Talking New footage from 1990 movie?!?

DISCLAIMER:
Spoiler:
I would have liked to have checked out my claim with a copy of the US movie, but seeing as I didn't have one available to me and haven't seen it in a while, I may be mistaken on the "new" claim. That said, I think this is still a neat find since it is the UK cut.

Last week, the TMNTmoviesite Channel went up on YouTube, featuring special clips from the UK release of of the original TMNT movies.

Most of the clips added so far have been stuff that seems identical to the US releases, but some unexpected things caught my eye in a clip showing the battle scene in April's apartment from the first movie.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pP18cBFaTY

First, the music seems a little lighter and less dramatic than in the US version, and (of course) no nunchucks are on screen. Also, things that struck me as different:

At the 00:49 mark, April notices that she can take out some foot soldiers by pulling a rug out from under them, which in turn causes her to be thrown back against the wall and received a compliment from Mikey ("you're a natural, sis!").

At 1:11, a footsoldier gets VERY angry at Mikey's "Wheel of Fortune" technique just before calling for the ninja axes.

From 1:40-1:50, after the foot reinforcements jump in, it seems like everyone hesitates a little bit longer than normal before the floor collapses.

So, can anyone confirm that these really are scenes not used in the US release?

Well I can't confirm it right now (dont feel like starting a movie at this hour) but I certainly don't remember april pulling the rug or the extended pause after the foot jump through the roof... Looks like I'll be watching the movie tomorrow

Whoa, I wonder why that was cut out of the US release, and why we didn't get anything about it on the DVD, unless we did and I never found it.

You know, I actually think the US version flows a little better than this. The ten-second delay on the floor collapse kinda kills the momentum of the fight, IMO. Also seems like the US music and lighting were more intense than the UK version, which would probably contribute to that sense of better pacing as well.

The foot soldier temper tantrum is more pathetic than funny. The US version seems to cut quicker, so all you see is him calling for the axes. I thought that was pretty hardcore, while the UK extended cut just makes him look like a baby.

I do like the April scene, however, as it establishes she's not the kind of person to sit around passively if she can do something to help. However, the US version does have the sewer battle at the end where she drops a pipe on somebody's head, so maybe they just thought making her a hero twice would be a little derivative?

Ohhhhhhh I noticed lots of new bits...these are not on my DVD. NICE FIND.
I do like how April did more in the fight AND showing her hovering over her hero Raph protecting him. I wish they did a scene or two with her and Raph, establishing a special relationship between them, she's like a mother to him in the comics; it would have been neat to see this in TMNT1.
Thanks!

:claps: Oh goodie! Easter Eggs!

Oh yeah, some major differences. I see them... you're right about the pacing-- it just doesn't flow as well.

Kick by Leo @ 0:14 didn't happen in the US version (which is a shame-- it was a damn good kick). Instead, he fights to ninjas while caught under the door frame.

There is so much more, but it's too early for me to comb through the movie to find anything else. Besides, you covered most of it.

This is interesting.

Few weeks ago I managed to find the UK release in here Finland. Apparently the one I've taped on VHS from Finnish TV channel when I was a kid is the same version as this one on US DVD release?

It would be interesting to sit down and watch the both versions. If I only had television and video equipment. My computer doesn't play tapes.

This is a great find! They should have added that floor creaking part in the US version along w/ April pulling the rug.

Clearly it was just a bunch of time cuts, only used in the UK version to cover up the missing Nunchuck sequences. Quite a lot of movie cuts are basically longer pauses, longer delays, and quite unremarkable footage like that. Not quite the amazing deleted sequences you'd expect.

I think I'd rather not have those few extra seconds of footage and still see mike with the 'chucks.

It seems very choppy to me. I like the extra footage, but I like the nunchuck stuff better. I like how Mikey starts the Wheel of Fortune by himself. I think after everyone jumped in from the roof, it just seemed like a long pause because you were seeing everyone's reaction, which I kinda liked, just not how long it took to show. The rug thing was a good bit too.

It's great seeing these new scenes, but it definitely doesn't flow together as well as the US version of the fight. If these were to show up on a "Special Edition" DVD in the US as extras, however, I'd totally be up for it.

I've always wanted to see the differences in the UK version. Thanks! It's a bummer they didn't get the "a fellow chucker, eh?" seen

Interestingly, it seems the nunchuck scene was used in this promotional trailer for the UK film (maybe it's from the rerelease?):

By the way, did Leo's "spin-o-rama" at 1:16 make it into the US cut?

I liked seeing the deleted scenes, but the fact that they were only covers for nunchucks is kind of a bummer, though it does explain the sloppy editing.

As for the Leo move in that last clip, I remember it in the US release.

EDIT: Look at the related clips once the video stops, watch "You Guys Eat Pizza?" it has more cuts that replace nunchucks, and again it's just an extra line and a slight pause.

wonderful job finding this footage , talk about a 1 day early birthday present since tomorrow is my 21st birthday, lol. I love it how Donnie covers his face and then uncovers it and the additional Leo scenes.

it's pretty cool seeing some new footage but honestly I think the US release version of the fight at april's is better than the deleted stuff.
haha probably why it was deleted

This is nice to see but I'm glad the other version was used. Leo seemed more quick and badass in this, did anyone else notice that?
