New Dreamwave TPBs

I got these two new books in the mail today. They're a bit pricey, but worth it if you weren't able to pick up the books when they were being published. If you do have all of the Dreamwave books, volume 2 is of interest because it features story notes and art from the unpublished issue #8, and story notes for issues #9 & #10 (also unpublished). There isn't as many pencils from #8 as I had hoped there would be (only 5 pages, not the entire book), but it's still nice to see these. The pages aren't finished, but there is a script that goes with each one.

These books are available for purchase on Amazon:
Volume 1
Volume 2

I, personally, ordered from Mile High Comics.

I may have to pick up that volume 2 then, since i have all the individual issues for the entire series.

I'm a little confused Rose. How could you already have these when Amazon says they won't even be out until June 5?

I have the old TBP of the first volume. I may pick up the second one though isince it has that cool extra stuff. Who's publishing these anyway? I know IDW has been reprinted some of Dreamwave's Transformer stuff, but who's doing these TMNT reprints?

Edit:

Oh, it's Titan whose doing these. Interesting. The were also reprinting the Transformers Marvel UK stuff. So these should be nice editions too.

I don't know why Amazon is listing June as the release date; they were released this week through Diamond.

Some UK publisher I've never heard of before is putting these out: Titan something or other.

Thanks for clearing that up, Rose. Guess I'll have to be on the lookout for them then.

Haven't heard of Titan?

They've been doing quite a bit of past-ComicBooks-in-Trade-form for a while now. Including some of the previously UK-exclusive Transformers stories.

Is the Dreamwave series any good? I assume it is completely related to the 2k3 series of turtles. Any highlights? Thanks.

The art was okay, but totally bland, story-wise. I'm really not much of a fan of Peter David -- he doesn't seem to get TMNT. This was a very half-hearted effort on his part.

Plus, his writing style just annoys me. I don't get why people think his writing is the ****. Cos it ain't. Just read his novelizations for Spider-Man. He gives Flash Thompson Bugs Bunny lines. Since when do modern teenage jocks ever say, even as a joke: "What a maroon! What a tah-rah-rah-goondeeay!"

Plus, he and J. Michael Straczynski are sort of writer buddies... These guys may know how to spin plots, but they have no grasp of their characters.

Though I'd just pick up the Dreamwave comics for the art, which isn't half bad. LeSean Thomas is an animator/designer for "The Boondocks" animated series.

Soon there will be a string of gas stations, inexpensive motels, restaurants that serve rapidly prepared food! Tire salons, automobile dealerships and wonderful, wonderful billboards reaching as far as the eye can see! My God... It'll be beautiful.

I own all 7 individual issues and I have to say its one of the worst TMNT comics ever published. Its cancellation was a blessing.

At first glance it may appear that LeSean draws some fancy turtles, but they only really look good thanks to Dreamwaves crazy computer inking and photoshopping. His pencils are subpar at best, really. His humans are even worse, ugly and overly cartoonish.

The writing is pretty bad. It starts out as a rehash of episodes from the cartoon only from different perspectives. Despite that it still feels like you're paying money to read something you've already watched on TV. By the very end it starts to delve into original content, all of it boring. No Shredder or villains of any kind, just the TMNT taking in an urban street kid for training. By the end of the series, LeSean had decided to make every supporting character in the book black, his intentions very blatant and transparent (if you know LeSean's other work, you know he does this frequently).

I wouldn't recommend spending a dime on the books. I certainly regret that I paid money for them.

I'll pick these up for the nice coloring and inking if they carry them at boreders in the graphic novel section...kinda doubt it though. Anyone ever seen tmnt books at boreders? besides the movie stuff?

The comic was bad. I wasted my cash trying to buy it. If it wasn't for the artwork no one would like it.

Mile High comics are a rip off. I stopped buying from them.

If DW books are being released as TPBs then that means their DMC comic might get published into one as well and the unreleased 4th comic might make it in there.
