Tales of the TMNT Question

I am curious as to how the tales of the TMNT fit into the normal Mirage Volume I storylines. Do they coincide with them since they were both published in the late 80's or is this a different "universe"?

The same question also goes for the new Tales of the TMNT Volume II. Does it fit in with Volume 4?
