely not a news reporter. Baxter is manufacturing Mousers, which he uses to extort money from businesses. When April discovers his plans Baxter sends his mousers after her and she escapes into the sewers under his lab. The Turtles rescue April and make their first human friend. They later return to Baxters lab and succeed in stopping him. A couple issues later the Turtles are lead to a mysterioius building which bears the logo of that was on the canister that mutated them. They break into the building and discover their master Splinter in suspended animation. The engage in a short battle with alien/cyborgs who look a lot like Krang from the cartoon series, and are later revealed to be called Utroms. During the battle the Turtles are accidentally transported to another world where they meet Dr. Honeycutt, aka the Fugitoid, and end up in the middle of a war between the Triceratons and the human Federats to gain control of the technology that Fugitoid posesses. The Turtles are captured by the Triceratons and are made to fight in an arena vs Triceraton gladiators. The Turtles win and manage to escape the arena and take the Triceraton president hostage. Suddenly they are transported back to the Utrom compound, along with some Triceratons and another battle ensues. When the dust clears, the Turtles make friends with the Utrom aliens and are then transported back home. The best parts of the first series are issues 1-10 and 19-21. The Return to New York storyline takes place in 19-21, where the Turtles come back to face the Shredder again, who has managed to reinicarnate himself. There's much more to tell, and I strongly suggest checking out the old comics before watching the new show. The main difference between the original comics and the old show is the mature tone of the books. The tone was somewhat captured in the first live action movie, and I'm hoping that the new show follows that model. |

Nice to see more Mirage fans here! I myself bought the Whole first volume + the specials few months back. Only Mirage TMNT comics I miss are Volume 2 issues 4-10 and I have ordered those.
As I hope the new show would be like The Mirage, you have to understand that it's targeted for kids, and shown in saturday mornings. Some compromises will be made. But one thing is clear: It won't be anything like the old cartoon. |

Well it won't be the Mirage Universe 100%, but I can live with that. It will be it's own universe, So probably not everything from Mirage is going to exatly same. But it will make rules for it, it will be more serious than the old cartoon and will have a real plot.

Welcome!
It's awfully nice to see another Mirage fan around here. I love the issues you mentioned. But I think the best Mirage storyline was "City At War" issues 50-62 Vol.1. It provided a deep look into every major character. Storytelling at its best.

hmmm
Well, issues 48 to 49, the "Shades of Grey" storyarch, were sort of a prelude to City at War.... so its really issues 48 to 62. damn, a fifteen issue story..... epic.

True. I really Love Return to New York. I have heard that City at War is even better, so that must be really something.

Re: to clear up confusions about the new show...
Yeah... I'm a Mirage fan myself, this being the most fav story of all versions. The art ofr R2NY is cool , cuase it's a combo of E&L, Lawson, and Berger. City at War was done by Lawson, but his style was cool then.

The First issue was ment to be a parofy of traditional Super hero comics. It was after the Huge success of that book when they began to take it seriously.
As for Lawsson, he has many styles. His style is good in Tales of the TMNT and in City at War, that is his first phase. Second one, The volume 2 phase is pretty good too(Judging from few first pages of issue #1 of volume 2) but a little diffrent from the first one. Third Phase is the Volume 4. TMNT still looks good, but the Human characters... Well to be honest they look like trolls of some sort. |
