Showing the movie clips to kids
Yesterday at the school where I teach a before and after K-5 program I showed a few of the clips from the various sites and links that have been found from the movie (Thanks to everyone who posted things I hadn't found)
The reaction from these kids ranging from 5 to about 8 years old was amazing. Now, not many of them have watched the Turtles and only a few have seen anything before FF, and even some didn't know who the Shredder was*Gasp*, but they are freaking out over seeing this film. They want to do a TMNT field trip. Girls and boys were glued to my computer and asking me every question under the sun. It was really funny because they are talking about the blue one and the orange one but some of the 7 and 8 year olds knew their names. I only had about 20 kids in the room but the energy and excitement over something I have loved so much for 20 years was so great I have seen them go through phases of cartoons and movies but something about the TMNT just has them extra excited |

You could *try* to set up a field trip to the movies as a fun trip, but I know, they usually want trips to be educational. Busing is not cheap either. I have done movie field trips, I drove a group from a local school last year to see Happy Feet and they invited me in with them!!And the other issue with TMNT, the violence factor, you'd hafta get it approved then permission slips.

Before I left my student teaching placement, my anticipatory hook was the following question: If you were a reptile, what would it be? Some of my 8th graders said a Ninja Turtle. They are excited about the movie.

Thats whats so great about the turtles, its really for every one. It has that basic family and buddy system to it that any one can get into and feel apart of. I'm really excited for this movie and how many new fans it will bring in.

Oho Tinuvielsdreams, now we know who to blame when all the kids start getting injured by makeshift ninja moves and weapons!! Beware the soccer mom backlash!

Tell them it's educational. Tell them it teaches kids the proper way to throw a punch!

You could use the excuse "It's educational. It shows them comming together as a family, and could possibly teach them just how important families are.".....'course if they say yes, you burst into laughing outside the door, they ask 'what was that?'..'oh nothing, hairball'
Thats kool your students reacted that way.

I thought I'd be safe going on opening day in the morning thinking "Hey...the kids will be at school. I won't have to deal with screaming 6 - 8 year olds..." But nope...Here it's a 3 day weekend for the kids!! They gave em Friday off!

haha I love all those replies!!!!!!
I did have a lot of little kids launching themselves at mom or dad the minute they came for pick up yelling "Are we going to see Ninja Turtles on Friday! Miss L. is going!" I should push this heavy family theme for those few concerned parents but mostly yeah the kids just want to run around and be ninjas |
