If Batman Begins can be successful without the Joker and if Superman Returns can get a sequel after WB lost money on it I'm sure TMNT will get a sequel.

Yeah, after Superman's underwelming preformance, I don't think TMNT has to worry. Even if this doesn't make the 100 mil, WB wouldn't lose half as much as they did with Superman.

Though I have been thinking. When they said 100 mil, did they mean purely b.o., or does that also include merchindising? |

Sorry I must have missed something. Where was it said, and by who, that TMNT needed to make 100 mil domestic to get a sequel?

If the DVD does extremely well then maybe we'll see a direct-to-dvd sequel type of situation (like Hollow Man 2, The Incredible Hulk a.k.a. Hulk 2 coming straight to dvd, etc.). Like I heard that "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" did $30 million on theaters and $35 million on DVD...lol yep it made more money on DVD than in theaters...so maybe it'll happen with TMNT as well.
And for my own two cents on box office...it'll never make $100 million. I don't mean to be disrespectful to anybody...and I know this is about "IF". My reasons for this is that the weekend alone, March 23, you have: Reign Over Me: Adam Sandler does big business, look at Click, the longest yard, 50 dates...all did over $100 million. A new Pixar Film....again lol they usual do good business, and this will split the kids crowd. Two new horror films (Dead Silence and Hills have Eyes 2)....that'll split the adults/teens crowd. Plus the second week of 300...which truthfully has been getting a lot more buzz than TMNT. Sorry to be such a ninny...but $100 million groos? Never happen. The studio are just releasing it at a wrong time...it's too busy a calendar/weekend. Again I know this is about "IF" and about the DVD sales. Hopefully those who didn't catch it in theaters will gobble this up on DVD...I mean if we can get Children of the Corn 666 or Leprechaun in the HOOD....why not a TMNT 2 (although maybe just be done with animation/cheaper...but better than nothing). |

There isn't a new Pixar film on the 23rd. There is a new Disney, NON-Pixar, CGI movie on the 30th.
300 will be in its 3rd week. This will obviously be big business, but I dunno what kind of lasting power it'll have. It has big geek support, but I don't know how it'll be received by the mainstream. I honestly can't bring myself to have any interest in it. I personally am optimistic for at least $100 million.

Only thing im worried about is Shooter, reguardless of it being rated R, other than that im sure TMNT will be #1 come Monday the 26th. Because i've seen the Shooter commercial more than i have TMNT, plus they had some sort of promotion thing on XboxLive with free Shooter themes and pics.
But whether or not it makes it's $100 mil domestic, im sure theres still going to be a huge possibility for a sequel. as was mentioned above, if Superman Returns can get a sequel then TMNT shouldn't have much to worry about. I also did forget about the Sandler movie, but, it looks more geared toward the Oscar people, and we all know how those types actually do at the box office, reguardless of whose in it. And Hills Have Eyes 2? HHE1 only got 15 mil in its first weekend.

I think people have a general misconception about Superman Returns. It didn't cost 270 mil to make, it was only 220 mil. And the other 50 of that was because of all the rewrites in the past years. It brought in about 390 million worldwide. So making a 120 million dollar profit is a "bomb" these days? It may not have made what the companies hoped for, but it did very well regardless.

It all depends on word of mouth. If this does turn out to be truly awesome, word will spread and more people will come. I'm just worried about the people who think the movie is "ruining" their childhood vision of TMNT. Most people who've mentioned it around me seem to be looking forward to it, though.
I'm not concerned about a sequel yet. And it's not quite like hitting $100m is going to automatically punch the "sequel" button. I'm going to think about the movie that's coming out on the 23rd first and foremost. |

but still, moreso than worrying about the sequel, I just want the franchise to be successful. Lots of people I know are excited about it, but how many will actually go see it? the good thing about a kids movie however is: every kid that goes to see it sells two tickets. one for them and one for mommy or daddy.
My fiance and I are taking her 6-year old brother to see it. |

I have said it once.....I will say it again. I do not like to put the carriage before the horse or count all of your eggs before they hatch. Let's see how the movie does before we even think about a sequel.
