Can someone fill me in?

Hey,
I've been watching TMNT through buying the DVDs. I finished the mural of all 4 turtles and havent boughten any others since.

I stopped once I heard they were out of order and missing episodes so I've been kinda turned off of purchasing any more.

But I'm curious, whats all this Fast Forward business about? I hear alot of complaining but what the hell is it?(please dont spoil anything, im just curious about what it is).

Also, if i were to watch the DVDs in the order of their release, will it even make sense(continuity-wise) or should I just watch them...through "other" means...?

Nail on the head. FF is a story arc that attempts to gain a broader fan base by catering to younger kids. Unfortunatly, it scares us older fans, in that it claims to be more humorus and stand alone episodes and not butt kicking action and sweeping, character building arcs.

You'll have no problem watching the episodes in order on DVD so long as you don't mind getting up and changing discs a lot, as (so far) it looks like all episodes will be available on DVD.

Basically Fast Forward is Season 6 of the new show, but it's been brought forward to be Season 5. In doing this it's meant that the Season 4 cliffhanger will go unresolved unless you buy the upcoming "Lost Season" on DVD. The Lost Season could be anything between 10-13 episodes, and could be 2 or 3 DVDs released either as a set or individual releases.

There are several reasons for this. The first is that Fast Forward is a better option for merchandise as kids love futuristic stuff (apparently). The second is that the TMNT show over the last few years has become more intense in nature (a good example is "Same as it Never Was" in Season 3 and the banned "Insane in the Membrane" in Season 4) and this was to continue with Season 5/The Lost Season being even more intense (according to insider Boardman at Super Hero Hype). Fast Forward by comparison is said to be a return to a more light hearted show without the complex backstory that's built up over the past four years - again a great selling point to kids and a good way to bring in more of an audience.

So Fast Forward becomes Season 5 and the original Season 5 becomes The Lost Season and Peter Laird is paying for it to be completed for DVD so the fans can see how the story would have progressed before the TMNT jump forward in time.

Of course this means that fans instantly seem to hate the idea and believe it's been forced on the show via the network. This is both true and untrue. The new direction was always planned and would have happened anway, but the network did force it forward by a year. Personally I don't believe there will be a drop in quality as the same people are working on the show and they were working on this new direction even before Fox brought it forward a year. Whilst I think The Lost Season will be the stronger of the two (as it will have tighter continuity with the previous 4 seaons and will probably offer some form of closure to those years of the TMNT's lives) I am also looking forward to Fast Forward as well.

Hmm... seems screwy but I'm not one to judge before I see anything. Besides, like you said, its the same people working on it and there are definite(?) plans for the real season 5 to be released on DVD... so... no worries.

About the lost season DVD release...

Okay, so not all the episodes from season 3 and 4 are out yet. Are they ever gonna release all the episodes they've skipped? And is it for sure that the Lost Season will be released?

Man.. I miss this show

All of Season 3 is now out on DVD as "Vol. 3.7: Hun on the Run" contained the last 2 S3 episodes and 4 more S4 episodes.

There's currently 15 episodes from S4 unreleased and two more DVDs planned; "Vol. 3.8: Rise of the New Shredder" in August and the unnamed Vol. 3.9 in November.

The Lost Season is 99% confirmed at this point (I think anyway) as Peter Laird is funding it himself. The current estimated date for that is January next year.

It's hard to imagine that they'll put 15 episodes on 2 DVDs, but current feeling amongst fans is that at least 1 episode from Season 4 (Ninja Tribunal) will instead be released on The Lost Season DVDs. Fox haven't skipped an episode from DVD yet, so I don't see any reason to doubt they'll all be available over Vol. 3.8, 3.9 and The Lost Season.

Fast Forward Vol. 1.1 is also due out at the end of January next year.
