TMNT Supermutants: Would they fit in with the new show/toys?

I was looking at the 1994 section of the ninjaturtles.com Toy website section, & came across the TMNT Supermutants figures. The turtles look a little weird, not very much like turtles, Splinter looks younger & more buff & Shredder basically looks more dangerous then usual.

What really got my attention & made me think, were the Supermutant Rocksteady & Supermutant Bebop figures (which are shown below):

Supermutant Bebop

Supermutant Rocksteady

Now, these figures appear to be taller then the original TMNT figures that came out, so would they fit in with the new figures without looking too out of place? They have already been "re-vamped" so to speak, & they look alot more
"bad-ass" & alot less "bumbling idiots"-to quote Shredder in a way.

Does anyone even have any of these figures? I'm trying to find out what type of articulation they were given, or even how tall they were/are but haven't gotten any results yet. It's very frustrating.

So, by all means, post what you guys think (or what you know about the figures).

Personally, I think they could fit in with the new line of figures, but I'm not 100% sure as I:
A) Haven't seen them up-close yet
B) Have no clue how articulated they are
&
C) Have no clue how tall they are- if they are taller then the new Shredder figure, then that'll work out nicely.

They aren't going to be in this new show...period.

This new show is based more off the Mirage Comics, and it has NOTHING to do with the old cartoon. I believe many of the forum veterans here are tired of all this.

WE NEED THAT FAQ SECTION NOW!!!!!

Bebop and Rocksteady were nice the first time, but I'm ready for something new (new to me, at least, cos I haven't read too many of the comics).

Yes, I am aware. I think you missed the true intent of this topic dude.

Once again, I am aware of this. You are as grumpy as your avatar dude, take a chill pill or something.

WHOA.....easy there buddy. Don't go blowin' a blood vessel or anything. This topic was NOT created to have people want to put Rocksteady & Bebop back in the show. This topic was intended to talk about the Rocksteady & Bebop Supermutant action figures made by Playmates in 1994 & if the two FIGURES would fit with the new toys or not.

If it came out differently, I applogise for that. I saw the new show & frankly don't mind Bebop & Rocksteady not being in it. I remember the worlds two dumbest mutants from the old show & they would not fit into the new show at all. Hence the reason why I was asking if the Supermutant action figures would mesh well with the new toys.

If I put the new Shredder figure & 4 new Turtle figures, next to Supermutant Bebop & Supermutant Rocksteady, could they pass with the line?

I don't know why you are so full of rage all the time Rez. In almost every (not all of them mind you) post I've read with you in it, your being angry about something or other. I really did not create this topic to piss you off dude, if it has done that, then I applogise as that wasn't it's intent.

I just wanted to know if the Supermutant figures were taller, or as articulated as the new TMNT figures! Thats all! If no one knows, then please say so already. I've gotten like 3 replies to this topic & none of them even remotely answered my questions- you all just skewed off topic or got mad at me or something.

From the looks of them they would fit in pretty well. No idea bout their articulation though, but that can always be fixed as far as i know.

I don't want them back in the show, but I agree with you... new Rocksteady and Bebop figures would kick ass.

Thank you! Someone finally gives me a straight answer.

And I agree with you 100% about not wanting them back in the show. They don't fit with the cartoon universe anymore.

New figures would kick ass, but since that seems very unlikely to happen, I'm gonna try to get Supermutant Bebop & Supermutant Rocksteady & just set them up with my new TMNT figures. Maybe they can be bounty hunters, or mercneraries or something. The supermutant of Rocksteady looks very military-looking so I could see him bein' like an ex-marine or something that somehow got messed up. Bebop just looks like a punk who was mutated into a boar.
Actually, since people really don't get mutated into animals in this new show & toyline's universe, I'll have to make them either mutant animals mutated into their present form, or do something else. Actually..if superheroes exist in this universe & they somehow got super powers that same thing could be used with the Rocksteady & Bebop figures.

Disclaimer for people: Just to make sure I'm not confusing anyone (as what I'm saying is a little screwy), I'm talking about the toys, not bringing Bebop & Rocksteady back to the show. Just talkin' about the 2 Supermutant figures playing with the new TMNT figures.

I think they have a decent enough design and detail to match the new figures. I'm looking forward to the future toyline, and can't wait to see what other characters they make... I'm hoping there will be more interesting female characters!

Hi all! I've been lurking around these boards for a few months now, but only joined today as a direct result of this topic. I'll try and explain. I too thought that the Super Mutant Rocksteady and Bebop figures would look great next to the new line, and when I saw the thread asking about them I thought it was really cool that someone else agreed. Then I go and read the first two replies. They don't address the topic at all, and beat a horse that should have been dead long ago. I've got a pretty good handle on several board members just from reading their responses to various threads and the two aforementioned members are notorious for their closemindedness. Message Boards are all about opinions, and sometimes opinions clash. The new toon kicked ass, the old one has a special place in many TMNT fans hearts, (after all how many of us were first exposed to the TMNT via the original toon and or toys?) so why can't people like both? Or, call me crazy, prefer the old one to the new one? The point is, don't jump down someone's throat because they like two characters that no longer exist in current continuity. Get off your soap boxes and try to be civil. You're gonna have a lot of new members in the coming weeks, make them feel welcome.

I don't consider that crazy since I prefer the old cartoon.

Snailman: AHEM! I am not being grumpy, in fact quite the opposite.

