People use the F word too much
Okay, it's time for me to begin a sort of 'rant.' People use the f word way too much. It doesn't make you look 'cool' or 'macho', it actually makes you look stupid.
Last night I was going to watch the Spike TV Video Game Awards, then decided to turn it off when it became apparant that the entire show was going to be nothing but crude jokes and the use of the f word. Why did they have to say the 'World ****ing premire'? What's wrong with just 'world premire'? This has just gotten out of hand completely. You know what I think? I think that a lot of people use the f word because they really don't know what else to say. I guess it's kind of like how some people say 'umm' when talking, they just replace 'umm' with '****.' A lot of people in the world need to grow up, get some class, and manners. A lot of us here at the technodrome are guilty of this. And let us not forget, it is in the rules here at the technodrome to not use profanity. |

That's f*cking why we have the f*cking asterisk to use in order to censor ourselves. I mean, f*ck. What the f*ck is wrong with f*cking using the word f*ck?
If we're going down that road, maybe we should single out certain people. Like...thugs. I live in Philadelphia, and I'm not gonna lie or sugarcoat anything, when I take the subway every morning, I feel like I'm taking a good ten years back in terms of intelligence. Although, it's not like they're really doing anything wrong. It's in their culture. It's the same as the F word. It's a part of our popular culture. Especially here in the US. I definitely overuse the word, but only within my circle of friends. I tend to be more polite when speaking with others. My point is it's not something you can say "I'm better than you for not using slang and bad words," because really, how much was that high horse of yours? Everyone is the same, just different cultures and points of view. I may sound like a hypocrite, because as many people know around here I definitely do not have that view on everyone. I'm simply being objective to the topic at hand. |

It's just a word. There's a time and place for everything, but there is nothing wrong with it.

If people didn't say 'f*ck' as often as they do, it would be a much stronger and more meaningful word and would offend you much more. So in a way, these people are doing the world a favour. Pioneers, I say.

But, that doesn't give you an excuse to get up on a pedistal and try and act like you're more civilized than everyone else because you don't say a specific word. That's just obnoxious and rude, frankly, and I dunno who you're trying to impress with alla this, but it just kinda makes you look like a douchebag to the rest of us. It's just a word. Just 4 letters pronounced in succession as a verb to describe copulating. Perhaps it is you who needs to grow up so you can realize that there's a fine line between standing up for what you believe in and just being a prick about it.

Well.... I have come to the conclusion that many people 'enjoy' using the f word and they don't plan to stop.
I myself have used the word in the past (although not very often), but I have decided to take a step back and think about it. So I'm not going to say that word anymore. I know that it is 'just a word' but it's.... ah forget it. |

It's perfectly fine if you don't wanna use it. It's even fine to respecftully ask someone in your presence if they'd refrain from using it. Nobody's gonna look down on you for that. Just don't be preachy about it.

Just playing with you. Myself, I'm more perturbed by the use of the word, "like." I'm also starting to get tired of "dude." I use the word "like" as it's supposed to be used, not in the way your average bleach-blond ditz does. I also use "dude" but it's very rare and more like a way of saying "pal" or "friend." I'm just sick of people who use "dude" like it's a replacement for their friends' names. Whatever happened to "man," "buddy," and "dill-weed"?

You see, I have a problem here. I have no problem with people using it. The word is made to shock. Once the shock is gone, there's nothing to it. it's just a useless word. That's why I applaud people trying to defuse the f-bomb until it is no more. However, I am not pleased with how they do it. Youtube videos of Elmo saying the F word with a bad impersonation dubbed in that doesn't match his mouth movements. Crude. not even funny. And then we have those 20 year old college guys that sound like they're totally out of class and say f every other f-ing word when the f-ing slurr out their f-ing speach that sounds f-ing like they're drunk, without even drinking an f-ing vodka. They totally ruined the F word for me. The key to using it as shock humor is to use it when no ones expecting it, and just using it once. For example, I got more laughs out of Peter Griffin saying, "You know what America? F you!" than Chris's future wife saying it every other word in the Uncensored language track to the Stewie Griffin movie. John Cleese said something about it somewhere in my Monty Python book. I forget exactly what. In other words... you know how if you pick out a word at random, and you say it enough times, it loses all its meaning, and becomes just a string of vowel and consinant sounds? That's the F word now. To me, it's an expression of extreme anger. Like: F!!! I fell down the stairs. or F!!! I was supposed to leave the report on Mr. Johnston's desk. I'm going to lose my F Job!!! or F!!! My life is a meaningless farce, and there's no F hope of it ever getting better!!! Something like that. I only use it when I get extremely angry.

I'm not going to be a dick about this because I know how sensitive you are, and to some extent you do have a point, but it's just a meaningless word, not the bane of f*cking society. Lighten up.

I didn't name any names in my first post. As for how 'sensitive' I am, I'm pretty hardcore I will have you know. I watched Kill Bill Vol. 1. |

First of all, I will say that on this forum I'm probably the number 1 advocate of the word f*ck. Second, I will say you ARE sensitive. I don't mean, and I'm sure Mecha didn't mean, in terms of what you can handle. I mean in terms of what you'll put up with. You ask if games use a lot of curse words, and you ask if it's possible to turn off gore; you make a thread about hating Robot Chicken because they made fun of Jesus; you get upset when people swear. These are things that just fly right over the heads of most people these days, but they get to you. I call that sensitive.
Next, you're ignorant for saying people are classless, stupid etc. etc. because they swear. I curse and swear up a f*cking storm, but I'm none of those things. Crude at times? Sure, whatever. Don't give a sh*t what people think; but when you start insulting peoples intelligence, that's when you cross the line. I considered you a friend, but this is blatantly insulting, and if there's one thing I hate more than stupid people, it's a higher-than-thou attitude and the balls to try and shove that sh*t down the throats of other people. |

I really don't mind the word...I'm just sick of it being so over used. You should go to my school for the day. People can't go for one sentence without throwing in a "f*ck" in their daily speech sooner or later. They think they are cool or something if they use it on a daily basis...but really, it's just annoying now. For me and my family, we usually use it in extreme bouts of anger or very dangerous situations on the roads. My dad uses it whenever a car almost hits us. Not for humor or anything, but because of how we could have died.
