2007 - 20th anniversary

So next year is the 20th anniversary for the original cartoon (I can't believe it either, 20 years already?!) what would you guys like to see done for it?

Personally I think they should make a huge DVD release that year, like maybe if season 3 gets done with the individual sets this year they could do a season 3 box set + season 4 box set.

To coincide with these DVD releases they could have a very small toy line of just the main characters in the old toon style. Similar to how Transformers has the Alternators as well as Cybertron toys.

Though this will never happen since the movie is going to be released the same year, what would you guys WISH to see done?

Why is this in the toy section?

I'd like to see a 20 year behind the scenes. Where they interview people who were involved with the turtles show and add it to a season DVD set.

because if you read they are asking (even though everyone is sure it wont happen) what we would like to see in an old school toon aniversy line.
Me I'd honestly like sme good basic things
4 turtles, Splinter, April, Shredder, Krang w/ bubble walker & Android body,
Bebop, Rocksteady, Genereal Tragg, Granitor, Footsoldier, The Nutrinos, Burn Thompson, Vernon, Irma, & maybe some other characters like Tony the butcher or other mobsters and yes even characters like titanus his mutants Lord Dregg and mung I would really like figures of even if you don't like them you have to admit if done correctly they would all make really awsome toys.

Meaning...the current toy line with more articulation and better detailing?

Personally I'd like some old school characters reworked into toys and/or into a DVD release of some sort... (aka bring back Mondo Gecko!)... thats all I'd like to see... oh, and some CGI toys, and the CGI movie...

Now don't go jumping to conclusions; the release of the CGI movie is the perfect opportunity for toy companies to come up with throwbacks to the old series and franchise, 'cuz media attention towards the Turtles will be at an all-time high! For instance, some TMNT toys are shipping to store shelves packaged with the third Ninja Turtles movie. How cool is that?

I'm not sure we'll be seeing a whole new toy line dedicated to the old toon, but I'm confident we'll at least see some pretty clever marketing.

Honestly I doubt they'll do anything. There was nothing for the 20th anniversary of TMNT period! Nothing at ComiCon either! Being so big back in the late 80s, early 90s, they would have said something. But nope.

When the movie is out, it will be movie tie ins, nothing else.

Yea, thats what it said in the original post in this thread: that '07 would mark the 20 anniv. of the cartoon...

I sure do hope they do some neat throwback figures once the movie comes out...some really great things have tremendous potential now with interest riding so high, as stated earlier....if we don't see soem cool stuff when the movie comes out, I doubt we ever will...

They should do special edition re-productions of all the old figures.

At the very least, they should release reproduction box sets of all four turtles, plus some of the other main characters...Shredder and Splinter, definitely.

actually Alternators(which has no real storyline yet) and Cybertron(which is its own cartoon) have nothing to do really with the 20th anniversery of Transformers. Only thing they did for the 20th annv. for TF was the special edition Optimus Prime.

But, i get what your saying, lol

I highly doubt aswell that they'll do anything. If they do it will prolly only be the final dvd for season 3 and the first dvd for season 4.

Sorry, I missread. It would be cool if we got some comerative artwork, or maybe VH1 could do a special "When TMNT Ruled the World".

I wouldn't mind if there were movie figures similar to the Movie Star Turtles. I'd also like to see some revamped vintage figures like the Undercover Turtles or the Mutant Masters. I just hope Playmates has somethin' in mind for the new movie and they'll release toys for the anniversary.

Sorry to bring some bad news but there will NOT be any 20th anniversary figures to commemrorate the cartoon.

For three main reasons:

1: The license for the original cartoon is not fully, if at all, with Mirage.
2: The entire focus for Playmates (from a merchandising point of view) for 2007 is on the movie, not that it would have mattered because of reason 1.
3: It takes more than a year to produce a new toyline, for figures to be released in 2007, production in it's earliest stages would have had to have been started by now.

Iv'e been told that the other party holding the license for the original cartoon may be planning somthing but if they are Mirage is not aware of it, but a toyline is out of question as there may be issues with cartoon figures competing with the movie figures.

We would be lucky to even get a 20th anniversary commerative lapel pin.

Seriously, Unless some miracle happens and TMNT gets the PR push of a lifetime we aren't going to get much.

KBs released a ton more figures that those you mentioned, including vehicles. It was pretty neat of them to do that cuz it gave alot of people an opportunity to snag a lot of figures they might have missed the first time around (including myself!)
