Preview for Tales of the TMNT 18 is up!

Donatello and Glurin investigate a mystery under the Sargasso Sea.

And from the cover it looks like Utroms can breathe under water and they make friends with a giant sea turtle. *L*

I'll pick this up. I hope it's good. Hopefully better than #17.

Am I the only one who has found Tales to be rather lackluster of late (with the exception of #16)?

The last issue certainly was. The issue where Don goes to investigate an asteroid with the Utrom and acted completely out of character the whole issue was a little weak, too.

Still the better of the two TMNT books.

I've seen this sentiment a lot lately and I completely disagree. I much prefer a continued, even if imperfect, storyline.

Eh... I could go with an imperfect continued storyline, but not a ridiculous one. I think the April origin was the only thing that has permenantly messed this entire series up, in my opinion. Everything would've been just fine if Laird didn't give April that dumb origin. As fairly decent as the other stories are, I think the April storyline has put a permanent dent in this series. Tales sticks to the original format that we knew the Turtles by. We're given action, quick-paced stories, and more adventures.

I agree with DrSpengler: Tales > TMNT

Tales is a lot easier to pick up for the casual reader than Vol.4.

Vol. 4 relies extremely on extensive continuity, which is great for us regulars, but nobody who hasn't been reading since issue #1 is going to be interested. Esepcially at the pace the book was going for so long (it's picked up now, though).

Tales is the TMNT at their roots, with a rotating cast of writers and artists to keep things nice and fresh. The option to have the stories take place anywhere in the TMNT's timeline provides infinite potential, and the "anthology series" approach ensures that Joe Average will have no problem picking up any issue and getting started.

The two books are vastly different. Vol. 4 is buried beneath tons of continuity, which will appeal to the hardcore fan, but Tales is a new story every month without the weight of required reading.

For my money, I think Tales has the most potential and the better collection of stories compared to volume 4. Plus it's out more frequently.

But that's just my opinion.

I liked this issue. There wasn't too much to it but it was still fun. It kind of reminded me of #16.

I'm really digging the Professor Obligado side stories. It's an interesting little serial to follow.

I think the thing I liked best about this issue was Dario Brizuela's art. I love his versions of the TMNT, and while stylised, aren't nearly as childish-looking as Lawson's. He also did the inking/tones, apparantly, and the art looks all the better for it. I really hope he does more issues.

The story was one of the better single issue adventures. Certainly better than the giant spider crap from last issue, or the Donatello space adventure where he was written and drawn out of character on every page.

And I didn't even know Don used to be a Red Slider. Huh.

You know I thought the same thing! I remember a few discussions here about what species the tmnt are and I believe some sort of box turtle was the concensus. Red ear sliders are kinda strange cuz, as an owner of 2 actual sliders, they have VERY pronounced "red ears", thus the name red ear slider. Obviously, the tmnt do not have this feature so I guess it was lost during mutation...

About the issue, I enjoyed it alot...i also very much like the style of the artist and hopes he does more. Those Obligado stories are also a very neat extra and I hope they keep those up as well...

This issue was interesting. Pretty much a good bounce back from the last Don solo Tales, where he was completely out of character. Though this lacks a lot of action, it did re-establish Don's true character. Also, I liked that he was keeping in touch with his species! We didn't really see the Turtles bonding with their sea-cousins before (or at least I couldn't remember a time where they were). And the Bermuda Triangle was always something I had interest in, as a kid. I always wanted to actually explore the Bermuda Triangle myself, over live-broadcast, showing the world just how the Bermuda Triangle functioned. I wish some news station would build up the guts to do it.

Interesting background story that they created for the Bermuda Triangle. But it takes away my hopes of the Turtles enterting the Bermuda Triangle, themselves, and fighting off the unidentifiable, evil species of the territory.

Anyway, good issue!

Im glad that we now know that the mutation isnt a super evolution. I think whoever thought that the mutagen is a super evolver is out of there mind.

Just got Tales 18 today. It was an interesting read. Especially the things it revealed in it.

1: Donatello flat out saying that he was a slider. (and here I thought they were 3 toed box turtles...meh

)
2: The turtle grave yard (ooh freaky)
3: The origin of the Bermuda triangle (the Voyagons?). Hey...can they explain the Alaska Triangle next?

4: The HUGE sea turtle. Wonder if it's related to the one in "Aladdin and the King of Thieves"??? He must be the origin for the native american and Japanese myths of turtle island.
