Raph said, "It's shell-kicking time!" twice in this episode before going into fight.

Is this pretty much the predecessor to "It's Ninja Time!" in FF?

guh! I missed the first few minutes of this episode because I was in the bathroom (I hate being sick ) so I came in when the turtles and the acolytes where already fighting those stone monsters. I liked this little squirmish every one was having with the stone monsters. I really liked that Raphael and Donatello where able to tap into the their strength chi and where able to win that tribunal chicks approval. And I smiled when Raphael was watching Joy's back I really felt bad for Leo during the fight, you can see that he is getting more and more frustrated with himself. Mikey made me laugh (big shocker ) when he asked if he at least got points for staying conscience LOL

And I liked the little banter between Raphael and that big dude acolyte that is cool with Donatello. I liked how Raphael was like "hey you made it, now that female tribunal chick might ask you out" and the big dud was like "...sweet" LMAO. So far this acolyte is the only one who has been given any kinbd of glimce to his personality and I'm liking the easy way he relates to Donatello, I enjoyed that conversation between him and Don during the race.

The whole, "it's circle time" where the acolytes and the turtles try to tap into their spirit avatars was pretty cool, I liked the focus Leo finnally got in this scene. You could see he was really frustrated and angry at himself for failing, and finnally just went showed the tribunal that he had a Dragon avatar. It's like he redeemed himself in his own eyes in this scene and he felt more confident after wards. So much so that he was the only one able to summon it and destroy all the rat demons in the grove, and even had the female Tribunal member thank him and bow to him. Which I think was pretty powerful since the ancient one described her as being the most harsh of the tribunal members.

My DVR was full so it didn't record this. Was there a new Mikey-song today? I'll watch my R4 DVD later to refresh my memory and add to this discussion.

It was ok. I tapped on my cassette tape but I fergot to check it and some the film there in the little wheel. It pulled it out and it snapped. I put clear tape on and the cassette was good as new again.

Maybe, but still every turtle helped fight them and defeat them, and I think she wasn't just thanking only him.

Now I get the comment in "Membership Drive" where Don says "Adam would have loved to see this", in reguards to the Turtle Taxi. That almost slipped by me, actually.

But Adam crushing on the female member of the Tribunal? Now that was a laugh. Especially the timing. A giant rock floats by his head, crushes, and Adam replies "She's Dreamy." Don't wanna know what kinda stuff he's into, though... eep!

Anyway, great tension building episode. Not too much revealed, other than the revelation of why the Tribunal treats Leo like an athlete's illegitimate son. And I loved Splinter's vision. Those things really sold the episode for me.

but this episode was pretty much Leonardo's victory in my eyes since finnally he was able to trully advance and not have the tribunal treat him like crap. Out of all the turtles he has shown the most disapointment in himself during the tribunal's training, and he had to watch his brothers get weapons and excel in tests that he was not (in his eyes) doing so well at it. Then finnally during the tribunal's circle time when they where all trying to call upon their spiritual avatars and the acolytes where able to do it, Leo finnally came through and showed that he had what was considered by the tribunal as the most powerful avatar the dragon, and he was the first one of his brothers to be able to do it. I think that went along way with Leo because I think he is used to being able to do things things first before his brothers so this restored some of his confidence. Not that he thinks he is better than them but since he is the dedicated to ninjitsu I suppose he feels that he should have been able to do things at least at the same time as the his brothers. And he did by being able to the first to call on his avatar and it being a dragon. Also the tribunal pretty much revealed the reason they where so much harsher on him than every one else was because he has potenticial to be great. I think Leo made the most advancment in this episode and he deserves it since he was so disapointed in himself.

Maybe so, but up until this ep, the Tribunal, despite handing out weapons or giving out tests, gave the impression that none of the acolytes had earned their respect yet, it wasn't 'til each turtle passed a test in this ep that changed that, they weren't there in Demons & Dragons, they didn't see their performance in battle last time. Leonardo did "call" on his avatar first, but the actual "transformation" doesn't happen 'til later, sorta like how in the beginning when Donatello called his chi first but didn't have it fully manifested...the "peak" of any of the turtles' chi still hasn't happened yet, and it happens at the same time. And it still remains that it was still a group effort that won the battle at the end, that's why I listed this as an All Team ep in my list.

I guess what I ment to point out was that Leo finnally got his own respect back, since it was clear that he was so frustrated in his own pregression...or in his mind lack of. I just think he really came through for himself by being able to call upon his dragon avatar before any of his brothers did.

I finnally was able to catch the first few minutes of this episode that I missed on saturday where that lady tribunal member was starting her lesson. Man Mikey's predictament made me laugh that boy just doesn't know how to keep his mouth shut. He managed to piss off that tribunal lady and get picked to be demestrated on. And he knew he was in trouble when he got called on and that he was going to get his butt kicked, I think his first strike was only a half hearted one because he was nervous. But after the first time he got nocked down I think he got eighther angry or embarrassed because he looked more determined right before he went to kick her and she floored him. Even if the tribunal chick is a ninjitsu master he must have not have wanted to get tossed around by a girl, every laughed at him LOL! Even Don was being a little taking shots at him, with his "ooh, I think you have her against the ropes now Mikey" ha ha.

Chikara was WAY too harsh on those who did not get their Chi up on the first try.

As a former teacher, I can assure you that is NOT the way to go. She needs to motivate them, tell them that they need to work harder next time, and possibly work with them one on one or small group while the others practice their newly learned skills.

I love ability grouping (as long as it is flexible and reasonable). I have been at the top of my class. I also have had trouble learning some things (work or class) and I know how frustrating it is when the teacher/boss points it out. Makes you feel like a total incompetent moron.

Glad everyone was able to get their chi up eventually. They just needed more practice- not even extra help.

I totally agree with Sage Ninja's points. Leo wants to do well in ninjitsu, and when he doesn't, he beats himself up. Chikara was harsh on him, and he felt that he wasn't good enough because of it. However, the Ancient One helped him and Mikey by giving them both a pep talk, which was a good thing to do. After Leo got his avatar, his confidence built back up. I think I liked this episode a lot because I know how Leo feels. When I kept failing my math tests, I lost confidence in myself and felt that I wasn't good enough. But when I do well in math, I regain my confidence and feel that I'll be okay. That's why I felt that this episode was good. I just said to myself, "I know how you feel, Leo."

Now that confidence of mine will be tested today once I get my first test back.
