1990 or 2007?

This is a poll for the rivalry between the original TMNT to the 2007 CGI movie.

Anywho, I prefer the original 1990 TMNT. While the 2007 one was relevant to how the franchise is currently being treated, I'm a big fan of comic adaptions. While I didn't see it as a comic adaption as a kid (I just saw it as a damn good movie), it feels like that the first TMNT movie was as close to Kevin and Pete's on-screeen "baby" as we're going to get. It was a blending of universes that was very delicate in making the comic fans happy as well as the kids who watched the OT at the time.

And, like I said, its a damn good movie. Its probably nostalgic bias that partially plays a role in my decision, but the initial TMNT/Foot conflict of the 1990 movie has yet to be surpassed in my eyes and it probably won't be surpassed for a very long time. The idea of a DTV adaption of Vol. 1 #1 would've given the 1990 movie a run for its money, but as it never happened there's still no real competition for the original.

I love both films dearly, but I'm gonna have to go with the 1990 film as well. I honestly liked it better.

The 1990 film was a great adaptation of the comics, whereas the 2007 film seemed to be more of an adaptation of the new toon.

I will say, dispite the fact I did like the first film much better, I think that TMNT 07 was the best TMNT movie since the first one. The second was good, but it became like the TV show, and the third one was alright, but lacked good anamatronics and puppetry.

In 1990, fans were blown away... sky high! ... at that action-packed flick known as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

We are flung into an alternate New York, which seems normal enough initially, but we soon discover right under the surface (literally), there are mutants that have taken it upon themselves to fight the forces of badness: in this case a clan of Juvenile Delinquent Wannabe-Ninjas infesting the Big Apple.

Never thought you could do anything but balk and chuckle at the idea of four actors in turtle costumes, with a penchant for kicking ass? If you are a human with an actual soul: Think again. Whackiness is but an after-thought here... we as the viewer encounter the results of children raised on the streets. While the Foot Clan are twisted, they are also all sympathetic criminals. They have been ruthlessly brainwashed by a Japanese tyrant whose blood has ran cold, his mindset totalitarian, bitter, and derranged. If those attributes aren't enough to cause concern, keep in mind that this main villain, Oroku Saki aka The Shredder, makes no attempt at a facade. He makes it perfectly clear, via his razor-sharp armor, that he's there to do dirty business, and hasn't a single reservation about it.

Only the Turtles are an adequate (questionably so) force to resist this criminal uprising. Being mutants, they are forced to isolate themselves from mainstream society, working in only the deepest of shadows. Rather fitting, given their occupation for ninjitsu (second only to the fine art of devouring pizza).

While two characters (Splinter and Shredder) are well defined as pure light or dark, every other character, even the four Turtles, are cast in varying shades of moral gray. It's this brutally honest realism aspect that might disturb younger viewers. What's going on in everyone's heads? Why is Raphael so given to bouts of rage? Are the Turtles truly the ninja heroes they strive to be? Finding the answers to these questions is a journey of animalistic violence that scarcely falls short of blood sport. It's through this we come to respect each individual Turtle and their distinguishable, 3-Dimensional personalities.

If a Turtle movie of this calibur comes along in the future, I'll be pleasantly surprised. How could it get any better than this for a fan?

In this, you fall in love with the ambitious April O'Neil, admire the quasi-madman Casey Jones, fear and despise The Shredder, and be reminded of your wise grandfather in Master Splinter.

Which reminds me... "Forgiveness is divine, but never pay full price for a late pizza!"

I thought the 1990 movie was horrid, it almost turned me off to the franchise. I hate animatronics, and the turtles moved so clunkily. I'm glad the era of animatronics and live action are over. *shudder*

Uhm, Captain Futureman, you seemed to have forgotten about giving really harsh critique to Donatello's characterization. Also, you didn't follow up with how you think TMNT '07 was so much better in your eyes.

I voted for the first movie because T-U-R-T-L-E Power ROCKS and for nostalgic reasons. But TMNT was very good for the most part too.

Seriously, I don't see why CGI is so much better than animatronics when it comes to a live action movie... most of the time everything seems painted in last moment. Look at the last 3 Star Wars films, and Alvin and the Chipmunks. I liked Chipmunks, but half the time you could tell Jason Lee was talking to an empty counter top.

Now TMNT 3 had TERRIBLE animatronics... and the Splinter Puppet looked like... well, any girls have old Barbie Dolls they played with constantly, and the hair got all greasy and fuzzy and looked like it could pull all off with one clean pull? he looked like a stuffed dog covered with the stuff...

The 1990 TMNT is the BEST out of all the TMNT movies that have been made so far. I also liked part three, but those puppets were fugly.

There was enough of a realism that you don't really notice the absurdity of the whole thing. If they were to do the same thing with a CGI movie, it could be just as good. I don't think TMNT 07 wasn't as well recieved for its animation style, it's just that the plot (and almost everything about it, really) seemed hastily pushed together and flimsy. The universe portrayed in TMNT 1990-you feel like you could almost buy real estate in it, whereas in the 2007 movie...well, not so much.

The first movie was pioneering in technology, naturally not up to today's standards. You can't compare it to now. Back then they were clunky, unreliable things...I think the leaps & bounds they made were huge.

There may be a live action / cgi...

CGI isn't always the best way to go with live. Not to me it is. With an actor in a technologically advanced costume, it would work. There's something missing when live and CGI characters are mixed...not in every movie, but many times there are.
Gads...that Jarjar is a good example.

I really like last year's movie, but the first movie wins without a contest. Especially when it comes to rewatch value. My whole group of friends was tired of TMNT's prologue halfway through opening weekend.
