TMNT at the box office

The all new super-charged computer-animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Warner Bros) is off to an explosive start at the box office with a staggering $9.7 million on opening day, and as much as an estimated $34.5 million for its opening 3-day weekend. TMNT will coast to an easy weekend win battling past 5 other new films entering the marketplace, along with the third weekend for 300 (Warner Bros). My studio sources are telling me that the Ninja Turtles had a huge matinee turnout, then Under 25’s kept theatres packed for evening shows.

Definatly a sequel. There is so much they can do with this style. I wanna see more of the grungy city. Something with a slower pace might be nice too.

I really want this on dvd. And I hope they don't give it some cheap dvd cover art.
I think they should use the official movie poster if anything.

Hell yeah! I want it on DVD as well. I'm planning to import it and watch it before the movie hits the screens here.

When it's planned for release, BTW?

Wow. This is exilirating to see the Turtles out on number one, thus far. I was worried that The Hills Have Eyes would be number one, because the theater I went to, had the Turtles in a tiny theater, while I saw THHE playing in the monster sized theater.

It's great to see our beloved boys in green still got it.

The only really posistive I can see from the short running time is it gives the movie a chance to have more screenings.

At my theater Turtles had at least 2 more show times then any of the other films, even 300.

Looks like at least a $30 million opening. Most likey, it'll take a 50% drop the weekend after. Putting it at at least $45 million. If I'm not mistaken, would put it just over the budget for the film. I'm sure the numbers worldwide will be good as well. Plus, the positive word of mouth from the viewing public. (Not the critics. Screw the critics.) I really think a sequel is going to happen. *knock on wood*

Not all the professional critics have been negative, although nearly all of them are hesitant to praise, because of the pop culture history of TMNT.

The Washington Post review gave it 3 stars and made it a top pick.

A drop of 50% ? I dunno.. I wouldn't be surprised to see tmnt have a $50-55 million box office next week. After that, things are gonna slow down alot, but I do think that It will have 2 strong weeks at the BO.

It's not hard to see why this movie is done well.

Two decades worth of people have become fans of the turtles, old series and new. While a lot of the newer generation visits because "hey I watch that Saturday mornings!!!"... I (we) old-school fans visit in hopes to see the movie we never got.

Combined with the fact the movie was actually good, (I'll admit - to my surprise), factors in the replay value big time.

This is good to hear, Kevin you better hurry up with Gatchaman and go back to work on the sequal to TMNT with a PG-13 rating or a movie that's 2 hours our both... but other than that GREAT JOB!
