Toonzone reviews TMNT Season 6 DVD (Bad Review)
Toonzone reviewed Season 6 of the original TMNT DVD:
http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=23246 If you don't feel like reading it, the reviewer basically said the show was crap and that it isn't worth buying. I disagree with everything the reviewer said and not just because I'm a TMNT fan, but because I truthfully enjoyed all these episodes when I watched them on the DVD last week. What are your thoughts on this review? |

I think this person forgot that Ninja Turtles wasn't a serious cartoon.

Someone should gift the reviewer Season 1. Season 1's flaws, in my opinion, only lie in the "wrong mask color/wrong voice coming out" in certain scenes... and I almost don't wanna consider it an error when all the Turtles had red masks during that one part in the first fight against Bebop and Rocksteady.

The fact that the article was negative doesn't bother me, since I know the OT has its flaws and certainly isn't perfect. However, I find the whiny, self-important tone of the article to be very obnoxious. It's a shame that ToonZone didn't get a real reviewer to write an intelligent article about this DVD instead of publishing a worthless, ignorant rant by some newbie. |

Just skimmed over it and ended up closing the window before I could fully read it. The guy didn't know what he was talking about, and was pretty harsh for a simple DVD review.
I think he has personal issues about how his mother would never buy him TMNT stuff as a child after seeing one episode, telling him it's the spawn of Satan and how it will turn him into a devil child. And so he suffered, watching his friends play with their Turtle things, knowing full and well that he would never be able to buy any for himself. So he then hatched a plan...to badmouth TMNT as much as possible to the point where they will have to be canceled! It was brilliant! No one could stop him! All he had to do was wait until he was a balding man still living in his mother's basement to write up a review and send it away. Who's the mad one now? HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!... ...but yeah, considering how he feels all big and mighty ripping on a show made back in the 80's, I doubt he has much of a life.

Well, I'm not happy with this release, but the general opinion makes it seem not worth my time to read this ignorant whining. I wouldn't be able to stomach it anyway.

But here's what I have to say about it. A review on a message/news board are only more respectful than one posted on an Angry snot who hates his childhood blog. You know, the ones where theguy has a full vocabulary of every swear word known to man, but a vocabulary of like 5 other words. So I frankly find it rediculous that people take stock in crap like this. Honestly. I'm not even bothering to read it.

Whats with all the complaints of it being LOUD and how can a theme song be TINY? He complains it's not loud enough, then complains how loud it is. He says kids didn't like Slimer? He said TMNT was a group of Orkos?
Epic Fail. |

Some people take cartoons way too seriously.
I'm not sure how good the show was at that point, but the earlier seasons were great. Yeah, a lot of it was based off of silly b-movie plots, but what's wrong with that? I wish another cartoon or sci-fi program would come along and be willing to not take itself so seriously and rehash old sci-fi movie plots. |

It sounds like the reviewer failed to realize that the show was supposed to be silly, but whatever. This is why I never bother to read "professional" reviews. |

psh, I know this is one of my favorite seasons I don't need some internet dork to tell me what to like.
And I would hope that others have enough brains to think for themselves. Last edited by VaughnMichael; 04-23-2008 at 11:55 AM. |

While I like my Turtles serious and he does have some points when it comes to flaws of the old show... jeez, it wasn't that bad. You kinda can't look at it as an adult; it was made for kids and it's best enjoyed in that context. There are some things you just forgive... like in Swat Kats where no matter how the villain is defeated, he's always going to come back no worse for the wear. And all those impossible missles. X)
The '80s turtles (and any cartoon, to some degree) are like that too. You enjoy the fourth wall breakage, enjoy the surfer silliness (though I don't really recall Leonardo buying hard into the "cowabunga" thing; the turtles were distinct, if not as much as in other media) Sounds like this was a "had a bad day" review to me. Though I do concur that (for me) I enjoyed this show much more as a kid, there still is stuff to enjoy. |

I found it humorous that he bashed the theme song.
How can you give a dvd set a bad review and use that as a source? The theme was the same throughout the entire series until the red sky eps. His opinions on the VAs was a bit shady as well. It seems as though it was a review of the series as a whole (which he clearly does not like) rather than just the season 6 release

Wow, I could hardly get the first few paragraphs. (Heck, I stopped after he called the series "abysmal". I agree that the show has it's flaws and sometimes makes me roll my eyes, but there are enough well placed jokes to keep me interested.
Season 6 has one thing that makes me as an aspiring VA happy, there are no episodes where an alternate is used. You hear James Avery as Shredder, Pat Fraley as Krang, Barry Gordon as Donatello, and of course Rob Paulsen as Raphael, and no lousy, "I'm glad he has like 3 lines" replacement. TMNT had some of the greatest VA's ever in it. I'm kind of glad after reading some of the comments here that I didn't get as far as that in the article. I can handle people who were disapointed in TMNT in retrospect, but those people are very talented and are some of my all time idols. EDIT: I finished it, and ohhhh boy! How could he complain about Krang? I'm sure he's one of those guys who thinks he knows better than a practicing VA how to do something. Reminds me of a guy who couldn't do the Goofy yell (Yahhhhhwhowhowhowhee!) and yet told me mine sucked.

Just so you know, that goofy yell was used on Tenchi Muyo! before 2K3. It was the title screen audio for the OVA series.

He posted this in the discussion sec:
Yes, I did wonder whether this was a case of a late season being reprehensibly bad after the show had seen better days. The last dozen or so eps of Thundercats for example are TERRIBLE. I should have mentioned that in the review to be honest, but -- frankly -- the quality of the those 16 episodes is so bad that I can't imagine the first 5 seasons being that much better. It's something that has dated very badly that, I found, has no redeeming features at all. It ruined my own fond memories of it. |
