What do the stores do with the toys that don't sell?

This is something I've always thought about. Sure, the stores will discount the toys that don't sell to try and get rid of them, or perhaps ship them off to other warehouses and sell them to places like Kay Bee, but what if they still can't sell the toys?

Are toys that don't sell in the stores shipped back to Playmates? Or do the stores just take a loss on the toys and have them destroyed/thrown away?

I'm pretty sure they get sent back.

Well I don't know how toys work but at my store every 2 months we do something called "pull" where we get rid of DVDs that we have to many of and aren't selling.

Toys don't get sent back to the companies. They'll be clearanced deeply and then some could end up going to charity (when I worked at TRU I think we gave some of our stuff to Toys for Tots, but that kind of thing is up to the individual store; it's not an industry standard). Stuff like action figures usually won't stick around long enough for that, though.

I don't know how DVDs work, but this sounds similar to how it is with bookstores where you get a pull list and ship stuff back to the publisher.

Yeah exactly how we do it.

With TVs that are in the store over 90 days we're supposed to send them back but instead we give insane deals on them.

Oh, just thought of something...

I do think that sometimes stuff will get shipping back to the distribution centers and if there's enough of it it'll get sold the discount outlets, dollar stores, etc.

It wasn't my intention to ignore what you wrote, but simply to add more thoughts/details to it.
