Shades of Grey

How difficult could it have been for Nobody to go vigilante? In the New Toon he seemed like a pretty dedicated cop. Even having been booted from field duty, I doubt he made the decision to put on the mask lightly. Even though it's for a good cause he's still breaking the law.

Come on people, I'm actually serious with this one. Me. Serious. Think about it.

I guess he's above police corruption, so he still actually wants to fight crime. Except for his own, vigilante crime.

Sorry to not reply very well, but I don't know much about Nobody.

characters like Nobody sort of bother me a little. Not that I don't think dark and brooding vigilante types aren't cool or anything. But there just seems to be a little something arrogant about people who appoint them selves judge, jury, and executioner who go after villans with the goal to punish villan and evil doers. Sure that is sort of the appeal of vigilante characters because there is always that threat that their judment may be influenced by personal vengence and they go to far hence why the whole "gray" area comes into play. But often times I find these types of characters so over done that they become cheap copies of each other and become cliche and all their depth and agnst loses its impact.

I can't say much about being a policeman, but I don't think it would be much different than being in the military in the sense that in the latter situation sooner or later you can find yourself facing the choice between the bureaucracy of the job and the values associated with it.

Or, to put it another way, it might depend on whether his dedication was more toward the letter of the law or towards the spirit in which it was written.

If his dedication was more toward the letter of the law, I think he would simply see it as a job and nothing more. If his dedication was more toward the spirit in which it was written, I think being a cop would be much more of a lifestyle choice which he could easily be drawn further into to the point of becoming a vigilante.

Nobody is a homage to Batman and Daredevil. Maybe a bit of Punisher in there to. But yeah, that's kind of my point. He took an oath to uphold the law and he breaks it every time he picks up the cape. In the show he had a reason; he'd lost his career for a desk job and the bad guy got away. In the comics...I'm not sure but I think he was moonlighting. As for the spirit of the job, yeah, that makes sense, especially since a large part of how fictional vigilantes help people in there ability to help people outside the red tape of the law. Still, loosing something important to you is a better justification for going against your promise to uphold it than…just doing it. Still, Mirage Nobody had a theory that the more man evolved the more he devolved. Maybe he just saw costumed vigilantism as the next phase of law enforcement. Still, he tried to bring Casey in using his badge to make it official. That's sort of "Who the hell do you think you are?"
