Usagi to appear in Fast Forward
Quote from Mikey's Tmnt .com:
[What is the fate of TMNT: Fast Forward featuring Usagi?! VERY GOOD! Hey everyone, Nitro here reporting back from a fun but tiring week at Megacon 2007 in Orlando! I've have had a wonderful expierence and the first person I met when I first arrived at the Gigcast booth (where I occasionally help do silly voices and skits, etc) was Stan Sakai! Not only did he sketch in my Usagi books, I informed him how proud I was that he allowed Usagi to return in the 2003 TMNT series and he then quipped that Usagi is returning in the new show! Usagi's decendent, Space Usagi is coming! He has approved the script and supposedly it is a go. Also, while the rights are always tired up on Usagi for the past 10 years or so with a movie constantly 'in the works'... apparently a CGI-fare is going to depend on our green friends possibly... Nitro out!] So how do you guys think Usagi will act like in Fast Forward? Will they keep his 2k3 desigin or will they change it up a little bit. I hope he isn't too kiddish scince that's the way Fast Forward has been going. Any thoughts?

Well, it said "descendent", so it might not be the same Usagi (wlthough Sapce Usagi was regular Usagi in the comics, just...in space).
I'm really looking forward to this. I recently picked up the Fast Forward season 1 DVD set and I didn't think the show was as atrocious as fans make it out to be. |

Space Usagi was never the same character. How would he get into space when they don't have that kind of technology? Understandable mistake though. So... Who exactly is Space Usagi?
BTW, TMNT:>> isn't horrible unless you compare it to 2K3. Though it's hard not to since that's the show's back-story.

That's the real problem. TMNT:>> is a spin-off of sorts of the 2k3 series. But it's like a Lou Grant spin-off for the Mary Tyler Moore Show, where MTM was a comedy, Lou was a gritty drama. I'm sure some die hard MTM fans hated Lou Grant...but there were probably others that loved the change of pace and the furtherance of a character. TMNT:>> is kind of the exact opposite. Some die hard 2k3 TMNT fans dislike it because it's not the same tone, art, and storytelling, and some can see it as something different, maybe not as good as the original, but not NT:TNM.
On the subject of Space Usagi I say, "YEA!!!!"

Gotta love that they're continuing with us seeing the descendents of their friends.
Guess I should read the Space Usagi comics now to get an idea of the character before the ep airs.

I also dig how it presents the effects that events from the previous season had on the future, such as the new Turtle Titan. And in regards to the animation, the characters designs are some-what more angular but the animation-itself is on par with the previous seasons. The fight scenes are just as fluid and action-packed, anyway. And the supporting characters aren't half as annoying as I thought they'd be. On his worst days, Cody isn't even remotely as irritating as Zack was on his best days. Serling also gets some of the best lines and I enjoy his dry wit. And Starly's cute. I have no real complaints. Personally, I think the real problem stems from not getting the Lost Season, which does indeed suck, but I won't take it out on Fast Forward. HOWEVER, I will admit that Fast Forward has hands down the worst theme song I've ever heard in my entire life. Great animation, but a disgusting song. Anyhow, I'm killing the subject...Space Usagi! W00T!! |

While I despise >>, still...SPACE USAGI!!!
Plus, now theres even more of a reason to go see TMNT. If they do great, a CGI Usagi movie is a possiblity. Maybe this could lead to a new era in CGI, the era of anthopormorphic animal superheroes. Usagi, the COW Boys of Moo Mesa, the Biker Mice from Mars, the Swat Katz. OH THE POSSIBILITIES!!!! |

God DAMN Swat Kats need a new cartoon show or something. They've been rerunning the series on Boomerang at 11:30 and I'd forgotten how good it was.
And Usagi needs his own movie/tv series PERIOD. Hell, he's been needing one since the 80's... |

About "Space Usagi" - it's a "Star Wars" parody, only with dinosaurs and samurai rabbits. Some parts of the plot are direct references to the legendary saga, Usagi is like Luke combined with Obi-Wan Kenobi, Gen (called Rhogen there) is like Han Solo, Tomoe is like Leia Organa. Nothing bad in fact. One of better Sakai's works in my opinion, although many fans despise it just because it doesn't take place in Japan, just in space.

The Biker Mice already have a new series, which is about to start it's SECOND season, but in the UK and overseas. It hasn't reached the U.S. yet. Drat it.
And probably WON'T til sometime in 2008. At least, that's the news that we BMFM fans are getting from the Official BMFM website, and their official forum, Red Planet. I haven't checked the website of Criterion Licensing, yet, so don't know what's going on there.

A Usagi movie in traditional 2D animation would be a dream come true. I don't think I could stand to watch it in 3D. It's one thing to animate Turtles in 3D but to animate a mammal in 3D is a lot of work to pull off properly. So, I want a 2D movie for Usagi. Hopefully, that can happen in the future. In the mean time, an animated series would be nice. Just don't hand the keys to 4kids.

I get ya though, doing Usagi in 3D could easily suck (finding that balance between cartoony and realistic, mostly), though it could be pulled off. I'd vote for a 2D movie myself, and if handled properly it could be awesome. I haven't read any Usagi comics and can't really consider myself an authority on the subject, but what I've seen of his world (thanks to TMNT)... I like. Heck, even his own solo series could be cool. Maybe even throw in a TMNT episode if it went on for long enough - that'd be fun to see the tables turned that way. As for Usagi in FF... I shudder to think how his character design will be slaughtered to fit their shiny pointy style. Even if it's Space Usagi instead of the real one. |
