Is Things change on your list basically because it was the first new epidsode of the series, or do you really find it one of the top five? Just wondering...havent seen that one in a while.

1. Shredder Strikes Back Part 1- This one ranks as number one on my list both for the incredible animation, and because it's a faithful adaption of Leonardo #1 (my favorite TMNT comic to date.)
2. Rogue in the House Part 2- This episode is great purely for its borrowed elements from the "Return to New York" comics. The debut of Zog was definately worth the wait, and the episode actually had a very deep, emotional story that detracts from some of the less engaging aspects. 3. Same as it Never Was- Although I will admit this episode is very good, it is very flawed in several ways. This would actually be my favorite episode except that it tries to be much more graphic than it is allowed to be. The failure to maintain the viewer's suspension of disbelief is the main problem. Both the absensce of blood and the idea that a rocket launcher will have such a minimal effect really detracted from the episode. The show tries to take itself seriously, but is curtailed due to the restrictions of Saturday morning television. The idea of four talking turtles and a giant rat is already hard to belief, and a cartoon with so many restrictions placed upon it should probably try to stay within the limits of reality as much as possible. Regardless, excellent episode and a very audacious attempt on the part of 4Kids. 4. What a Croc!- I love this episode as it was my first introduction to the Mirage-style Leatherhead. I realize that he isn't exactly the same in this incarnation, but he is still a very fascinating character that has much more depth than most of the secondary characters on the show. 5. Kirby- I really think this is a spectacular episode and a perfect adaption of Donatello #1. Jack Kirby is an excellent artist and this is a very fitting tribute to the king of comics. Truthfully, I think there were more gifted talents, but the shear number of characters that Kirby developed truly warrant him such a title.

Shredder Strikes Back Part 1
Pretty much a perfect adaptation of the Leonardo special which is probably my favorite TMNT comic (though Return to New York Part 3 is very close behind!). Return to New York Part 3 Not a perfect adaptation, but the first time I saw it I couldn't believe that Leo actually got to behead Shredder in a kids cartoon. A classic moment and a great conclusion to the major storylines that had been building for the season. Same as it Never Was AMAZING. What else is there to say? This episode showed just how far the creators were willing to go with this show (probably further than 4Kids liked). Great focus on Don, and it was really nice to see the reactions as the TMNT were "reunited". Prodigal Son Leonardo back to normal and better than ever. I'm biased as Leo's my favorite turtle, but I loved seeing the conclusion of his character development this season when he told Karai her anger defeated her and reminded him of "a turtle I used to know". Good Genes Part 2 The Turtles make a deal with the devil and break into Foot HQ. Raph gets to play with some big toys, Don gets cured, and the Foot Mystics trick Bishop into freeing them then plan to bring back the real Shredder! This episode has it all! Course I've not seen a lot of season 3 yet (Exodus in particular) so this may change. And I have a feeling some stuff in the Lost Season will make it change again! |

Shredder Strikes Back: Part 1 (Like everybody said, great animation and great adaptation. This ep pretty much tells the story without words and the contrast of the silent intensity of Leo's story with the laid back slapstick of the others in April's apartment is the way TMNT should be).
Shredder Strikes Back: Part 2 (Splinter and the other 3 Turtles get a time to shine and we really see how vital Leo is to the team as they have a big hole without him. The Shredder still commanded awe before we knew he was an utrom The Shredder Strikes: Part 2 (Ya'll see a theme going here? This was the ep we all waited for when the show started. It was the first movie's finale and TMNT #1 all rolled up in an animated half-hour format. This ep has to be on the list). Secret Origins: Part 3 (Old Toon references mixed with unexpected plot developments: Krang the whinner, April the reporter in the Banana suit, and the Shredder like we never thought we'd see him before!) Tale of Master Yoshi (The true ep #100, one of the best "filler" eps ever. It was good to see such backstory even in the 4th season. And it ended on a great cliffhanger to boot!) |

For the sake of this "Top 5," any eps that have a "To be Continued..." I would count as one episode, because they all link together by tying EVERYTHING up.
1) Return to New York - Why? This was the 2nd best story arch from the Comics, but my FAVORITE eps because it was nice to see the turtles go all out and kick some major ass without relenting. Besides, to finally see Leo Take of Shredder's head was just amazing. 2) Exodus - This had it all. It was the ultimate TMNT 2 parter because they defeated Shredder, then he escaped only to defeat them for in turn them to turn around and blow up his ship... Only to have the utroms save them all... Just GREAT. What more can I say? 3) A Tale of Yoshi - This had so much backstory and it had Tang Shen! It had GREAT Animation and was by far the best ep of the 4th season. 4) Prodigal Son - Only reason this episode makes it is because of the Amazing Matrix Leo and the final battle. Again, all around good Episode. 5) City at War - This was my favorite arch of the comic series and to see it in animation (no matter how sparse it was to the real thing) was great! Too bad this just lead to the on again/off again relationship between Leo and Karai that would put the Lana/Clark thing in Smallville to SHAME!!!! To make up for it, Casey's "Pretty Ninja Lady" line was classic.

I thought SAINW was amazing. The only time you get to see the turtles actually die. It was also cool to see what happens when you take one turtle out of the bunch. Donny defeats the shredder, but his brothers are dead. My stomach actually dropped when the 3 others went down. You know that feeling inside when something really scares you. Ooooo.

I don't think I have any favorite episodes, other than the ones that are based on the comics (which are a lot).
But I guess the best out of those would be (not in any order): 1. Meet Casey Jones 2. Things Change 3. The King 4. The Shredder Strikes Part 1 5. The Shredder Strikes Part 2

You know the thing about SAINW is it was way tooooo rushed. It needed to be two parts seriously. And the deaths were so out there it bugged me I mena I know yeah it's a kids show but still.

Yeah I agree. Things change was awesome because I remember watching it on opening saturday. It felt so awesome to see the turtles back on tv. I could tell from the start that I was gonna love this new series.
