Kazaa or Grokster?
Hey, I was talking to a friend of mine here at college, and he mentioned a program similar to Kazaa called Grokster....I was wondering if anyone here has it or has ever used it. If so, how does it compare to Kazaa, and are there good chances of finding stuff with that program?

Grokster uses the gnutella network, so it's kinda different from kazaa.
I've tried using both kazaa lite and gnucles (grokster-like proggie) and i ended up liking kazaa more, it doesn't takes as much to connect and kazaa seemed to find more files for me than gnucleus did. Sooo...i do have them both but i rarely use gnucleus because what i want is always either in kazaa or irc |

hmm...okay, thanks Nicko.
Maybe you can answer this....If you download something from Kazaa, can you move it to Grokster and play it there? |

I think so, yes, since grokster player uses the same program that kazaa's theater uses (windows media player)

Okay, last question, for a Million dollars, can you answer it? *"Who wants to be a Millionaire Music strikes in the background, and the lights dim* Okay, does Grokster have all the extra junk tath Kazaa has, or is it smaller? |

Well i haven't used grokster, but judging by gnutella, it has basically the same stuff that kazaa, only in a different network.
As for the files, well there are files in grokster that aren't in kazaa and kazaa has files that grokster doesnt, but it kinda has the same files sometimes. Besides the filter option for kazaa and the chatroom option for grokster, i don't think they're that different Edit: well after checking a bit, i've found out gnucleus does have a filter just like kazaa, so that may also be the case with grokster. |

Ok, apparently grokster is yet another version of kazaa/morpheus, only with less spyware than the normal kazaa.
http://pub39.ezboard.com/ftaxsterfrm...picID=13.topic I thought it used gnutella/gnucleus servers, but then i found out it uses the kazaa/morpheus servers, so i think i'll have to answer the questions again: Q: I was wondering if anyone here has it or has ever used it. If so, how does it compare to Kazaa, and are there good chances of finding stuff with that program? A: it has a different skin/icon, and it's able to let you search for 320k bitrate mp3s or so i've readed, other than that it's pretty much the same program with a different look. Q: If you download something from Kazaa, can you move it to Grokster and play it there? A: Yep, since it's the same program i'm guessing it has the same version of kazaa's theater, only this one's called grokster player. Q: Okay, does Grokster have all the extra junk tath Kazaa has, or is it smaller? A: Yup...same network, same files...it also might look the same...i'd install it to test but i dont wanna get the cydoor thing. |

Just my opinion; but I've used Kazaa before, and it did OK, but for a while it wouldnt search or download anymore. It mighta been just a downed server or somethin, but I got rid of it and started using Grokster, and it's been working pretty well for me!

Well neither one of those aren't really good p2p programs... Best right Now is Overnet. It's a srverless version of Edonkey. It's good for games movies etc. But if you want to have Something like TMNT episodes or any other tv series, IRC is the only way to go.

Yeah, kazaa/grokster/morpheus are all the same program with a different twist here and there, personally i prefer kazaa lite v2 but there's not much difference to the other kazaa like proggies i tried.
My favorite p2p so far would be IRC, that's where i found tmnt, and tmnt is really the reason why i started downloading divx stuff...and irc still provides good stuff to me other than tmnt so i guess irc's in my priority list. Next i guess would be kazaa, tho i'm using it less and less now. Overnet seems like one heck of a p2p program...i mean edonkey had lots of files and the problem was i couldn't connect to servers, overnet is a serverless version of ed2k so i guess with overnet my problems would be solved...but i tried it and it gave me an error so for now overnet will have to wait untill i figure out how to fix it |
