Grudge Match

I haven't seen this episode since it first aired in 2005 and I only saw it once so my memory is a little fuzzy. So I'm a little unsure on a few fine details.

I remember something happened between Mikey and his family and they got mad at him and Splinter refused to help him. What was it that Mikey did that pissed every one off? And was it ever shown that Mikey appologised or that Splinter forgave him and relented to help him out?

What happened to Klah after the fight? I know he got his butt handed to him, but I don't remember what his punishment was for cheating in the fight? Wasn't he executed or imprisoned?

Mikey kept blowing off training and shoving his Battle Nexus win in everyones face. That's why everyone was pissed at him.

As for Kluh Mikey got to decide and the decision was to let him live.

wow, you know what? I don't think I've ever seen this episode. What you just described sounds interesting, though. I've always wanted to see Mikey get taken to task for his cocky behavior by his family. Sometimes he gets away with to much.

No no no. Spitfire got it right. Mike had Kluh down and since the nexus rules had been changed, mike could have killed him. The Daimyo told Mike to choose Kluh's fate and the fate of Ammag and his warriors. Mike did the honorable thing by letting Kluh live.

but was there any showing of forgivness on Splinter or his brothers part for mikey tooting his own horn? I can't remember if Splinter forgave him and lended him a hand during his rematch at all?

Can some one give me a run down of what led up to the the blow out between Mikey and his family and then the rematch?

so that was it? He was allowed to live and go home? I don't know why I keep thinking he was exiled to another planet.

I liked the battle between Kluh and Mikey, one of the more intense fights of the 2k3 series I thought. Maybe intense isn't the right word

Just in case someone wants to watch the eppy I put spoiler around this....

Spoiler:

Kluh coming to earth to challenge Mikey was just a coincidence of everything else that was happening.
Splinter and his bros caught Mikey watching Cartoons from someone's fire escape while they were all training and of course he brought up being the battle nexus champion to get out of it. Then suddenly here comes Kluh and his dad and a few extra whatever they were...
Splinter totally let Mikey sweat it out though, that was also kinda funny.
Leo stepped up and told Mikey he would train him, he also took him to this great view of the whole Battle nexus and talked to him when he was nervous right before the fight. It was actually kinda a funny talk at one point, watch it when you get a chance.

to be honest, not really. Pretty much after Splinter verbally pwned Mikey he holds to his guns and doesn't lend Mikey a hand (can you blame him). And no Mikey never is shown saying he's sorry for mouthing off. But then because Mikey acting like a humble warrior by spareing Kluh who tried to murder him, I think both sides figured he learned his lesson and words wheren't needed. Although:

Spoiler:
Mikey shows his gratitude to Leo being the only one who had his back, and thanks him. They share a sweet brotherly moment.

You're mixing up two characters! Che'rell aka Shredder was the one exiled to another planet, not Kluh. We don't know what happens to Kluh and his father after Mikey spared their lives. Maybe they where thrown in prison or maybe they where flogged. But I doubt they where allowed to just go home. Although I wonder if letting Kluh live won't come back later on down the road and bite Mikey in the ass. Kluh and his race seem to hold grudges.

I just watched this on youtuibe. Good episode. Does any one think that Mikey should have killed Kluh? To be honest I would have been very suprised if he did, even if he was in the right to do so. It just seems un-Mikey of him.

Good point! I never thought of that, I wonder if Kluh will show up again and try to give Mikey more trouble than he can handle and make him regret sparing his life. I mean he might take it personaly that Mikey didn't kill him and making him live with the shame of losing to him twice. If he was insulted by Mikey accidently nocking him out, imagine how he he;ll because Mikey humilated on purpose by nocking him over with his finger like he was nothing.

This episode is chalk full of Mikey acting like his imature moron self, that's all that really needs to be known. Well besides the fact that he won the match by luck just like he did against Raph in the battle Nexus.

The only part I disagree with is his winning by luck-- he was lucky in the first match. This time he used his skill, fueled by love of his family.

To an extent, I agree. I think the writers really wrote them selves into a hole in this episode by making Mikey act the way he did. They made Mikey such a jerk about his whole battle nexus win that the writers didn't seem to know how to dig them selves out of it, and pull the audiance in Mikey's favor, except by making Kluh and his father the bad guy. If Kluh had wanted nothing more than an honest to goodness rematch between himself and Mikey just because he wanted a fair shot at being champion, would any of the audiance root for Mikey due to his past behavior? Or would we be hoping he loses? It's like the writers wanted to make sure the audiance wouldn't abandon Mikey like his family did and root for him to win if his opponent was clearly more unworthy of wining than he was. Oh, lets make the opponent under handed so the audience will want Mikey to win and forget that he's been a jerk all this time. They took the easy way out. Any one see where I'm coming from?

Yeah, I do. But I still think it's a good episode to see Leo and Mike interacting. At least Leo decided to stay and help Mike out, right?

I can see what you're saying about Kluh. I popped in my Big Brawl dvd and watched that little arc last night, and that Kluh guy didn't seem like he was all that bad of a guy.

A little brutal but not dishonorable. He even was apart of the warriors (if I remember right) that trexamus gathered up to help him with the revolt of the confederation, which was somthing of a noble cause.

Then his character does a total 180 and now suddenly not only does he want to kill Mikey but he wants to kill his whole family and a innocent boy just for winning the championship.

I also really liked the interaction between Leo and Mikey in this episode. It was nice that Leo was the only one in his family that didn't act petty and shallow with Mikey. I loved seeing some one act respectful toward Mikey, even though he didn't really deserve it, it was nice seeing some one taking him seriously instead of giving him grief. Leo acted with alot of maturity and understanding toward his brother.

I think this episode proves Leo is the most grounded and wise of the whole family, even over Splinter, who should have been more adult about the whole thing instead of turning into a petty, taunting 10 year old. I think Mikey's victory is more Leo's than his, because with out Leo's support Mikey couldn't have done it. With out Leo backing him up I don't think Mikey could have ever won.

Well, in a way they all contributed which is why they were all decorated at the end.

in what way did Raph, Don or Splinter contribute? They where all hoping that Mikey would get his butt kicked. I mean, yeah, when they it was obvious that Kluh's clan where trying to kill him they where upset, but until foul play was apparent they where hoping to see Mikey get beaten down (well at least Don and Raph where). Leo was the only one who was on his side and giving him his support. That's why I think Leo is the ultimate victor in all this. Mikey is the type that needs back up, if he was acting on his own he would not have won.

Well I was referring to everything that happened beforehand, Donatello helped save Leonardo and the Daimiyo at the previous match, Raphael saved Splinter and then everyone outside when the rift opened by getting the staff to Splinter, Leonardo helped save the Damiyo after waking up, and Michaelangelo, well even if he had support he still had to fight and earn it himself, and he did...plus he grabbed and saved Kluh with his chuck when the rift opened in the first match. So really if it wasn't for ALL their efforts, they and the Daimiyo wouldn't even be alive to celebrate the end of this match. So really, it's everyone's victory.