Besides, there was no indication that you already had that knowledge. You wasted your time with that uber-long post. You're worse than I used to be when I was new (can anbody vouch for me?).

I agree, and after hearing the information I found out it seems more likely that they would. All the Supermutant figures are 6 inches tall & have 11 points of articulation! Thats alot for a turtles figure. The have normal rotating joints for the shoulders, wrists, hip & neck. Their knees & elbows have bending joints. And since they're 6 inches tall, that makes them bigger then the turtles, so they'd be able to smack'em around a little bit.

I too am looking forward to the future toyline, I would have picked up the newest issue of Tomart's Action Figure Digest yesterday, but Planet Comics did not get it in yet (the newest issues has prototype pictures of the April, Casey Jones & Hun figures, as well as other new TMNT information). As far as making more female characters, that'd be pretty cool- provided they give them better hands. The new April figure can barely hold her accesories in her hand & I heard the Mona Lisa figure is the same way.

Todd4LOM: Thanks for those kind words Todd4LOM! All I was trying to do was ask about the figures, not bringing the characters back into the mix. Maybe I should be more specific when I speak from now on, to better avoid confusion & such. I'm also glad to see someone else thought of putting the Supermutants next to the other new figures. By the way, are you on the he-man.org message boards? I could have sworn I've seen a Todd4LOM on their once or twice.

Krang: Hey Krang! Sorry if I caused any trouble or anything, it really wasn't my intention. The old cartoon brings back alot of memories, but now that I'm older I really can't watch it without laughing at myself. Same goes for other old cartoons like He-Man & such. I can't even watch the old he-man shows anymore- I keep wondering "Wow, I actually watched this as a kid?". Guess tastes change over time, kinda like food. You won't like something as a kid, but when you get older you might find a taste for it.

Those figures wouldn't fit all that well in the new line, but I could see how they could pull it off (but they wont).

Those characters were in a TMNT cartoon and anime to be exact. Yes TMNT had a anime, but it was only an OVA. It was animated by Toei and Fred Wolf Pictures (or whatever it's called now). In the show the turtles, shredder, beebop and rocksteady could all transform in two ways. The way you see in those pictures and another way which consist of armor that takes it's power from animal spirits. Both sets of toys came out in the US, but the anime never made it over (I wish it did, it's pretty neat... I guess 4Kids could bring it over sometime). Does that clear things up for you?

No Problem, Snailman! Yes I'm on the He-Man.org board as well, I only started posting there around Thanksgiving, when I found Trap Jaw and Tri-Klops.

::nods:: Maybe a new coat of paint would help? No clue why they made Rocksteady camoflage colored though.

The turtles had an ANIME? Wow, thats gotta be an interesting show then. Whats an "OVA", exactly?

Wow, well that does explain why they look so anime-ish: they are from an anime! And yes, that does clear some things up, thanks Ninja Tiptup.
Hey, waitaminute..."Tiptup"...is that the turtle from the Diddy Kong Racing video game?

Ah, I thought so. I post there quasi-frequently, I'd do it more but every so often the topics I subscribe too just stop getting posts so I forget to go back & check things out. I'm probably gonna be there more often as Toy Fair is coming up, but I've been hanging around her alot lately. I go by Co-Lec-Tor on the he-man.org boards btw.

Nah they're too skinny and tall compared to the new figs. I would think rocksteady would be just a little bit bigger than shredder muscles wise...
take care

Snailman an OVA is the equivalancy of an American direct to video release. They are often in movie form, but sometimes they are episodes (I think). You caught that eh? It's Tiptup from DKR indeed. Good eye. I wish that little turtle had his own game. That would be wicked awsome, but oh well.

::nods:: I'll have to buy the figures (whenever I see them that is) & put them alongside my new 2003 TMNT figures, see how they measure up. About them being too tall, I think that having them big would work out a-ok. Like, the turtles are 5ft tall & the toys are about 5 inches tall. Shredder is like 6 ft tall & his toy is about 6 inches tall. So if these Supermutant figures are as big (or maybe a bit bigger even) as Shredder, then they'd be to scale as a 6 ft tall person right?

::shrugs:: This whole discussion would work alot faster if someone had the new figures, these two Supermutant figures & a digital camera/scanner. Then we could just see 'em next to each other & be like: "OH, okay, they do look cool/crappy next to each other.".

OH, okay. Does OVA stand for something then, or is it just a name?

Heh, thanks. I knew it sounded familiar. I played alot of Rare games on N64 & SNES. Really sucks that they left nintendo AFTER I got a Nintendo Game Cube.

And yeah, Tiptup with his own game would be interesting. Hey, there's always a chance on the Xbox, since thats the system Rare is currently belong to.

If they make a Conker's BFD 2 for Xbox, & it's like twice as good as an Xbox, I WILL buy an Xbox just for that game. Or just buy the game & play it on my friend's Xbox. ::shrugs:: Which ever comes first.

::looks at pictures again:: hmmm...Rocksteady looks kinda big, bigger then Bebop that is. But yeah, I can see your point a little bit. They might be very thick though, I'd really need to see them in person to be sure still. I would much rather have Rocksteady look how he did when they made the Warriors of the Forgotten Sewer version of him. THAT Rocksteady looked more like a rhino who became man-like, then a man who became rhino-like & thats pretty cool to me.

Basiclly, the new line could have a few other mutant animals in it, not as many as the last line, but a decent amount that shows "yes they are rare, but there are at least a couple hundred of them all over the place".
