The definitive OT season

Now this isn't necessarilly you're favorite season, but just the one that you think defines the turltes, not just for your self, but for everyone.

I was thinking on leaving a few of these out (season 1, because of lenght. 2, just because. 4, worst season ever. Red Sky, because it definantly dosen't define the OT) But I don't want any one getting mad.

I say season 3. The technodrome seemed so at home at the earth's core lol. Overall a good season with a few seriously s***ty episodes. I had some good fights, and it also had some "turn on a sewer pipe and shredder will run away" fights. This is also probably the best season to take place during the height of the turtle craze, which is the main reason why I picked it.

Most of the episodes I saw as a kid were from S3 so I remember those more fondly. I've heard great stuff about the later seasons though but for the mentioned reasons so far I've enjoyed S3 the best.

I've never seen a season 6 episode, but yea 7 is great and Red Sky is really good too. Btw, why didn't ya vote spd?

I say Season 1. It defined what the old toon was supposed to be before they toned it down because of paranoid mothers and European Ninja/Nunchaku standards.

EDIT: Also, because that season showed the Turtles as how my friends and I defined them. When we got done fighting over who got to be which Turtle we'd always pretend we were in combat with the Foot Clan... not throwing food at Shredder and pulling rugs out from underneath Rocksteady and Bebop.

But that wasn't what the OT was, it's what it was supposed to be.

I choose season one too; great animations, a bit darker and still funny.

Oops, i thought you ment definitive, as in best...confuses the shell out of me. Then i'd revote for a more goofy season...like 3-7. ^^

I went with season 7 even though I hate the vaction episodes that are listed on ninjaturtles.com I loved the episodes they had on cbs in this season.
I also really like season 6 and 8 as well all great seasons in my book.

First three are the definitive seasons, because then they were'nt rehashing ideas or trying desperate gimmicks with marginal and inconsistent success, they were establishing the tone of the show, the characters, and the comedy. Season seven, as mentioned, restored such goals to the show with balls and determination, yet retaining the same quality of humour

The original is definitive BECAUSE it toned down.

For me Red Sky defined the turtles. It was what I wanted to a T, a more mature turtles with the same tone as the older seasons.

The season that I can see being the one most people would remember alot of episodes from would be season 3. it was the longest and in the middle of the shows popularity.

After watching some Red Sky eps, I see little to no difference as compared to the later CBS episodes. Sure the plot seemed a bit more serious, but the turtles were still calling out jokes (very lame-ass jokes, the writers musta ran out of catchy comebacks by then), and they were still fighting silly cartoony monsters, aliens and robots and whatnot. I mean the main difference between Red Sky and the CBS eps was the art style and that most of the supporting cast/guest stars were booted save Casey and Rat King, one ep each, and that now the main villian was Dregg.


Definite season, still the first one. That's what they were meant to be, and I guess Red Sky tried to get back to that.

Definite season, still the first one. That's what they were meant to be, and I guess Red Sky tried to get back to that.

The jokes were lame because the actors weren't allowed to improv them like they could on the earlier seasons.

Oh well it has one of the best shredder lines friggin ever in it though.
"I never Bluff" that scene burned into my mind as I was 16 at the time.

Season 7 post-European Nightmare, episodes like "The Legend of Koji" and "Night of the Rogues" showed that the TMNT could straddle the line between action adventure and comedy.

Exactly. Exactly. The beginning of the series really made it pop. Not to say that later seasons weren't good... but the first three were the best written. Though Three had a lot of just horrible alien stuff that subtracted from it. But Usagi made up for it.

Now, what I love most about the first season was that it proved it can be wacky and just slyly serious when it has to be. While toned down from the original comics (I will always say the comics are the best of the Turtles Canon), it wasn't all just Pizza fights and stuff like that, no thanks to children's broadcasting standards. Not saying they had to chop off heads or anything, but actually using the weopons would be nice.

I love the animation from Toei in the first season. I really did. I always really loved the Japanese animated for American Audiences style... Especially TMS's job for Inspector Gadget and Ducktales, and a Studio I don't know the name of's work with ALF Tales (which has some of the oddly placed most beautiful TV limited animation I've ever seen).

Some of the other animation in the series is overtly full and cartoonish (Cowabunga Shred Head is half animated in this style) or really really wonky and required random close ups of stuff to fill time (unless due to some video source problems, they had to do that for the DVD releases)
